When you find out the tree song is actually critical of the maples for wanting as much light as the oaks, and then they finally have equality when they all get fucking killed by what amounts to an alien using one of their corpses.
And that's my second favorite song. First is Working Man because it sounds like Sludge at half speed.
My gf got me a ticket to see them on tour next year for my gift last Christmas. I can't imagine there'll be many other girls in their 20s going on their own but I'll enjoy it either way
There might be! Rush has huge fan base and with the addition of Anika Nilles it seems like they're still ready to make music so the fanbase won't be shrinking. Enjoy the show!
Have you heard headlong flight? It's heavy and really fun. Most of clockwork angels was really great. I'm glad they played a couple songs off it at the concert.
The squealing falsetto is just the absolute worst. I'd like to be able to like Rush, they have a lot going for them, but they are cursed with Geddy Lee's voice. I think of Rush like the scene from Basic Instinct: "This sex would be pretty awesome if I wasn't getting stabbed with this icepick"

He's pissed that they wrote a whole song about trees but almost nothing about flowers.

I had a fuckin great time at rush. I took my dad and we had a ball. He bought us T-Shirts and beer.

2112 is still a banger but it's hard to deny that for the most part, it's rock music that has been aggressively bled dry of all sexiness.
idiomaddict@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 32d
Exactly! It’s rock for when I want to do things.
yakko@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 32d
I'm not things. :)

I have it on good authority the lead singer is a male prostitute
dzsimbo@sopuli.xyz · 6 pts · 32d
I really, really know one of their songs thanks to Guitar hero. YYZ goes hard, but I don't really listen to any Rush either.
noxypaws@pawb.social · 5 pts · 32d
KINDA good?? Subdivisions is INCREDIBLE.
Maybe I'm biased cuz I love to play the bass and keyboard parts while pretending I can sing, embracing my inner Geddy a bit

"Tom Sawyer" is aight, "Closer to the Heart" is au fromage but a fun chorus and ...

every single rush album is different and a banger. Great to the end
TrickDacy@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 32d
Au fromage? To the cheese..?
eestileib@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 32d
Yes, like a moth to a flame, political Rush is pulled to cheese.

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy?
agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 32d
I can't be the only one who hates Geddy Lee's voice. Every time a Rush song comes on I am straight up grooving until he starts singing.
pipe@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 32d
I'm there with you. It's not a knock on his abilities, it's just that the tone feels so grating to me, even though tons of other people like it.
Geddy Lee: The Cilantro of Prog Rock?

Great keyboardist, great bassist, that voice is not for me. I'd love Rush if they only did instrumentals
Hazmatastic@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 31d
I used to have the same feeling about Stevie Nicks and any of her solo or Fleetwood Mac stuff. I've come around to her myself, but i get it
