Nobody is doing anything according to your world view presented by the media you consume. There have been massive protests, but the surveillance state backed by the biggest military in the world doesn't give a fuck what we want, and has shown it takes no issue with killing protestors. The billionaire parasites own the media and the vast majority of the means of communication, making it difficult to network and coordinate. Look at the guy facing terrorism charges for usung his duress pin code. He protested against Cop City, was placed on a watch list, and slapped with bullshit charges as soon as possible.

There have been significant protests, but they have not been exactly massive, and the demands have been pretty lame.
Several European countries have had bigger protests recently over less than what the Trump regime represents.
I acknowledge that there are good Americans too, but they are not the ones in control, and they are the minority.
USA as a country remains extremely fucked, the fact that ICE has been allowed to continue their abuse and killings for so long is insane, and only possible because the American police has formed precedence and done the same almost since the independence. USA is so used to violence and abuse of minorities, they don't even notice, and they think it's normal, because in USA it actually is normal. A tradition that is probably stillbaccepted because of long periods of slavery, and later oppressing people of color. To now oppressing those and other minorities too.
Democracy is not the mentality of the American people, oppression is.

The US is much larger than almost any European country. Also, the protests have been the largest in American history, which I think is significant considering how brow beaten the people are by media, politicians, and the education system. You act like there is a switch somewhere that will make all this better, but with the difficulty of modifying our constitution the only way that really changes is a total revolution, which does not guarantee a better government in it's place, but does guarantee pain for all but those that can afford to escape. Why don't you get that this isn't easy? Trust me, I wish change had happened sooner, and I have used my vote and my voice to advocate for change, but I'm also willing to consider nuance and be sympathetic, which appears to be beyond your grasp at this time.

No to both, Americans went home thinking they'd done their due diligence. After all the actual acute problems mostly hit minorities, and everything will hopefully be fine after the next election.

I mean im old. Back when I was in college they seemed at least more sincere but I dunno I kinda now wonder if they were always sorta a right wing disaster recovery option. Anyway if your young and at that time it was usually victimless crimes and that is appealing to younger folk and seems like they are very big on individual rights. It did/does not take long though to see how it unravels. Pretty soon you see they are essentially against public infrastructure and want to privatize everything which just does not work for many things. Private enterprise needing real competition to work. You realize to that they pretty much want no regulation and you quickly realize that yeah legalization might be great but it has to be regulated and bad impacts need to be minimized. Again this was when they were not even as goofy and it does not take long to realize it does not really work. This is why while I like the young turks from what I see of it I don't trust cenk. I just can't respect someone who in an adult educated life would take so long to realize how right wing things don't add up. Its great he has seen the light but he might have or just realized he would never be a major player given his race with the side he was initially cheering for.

I imagine the cause for the idiocy is because the NIH began funding gain of function research on bat corona viruses (Covid) at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2014... when Obama was President. And they did that while placing a halt on most US government lab research in the same direction because there had been biohazard incidents and the safety was in question.
It's a stupid game, because it's a type of research that had been going on with various diseases in various labs for many years before this, but Trump has some weird insanity relating to Obama and trying to force Fauci to say something that they could use to reveal US involvement in the origin of Covid and pin it on Obama and Democrats... eh. Not super surprised.

I'm giving my best guess at the reasons behind the current administration trying to grill Fauci at this given point in time. The NIH funding for WIV to research GoF in bat corona viruses started in a year Obama happened to be President. Trump has some irrational (likely partly racist) hatred of Obama. The Midterms are coming up, and looking very bad for Republicans.
It seems reasonable that Trump or shitsack Miller or someone else in his Inner Circle of Evil Twats is trying to use this as another potential way to stir up shit or at least try to throw more shit at Democrats, before the election. That isn't saying I think Democrats deserve any of that shit. But even Maga fuckwits are starting to lose confidence and trust in Trump, and they're very stupid, so if they could get Fauci to say slip up in front of cameras and the Senate in a way that let them start screaming "OBAMA MADE COVID!" the majority of the morons who might have been slipping off the idiot train back into reality and rational thought would likely believe it enough to vote the hard R again.

