Fuck social music, you're getting ska punk and power metal or you're getting silence. My speaker, my rules.

JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 17 pts · 71d (4 replies)

I vote for silent disco. Everyone listens to whatever they want in their own ears. If you want to talk to someone, take off your headphones.

X@piefed.world · 10 pts · 71d (3 replies)

I’m in. I’ll be over in the corner dancing with the corner.

zedgeist@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 71d (2 replies)

After a while of the corner not dancing with you, doesn't it get awkward? Or does the peyote help with that?

X@piefed.world · 5 pts · 71d

Well, if it ever happens, I’ll try to remember to let you know!

Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it · 2 pts · 71d

If the corner doesn't dance with ya, then skill issue

I love that “bedroom project” is effectively its own genre, with subgenres from “bedroom pop” to “one-man bedroom atmoblack”.

lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network · 2 pts · 49d (1 reply)

There are some absolute bedroom pop bangers on Bandcamp, too! The only pop I will accept, even!

Come on, post some recommendations!

brown567@sh.itjust.works · 20 pts · 71d (4 replies)

Nah, they getting my "Music for getting turned into a bug" playlist

Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 71d (3 replies)

You don't drop a title like that without some elaboration.

brown567@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 71d (1 reply)

It used to be called "Real bug hours", featured a lot of Cosmo Sheldrake.

I got the idea when I first listened to Come Along and had a vivid image of a marching band of beetles pop into my head (very impressive as I have nearly complete aphantasia).

The playlist was either supposed to be good to listen to if you ever turn into a bug, or it was supposed to turn you into a bug, I was never quite sure which

It unfortunately was on my Spotify account which I have since deleted. Maybe I'll rebuild it XD

Edit: the song that inspired it was actually Wriggle, but Come Along was also a pretty early addition to the list

brsrklf@jlai.lu · 3 pts · 71d

Alternate playlist title : "One morning, upon waking from agitated dreams, I find myself, in bed, transformed into a monstrous vermin".

StumblingWasabi@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 71d

Time to put on the smoothest of jazz that accompanies 90s pornos

Unless it's a porno party that's just like macaroni without the cheese though.

sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 14 pts · 71d (4 replies)

Fela Kuti - Zombie.

I propose this as anti-coworker-music; for maybe 70+% of them, they'll be amazed or impressed if they've never heard it before

Its obviously old school, but its also obviously incredible, is energetic, has a solid driving rhythm and melody, and at least parts of the lyrics are simple enough you can sing along or they may get stuck in your head.

But its not offensively noisey/distortiony or sappy or whiney.

Then you also tell people the backstory behind the song and album, if they ask about it, which is basically equally incredible.

9point6@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 71d (1 reply)

Okay this is fantastic, thanks

sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 71d

No problem!

Now, spread the gospel of Fela, and let there be funky afrobeat jazz, ahhahahah!

schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 71d (1 reply)

I've always worked with people that have literal seizures if they haven't already heard a song at least seventeen thousand times before. This might cause severe cerebral hemorraging.

You're going to listen to nightcore and symphonic metal and like it.

All fun and games until they realise that Wars of Armageddon has a 10 minute run time.

That said, no one has complained about PJ Harvey yet.

Caesium@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 71d (1 reply)

some of my favorite songs are 10+ minutes. Though post-rock does tend to get pretty lengthy.

people are gonna sit through my long songs and they're gonna like them

Semjeza@fedinsfw.app · 1 pts · 70d

No shade on long songs, but when a good 3 to 5 mins are quite dissonant and with bizzare snippets of lyrics it tends to get called out by people who haven't listened to Maggot Brain all the way through before.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 2 pts · 71d

Second is something by whoever the current biggest pop star is.
