Well yeah that's lemmy.ml for you.

Admittedly don't know any of the context and can't argue on it, but the instance's political stance is very whack (tankies).

7 days and already heard of lemmy.ml's bad reputation

Back in my day, it would take weeks, maybe even months

Poligonal Ursae are even worse, tbh

"I don't know anything about it but Lemmy.ml bad"

Is this... Really the bar?

I was more sympathising with the poster, but yeah that's about it.

I'm not gonna engage mentally with anything from .ml since from experience it really isn't worth it. Taking a wander on .ml was pretty much the most confusing thing I've ever experienced when I first tried out lemmy, I mean their ukraine community is all you need to see, really is kind of another level of closed off from reality. Either you're out of the loop or you agree with them, but .ml being based around a (relatively) singular unquestioning belief system isn't healthy.

One of the first posts you'll see on the Lemmy.ml homepage is one celebrating Tass and RT, which are both Russian media outlets known for mixed and low factuality and for spreading blatant misinformation and state-sponsored propaganda for Russia.

I'll also just say from anecdotal experience, 90% of the time I have an interaction with a lemmy.ml user, it's them doing apologia for Russia/China, or making insane claims that justify the genocide of the entire American nation (and thus its citizens) as a way of 'getting back' at America for its imperialism.

I have seen less of that from .ml than I used to... but mostly just because the craziest ones just moved to lemmygrad.

For this context, actual alternatives would be the Jacobin (socialist), Tageszeitung (general left, German, worker cooperative), Freedom (anarchist news).

They're trash over there, not worth the effort.

Honestly yes

Classic haha

FishFace@piefed.social · 13 pts · 43d

Seems more like they're denying persecution than defending it. Important difference.

Woe to the sort of ideological fragility that requires the things you support to appear completely, unassailably, virtuously perfect. That's just not how real life works, almost ever. It's not enough for tankies to critically support China over the USA in the context of opposition to American global hegemony, or merely to recognize that they're the one nation state closest to being a vanguard for communism on the world stage in this postmodern era. It seems that tankies lack the critical sensibility required to synthesize strong support for something with the occasional, inevitable failings of that something. They act as if any and all criticisms are liberal CIA gotchas, they cannot navigate the issue gracefully enough to cede "Yes China did a bad thing and I support them anyway and here's why", they cannot strive for the nation they love to improve further. And ultimately this makes them incredibly brittle in a way that undermines both communism and China. It makes a mockery of both.

Just to be clear, an actual vanguard state wouldn't have a political body made of billionaire capitalists.

Nobody is defending a thing that's not real, they're showing you evidence that it's largely bullshit.

I wanna know what do you think is the non-bullshit part