Well, of course Fauci took the Fifth. The NIH, headed by Fauci, had authorized and directly funded the Wuhan Institute of Virology to study Gain of Function research to increase the transmissibility of bat corona viruses in humans. Research into making viruses just like the Corona virus more transmissible in humans, at that lab right near where Corona first appeared. I posses enough suspension of disbelief to think elves and magic are real, but not enough to believe that's a coincidence.
The US has done it's damndest to act like it had no involvement in Corona. To either pin it on China since that's where it appeared or insist it's origins can't be known. I'm sure 40 years from now there will be a batch of documents declassified that admit the US was directly responsible for the fuck up that led to the deaths of a shitload of people... because that's what pretty much every batch of files the US declassifies after virtually everyone involved has shuffled off this mortal coil always shows.
That's not saying Fauci should be in jail. That's not saying I'm a fan of the idiot Republican response and witch hunt. It's stupid and likely a Trumpian ploy to try to blame Obama and Democrats for Covid as the NIH began funding WIV in 2014.
Fauci was simply doing his job. The US government was funding a very bad line of research, that went very wrong, then lied about it and covered it up, and moved that research to different facilities as the US government tends to do. It's something the US government and people in it should answer for, and things that should come out into the light. But this isn't any attempt to honestly do that. This is Trump's evil puppeteers trying to find a way to pin something huge and awful on Democrats before the midterms in case his other plans to rig or cancel the elections don't pan out.

Lost at the confusion here. The NIH funding and it's dates, the research that was being done, the location of the lab doing that exact research being exactly where Covid started appearing, all of that stuff is public record. Those are just simple facts.
Are you all saying that even though the US Government was paying for research to be done into making bat corona viruses more transmissible in humans at WIV, and right then during said research a bat corona virus that is surprisingly transmissible in humans appears for the first time, right beside that very same laboratory.... you all believe that's just an amazing coincidence?

I don't get it. I know Trump lies constantly, virtually every time he talks... but he didn't invent having the US government lie and cover shit up and deny any responsibility or involvement. That's been a thing for a very long time. The US government has committed loads of atrocities and then lied and covered them up.
From the Trail of Tears to Operation Wetback to overthrowing South American governments and invading the Middle East, to the CIA turning a blind eye or taking part in cocaine flooding the inner cities, to ICE gunning down innocent people in public every other day... our government has done a lot of terrible things. And they almost always lie about those things and only release the truth decades later when random batches of documents everyone stopped caring about end up declassified.
Why is the US government being connected to the Corona Virus something people see as insane? What do you think they would do if a virus they'd been funding making spread easier through humans accidentally got out in a lab leak and millions of people across the world started panicking and dying?
Own up to it? Say "Our bad on that one. We apologize to the people of the world. Stay inside, don't go near each other, close your businesses, and hopefully only a few million older folks will die because of this."
7 to potentially 35 millions people globally died from Covid. Do you genuinely believe any country would be willing to admit responsibility in that? To have endless demands for repayment for medical costs, financial losses to businesses, financial losses to other governments, lawsuits for compensation for untimely death of relatives, etc, etc?
The one country who (before Trump) saw itself as the global leader for justice and freedom and insisted had China or any large rival overtaken them the would would be plunged into evil communist hell, admitting to responsibility for something that would almost certainly have a large negative effect on their standing throughout the world and definitely do that unless they paid out trillions in compensation?

I am now more convinced that Covid is actually USA's fuck up and not China's. It was the NIH's fault, and Trump administration's, for abruptly cutting its funding. Is this why you don't want people to read what OP wrote? You are a Blue MAGA American Exceptionalist who supports and benefits the Jeffrey Epstein Class by convincing people to not read these things?
All is left is to prove the malice, and knowing Trump and Americans, I am sure they did it on purpose to "cull the poor, reduce overpopulation" or whatever Supremacist nonsense those Nazis believe in. The "conspiracy" is that the USA stopped its funding, which led to those accidents, the same way RFK Jr. and Elon Musk have caused so many health and economic problems for cutting corners the same way, in the name of profit and anti-intellectualism. That might not be solid evidence yet, but, judging by how barbaric and stupid the American government has been, it will not be surprising anymore.

I used to be so adamant about China being guilty, you can literally see my previous comments before this day where I said shit like: "How come nobody is paying more attention to the scientists in Wuhan? Even if it was a genuine accident, Covid killed from 7 to 15 million lives, almost three times the Holocaust, in just 2 years. I literally was the only dude in Lemmy who has brought up Covid like that recently, a few days before this Dr. Fauci nonsense popped up, it almost feels like they read it and are using it to distract you from the Jeffrey Epstein files and the failure of a war in Iran.

Crazy. He showed compelling evidence to prove the USA caused Covid and killed millions. You come across as a fed who probably used multiple alts to downvote their comment and basically distract people away. I am actually curious to hear a dismantle of this, but you and the other guy who have replied to him said "Laugh out. Loud. That's a lot of words to explain your batshittery." Without giving a single sentence with value in it.
