Why would he assume it was for him? Unless he knows he has done something to warrant it.

When I see a gullotine, it doesn't make me nervous. Cause I know it's not for me.

His reaction is admission of guilt.

MajorasTerribleFate@lemmy.zip · 19 pts · 26d (1 reply)

That assumes he thinks the people are right that his actions warrant consequences. He can be aware it's about him but also think they are wrong about his actions being a problem.

matlag@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 26d

People shoulosd never come down to such threats, say the guys who totally ignore non-violent opposition.

OneWomanCreamTeam@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 26d (3 replies)

Understanding that people are mad at you isn't the same as accepting guilt, what are you talking about? Like I'm not saying he isn't guilty as sin, but I highly doubt he has that level of self awareness.

jj4211@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 26d

For example, everyone knew the gallows were for Mike pence, but that doesn't mean that Mike pence was doing the wrong thing... In that occasion....

daannii@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 26d (1 reply)

That's fair.

Surely he knows people don't want these data centers. And is fully aware that he's using underhanded unethical tactics to get it approved despite this.

But maybe I'm giving these people more credit than they deserve.

Most people with no ethics actually believe that what they do is fine and not wrong.

OneWomanCreamTeam@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 26d

Honestly, I don't think these people really think in terms of morality at all. They never even consider what they should or shouldn't do, only what they can do.

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 6 pts · 27d

And his punishment? Guillotine!

Awooooooga@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 25d (1 reply)

To be fair if you have read anything about the guillotine you may realize that it doesn't necessarily matter if it's for you. Once people start using that thing it seems to be like a bag of lays chips.

daannii@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 25d

People do usually get a bit carried away once they start executing during revolutions.

I am aware that happened for the French one.

Weird that so many Nazis were spared though. Only a fraction of them faced any consequences.

But I do recall that the after Germany was defeated , a lot of women sex workers were beaten and abused by their neighbors and called traitors when these women likely had very little say in turning down Nazi clients.

(In occupied countries)

Likewise the business owners in collaboration with Nazis should have been targeted more but instead people went after sex workers.

Beat them. Shaved their heads. Spit on them.

Easier targets.

M137@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 26d (1 reply)

This is the 4th time I've seen a post about this the past week with a top comment saying exactly the same (just with different words). It feels like being back on the latter years of reddit. And please don't misunderstand me, I don't disagree with you or the other three top comments about this at all, it's just a new experience here on lemmy that mirrors what I've seen on reddit and other places before that which weirdly worries me. It's this feeling of "this place has gotten too big or too divided to a point where the same thread happens over and over within a very short amount of time".
But I'm gonna be clear about thinking it's very possibly just my brain doing the weird shit it does and it not actually being a bad sign or the state of lemmy.

daannii@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 26d

Lemmy is very left leaning. You are likely to hear many leftist view points repeated.

Reddit used to be mostly left but due to censorship in the last 2 years it's mostly overran by bots and sock puppet accounts.

It wasn't the leftist that ruined reddit. Quite the opposite.

Carl@anarchist.nexus · 102 pts · 26d (1 reply)

If you see a guillotine and immediately assume it’s for you, maybe you should reconsider some life choices. Because the vast majority of people would see a guillotine and go “oh that’s fucking cool” instead of assuming it was there specifically for them.

luciferofastora@feddit.org · 6 pts · 25d

Because the vast majority of people would see a guillotine and go “oh that’s fucking cool”

They might also go "that's concerning". Most people aren't great fans of violence, so the implication of a violent device might worry them.

But they still wouldn't go "they're coming for me", unless they have a persecution complex and genuinely think someone's out to get them.

Most of the latter group would be wrong.

LOL! Thank you France for developing an angled blade. Although the horizontal blade may not be a bad idea for the murdering bastards.

Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 9 pts · 26d

Allegedly it was originally horizontal and the angled blade was actually Louis XVI's idea. So, good on him for making his own death less painful I guess

Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 26d (7 replies)

Sorry, bit of an amateur here. What's the difference between the angled and straight blades? Besides the angling of course. Is one more efficient than the other?

Again, my apologies for my ignorance, most of my decapitations are done with chainswords.

EDIT: Everyone, thank you so much for the explanations. That's what I love, physics lessons alongside socio-political reformation!

mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 26d

think of cutting food in your kitchen. slicing cuts better than chopping. an angled blade is similar to a slicing motion.

really it's more that the cut starts at a smaller area than all at once.

BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 26d (4 replies)

I believe that an angled blade would create a more thorough cut as it's a smaller point of contact for cutting. So it'll cut through ligaments, maybe even vertebrae. Where as a flat one it is initially a small point that gets bigger which requires more force to go through the neck further.

Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 25d (1 reply)

Locking people up is also a Nazi strategy, so are you a Nazi?

