But I've played video games like Civ and Crusader Kings and heroes of iron where I start reading nation/empire descriptions, start googling and reading Wikipedia, start reading on random shit like WW1 no man's land and I'm fascinated by all the craziness in history. The Ottoman Empire was fucking massive and had sultans, and it wasn't even that fucking long ago!
I was taught so much in history classes that I didn't really understand until I developed an interest in them, like the Punic wars. This stuff is fascinating and it's taught so horribly.

Ottomans called themselves Rome too, does academic nuance only extend to Europe? Why do we neglect eastern history? In this essay, I will...."
Kind of an odd trend where women are promoting the idea that women aren't supposed to know much about history and it's just a man thing. "Hey girls, isn't it kinda strange that men know things about history? It's so weird, but kinda cute I guess LOL!"
Ottomans tried calling themselves Rome at some point.
Also about two months ago, I read an old French essay from 1800s where author says something along the lines of "even the emperor of constantinople fell weak with the passage of time," and I went MAD trying to figure out if they mean the sick man of europe or the dead.
