My coffee maker isnโ€™t listed, this is bullshit.

danc4498@lemmy.world · 37 pts · 75d

I first played it on my fridge

mp3@lemmy.ca · 22 pts · 75d (1 reply)

Adobe Acrobat is also missing.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 75d

Also pdf.

tempest@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 75d

I was just about to say I don't see my 2003 iriver mp3 player....

Airfried@piefed.social · 2 pts · 75d

What do you mean? Linux is right there.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 70 pts · 75d (4 replies)

Doom in Doom, lol. And there's also Minecraft in Minecraft. And Doom runs in Minecraft. Is there a Doom in Doom that runs in Minecraft in Minecraft?

OpenStars@piefed.social · 25 pts · 75d

Be the change that you want to see in the world... :-P

SomethingBurger@jlai.lu · 5 pts · 74d

DOOM (1993) is entirely playable in DOOM (2016).

gandalf_der_12te@feddit.org · 4 pts · 75d (1 reply)

the performance exponentially decreases with the depth of nesting

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 74d

Also, the Minecraft in Minecraft i've seen was a mini-version running on a redstone computer.

Came here for this. Doom on a pregnancy test is by far the most impressive!

boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 24 pts · 75d (1 reply)

Well mostly the others used whatever chip is on the device, that one only used the display sadly

ApertureUA@lemmy.today · 14 pts · 75d

It actually used nothing except the case. Source: PCmag

OpenStars@piefed.social · 6 pts · 75d

B-b-but what does that mean someone is pregnant with!?!? ๐Ÿ‘น๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Forgot to list 7 million crabs

JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca · 14 pts · 75d (1 reply)

16 billion crabs, for an frame rate measured in hours or days lol.

Turning a shooter into a strategy game

HerrHelmus@lemmy.world · 34 pts · 75d (1 reply)

Wait, it runs on Nextcloud? I need to look into that...

Of course it does.

blinfabian@feddit.nl · 17 pts · 75d

the reason i made the meme was bc i was scrolling through nextcloud apps to add and i found that fucking doom exists

waigl@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 75d (2 replies)

They forgot Rockbox. I still have an old Sansa Clip with Rockbox on it that plays Doom with no problems.

Ephera@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 75d

Yeah, I have also played it on there. Just to give others an idea, we're talking an MP3 player from 2007, that looks like this:

Here's an article showing the successor model running Doom: https://hackaday.com/2016/12/30/sansa-mp3-player-runs-doom-unplayably/

zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 75d

I played Doom on my 30GB Ipod with Rockbox on it. It was stupid hard to control with the wheel, but it did in fact run.

Bamboodpanda@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 75d

They even mentioned E.coli!

Modern Vintage Gamer just made a really interesting video about this

chiliedogg@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 75d

I literally watched that right before opening Lemmy.

Baader-Meinhof hitting hard today.

TheOakTree@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 74d

MVG's video and ray-casting Neo Geo demo is part of that article. Lol

zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 15 pts · 75d

My favorite port of Doom was the wacky PSDoom where it spawned enemies that were your processes and you could renice or kill the processes by hurting or killing them.

Fives@discuss.online · 12 pts · 75d (3 replies)

Doom is gonna become its own OS.

bl4ckp1xx13@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 75d

Surely someone has made bootable DOOM right?

gera@feddit.nu · 6 pts · 75d
Meron35@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 75d

Doom is Turing complete FYI, so if it wasn't for the inherent limitations on the number of gates due to small map size Doom would be able to run Doom

But can DOOM run it? - https://calabi-yau.space/blog/doom.html

Lumidaub@feddit.org · 12 pts · 75d (3 replies)

I don't see brain cells.

Thorry@feddit.org · 4 pts · 75d

Shout out to the Thought Emporium which are also working on getting brain cells to play Doom:

TheBrideWoreCrimson@sopuli.xyz · 11 pts · 75d (2 replies)

Wikipedia says it also ran/ runs on Atari Jaguar, Risc PC and whatever a "Tapwave Zodiac" is.

Frenchgeek@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 75d

Also DNS https://github.com/resumex/doom-over-dns . But not Neo-Geo.

JcbAzPx@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 75d

Tapwave Zodiac was a gaming focused PDA. Kind of the Steam Deck of its time, except almost no one bought it. I watched most of the old Doctor Who on one.

Fun fact, Stargate Atlantis used them as sci-fi scanner props.

buddascrayon@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 75d

I don't see Receipt Printer in there.

notptr@lemmy.cyberia9.org · 11 pts · 75d

Not neogeo

fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk · 10 pts · 75d

kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 8 pts · 75d (2 replies)
kevincox@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 75d (1 reply)

It's not really though. They just used the screen from the pregnancy test and replaced all of the other hardware.

kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 75d

The e. coli was also just a display, we're counting it

Zeddex@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 75d

kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 75d

Some grad students made an e coli based display and ran doom on it https://www.popsci.com/science/doom-e-coli-cells/

eodur@piefed.social · 4 pts · 75d

I didn't realize there was a Doom package for NextCloud. I'm not even sure why I was surprised.

Not yet.

umbraroze@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 75d

I don't think Philips makes televisions or other consumer electronics any more, so I assume it's been ported on smart light bulbs or medical equipment.

gedaliyah@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 75d (1 reply)

Wait, I knew about the potato, buy I didn't know you can play doom on doom itself! How does that work?

ApertureUA@lemmy.today · 8 pts · 75d

Some version(s?) of Doom have an in-game arcade cabinet with Doom IIRC

echodot@feddit.uk · 2 pts · 75d

Doom on a toaster would have a terrible frame rate.

ace_garp@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 75d
