It just fueled the debate more. I don't see a lack of stripes, I see an oversized stripe.

iocase@lemmy.zip · 86 pts · 26d (2 replies)

Is the zebra black with white stripes, or gold with blue stripes?

luciferofastora@feddit.org · 7 pts · 24d (1 reply)

Ooh, I'd forgotten that one! I gotta add that to my "ask young people about memes before their time so I can feel even older" list

Shave a zebra and you'll find out

Erusset@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 26d

The stripes ran in the wash

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 93 pts · 26d (19 replies)

Zebras have black skin. They are black with white stripes.

Gerudo@lemmy.zip · 50 pts · 26d (3 replies)

That's only big zebra propaganda

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 26d (2 replies)

Are there small zebras?

EnchiladaRaisins@lemmy.zip · 54 pts · 26d (1 reply)

Yes. Shortly after birth.

la508@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 26d

Their body is smaller but a newborn zebra foal's legs are almost as long as an adult's. This is to help them keep up and also to make it harder to spot them among the herd, as lions tend to target the young and infirm.

JackbyDev@programming.dev · 19 pts · 26d

They're black with white and black stripes.

cockmushroom@reddthat.com · 12 pts · 26d (10 replies)

Are white people stripey, too?

Enkrod@feddit.org · 47 pts · 26d (9 replies)

All humans are stripey, it's just that the lines are usually invisible.

::: spoiler NSFW :::

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 26d (6 replies)

I wanna see my stripes

Dearth@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 26d (1 reply)

I think they're visible to certain wavelengths of light?

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 26d

OK? I still wanna see them

Jax@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 25d (3 replies)

Change my to your and this has some very weird serial killer vibes

I want to see your stripes

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 25d (2 replies)

Jax@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 24d (1 reply)

Hey, I'll take authentically creepy over dishonest 'normal' behavior any day

Edit: unless you want to see my stripes

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 24d

I wanna see your stripes

White horses can have black skin too...

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 26d

You mean black horses with one big, white stripe?

Damage@feddit.it · 1 pts · 25d

That opens the door to a lot of interesting grooming possibilities

Ok but does it lack stripes, or does it have too many stripes?

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 25d

Or just a small number of really thick stripes.

Neat, a lot of the time you just see pictures of zebras with funky coats as foals and not as adults, but this one looks pretty grown.

tomiant@piefed.world · 13 pts · 26d

It was time to try something new. I respect that.

Black with white stripes or white with black stripes.

Does generational mean anything specific in this meme or does it just mean huge? When did generational stop meaning pertaining to a generation?

Jarix@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 24d (6 replies)

Meaning multiple generations of people have debated the question

m0darn@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 24d (5 replies)

So it's a multi-generational debate?

Jarix@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 24d (4 replies)

That's what is being said yes

m0darn@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 24d (3 replies)

I guess it just seems like sloppy use of language to me.

now get off my lawn

Jarix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 24d (2 replies)

Oh interesting, as something of a pedant myself, I didn't see anything wrong with it, what would be the difference in your eyes?

m0darn@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 24d (1 reply)

I've exhausted my interest in this but

IMO generational is -relevant or pertaining to a particular generation- but what was really meant in the meme is that this is something people have talked about for a long time, in fact for multiple generations, and generations are irrelevant to what's being discussed. Ancient would be a better adjective or time honoured, or age old. Zebra stripe debates aren't particular to gen alpha, gen z, millenials, or boomers.

I just think generational is a trope in and of itself and is losing its meaning through over use.

::: spoiler Title I didn't forget gen x I left them out on purpose to trigger them. :::

Jarix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 23d

Thanks for the response!

Im not triggered though lol.

I just think generational is a trope in and of itself and is losing its meaning through over use

I agree with that but only from a cultural perspective, not if someone is talking generations of a family or in regards to heredity/family

clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 24d

Generations of kids have wondered if zebras are black with white stripes or white with black stripes.