Nomad@infosec.pub · 0 pts · 25d

Well... The Nazis would have made them work gassed them. I'm against that. I am German though, so my ancestors probably were at least in part Nazis.

matlag@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 26d

They are not a racial, religious or cultural minority. They can absolutely change their "group" anytime they wish.
They are people who continuously decide to harm others for their own benefit, and at their stage, the only benefit they can imagine is hoarding more and more wealth and use it to get more and more power.

And power they have, and they use against the rest of people.

No one became fascist by dehumanizing the fascists.

village604@adultswim.fan · 59 pts · 27d (11 replies)

For most billionaire CEOs, it would be closer to killing a serial killer. Still technically a crime, but most people wouldn't be upset about it. Especially considering that their decisions often kill more people than the average serial killer.

And no one would want to do that if the billionaires weren't on a quest to destroy society and the planet for a bigger high score.

There just isn't a way to amass that much wealth without harming a lot of people in the process.

Nomad@infosec.pub · -26 pts · 27d (10 replies)

So many upvotes for Lynch mobbing somebody instead of applying you know the law and protecting the people instead of focusing on murdering somebody to feel better. I bet your mommy is real proud of you. ;)

village604@adultswim.fan · 11 pts · 26d (2 replies)

When was the last time a billionaire was actually punished in the US for flagrant disregard for the law?

That's the problem. These people are above the law.

Nomad@infosec.pub · -1 pts · 26d (1 reply)

That i can agree with. Nobody should be above the law.

0x0@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 26d

Then why did you suggest

applying you know the law and protecting the people

Lumisal@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 26d (4 replies)

This is like expecting the king to persecute themselves in medieval times.

It's not even conjecture but actually proven - multiple times, even including through a scientific journal - that the ultra wealthy are the ones writing the law in the USA. Americans wouldn't see justice through the legal system. Heck their president has violated the law multiple times and gotten virtually nothing. That's not counting all the others who have broken the law and received no or virtually no punishment, like Elon Musk.

I'm not the person you're responding to, but if I did still live in the USA, my parents would completely understand, since they're from El Salvador originally and had to leave when the government there started the civil war and called the USA for backup in murdering people who just wanted to be paid enough to eat or be worked to death in the fields like one of my uncle's.

So good for you that you've lived such a cushy pampered life that you can even think the way you do. And pray that the building anger there, or wherever you may be, never boils over because of rising injustice. Because asshats like you will be included in the fires that break out. And unlike those who've suffered, you're nothing more than a weak sapling when hard times come, and your survival then will have been by chance if you are so lucky.

So go ahead, egg those people on. They're the ones more likely to be just fine when hell breaks loose. You only encourage your own misery when you try to push them further. Even places like Russia are starting to see their dues come in, so not even being a paid troll will be safe for long. Righteous fury is slow to build but impossible to stop once it explodes.

Nomad@infosec.pub · -6 pts · 26d (3 replies)

I'm not saying there is no fury or that violence might be unavoidable. But I'm saying it should be avoided if possible and that starts with calling for justice, not murder.

Do billionaires ever get punished for crimes? Apart from Jeffrey Epstein, the billionaire who managed a chidren raping ring apparently consisting of only 3 people: himself, his partner, and Prince Andrew, and no one else, based on current investigations and due process...

Wilhoit's law:

Conservatism consists of only one proposition:
"There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does lot bind alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

rockandsock@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 26d

Law doesn't equal justice or protection for the average US citizen. If you're wealthy enough you can buy your way around the law in the US.

Nomad@infosec.pub · -11 pts · 27d (7 replies)

"Regressing to murder is good for society"... Yes let us undo a few thousand years of societal progress and return to murdering each other. Let's start with political extremists calling for rolling heads. ;)

KernelTale@programming.dev · 8 pts · 26d (2 replies)

Few thousand years.

Dear, it still happens. "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." is not even a point of discussion but a statement of a fact. Your so called thousands of years is less than a year from revolution in Nepal and around 40 years of fall of USSR in Europe; not to mention the regression is caused by oligarchs who have transformed US into a competitive authoritarianism. They must learn fear before civil war becomes the only remaining option.

Nomad@infosec.pub · -5 pts · 26d (1 reply)

I'm not saying violence might be unavoidable or might not happen. I'm saying call for justice, not for violence.

KernelTale@programming.dev · 1 pts · 26d

That would be a stupid thing to do for practical reasons.

mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 26d (3 replies)

You're completely ignoring the fact that many billionaire CEOs (particularly in health insurance) are responsible for the deaths of millions of people.

If there is someone going around genociding people, would you still refuse to do anything besides say "murder is bad"? That is the scale we're talking about here.

And no, this isn't hyperbole. Peter Thiel wants to see the majority of humanity die.

Nomad@infosec.pub · -5 pts · 26d (2 replies)

I'm not ignoring that. I'm saying they shouldn't be murdered for that. I'm saying they need to be incarcerated like any serial killer and never go free again.

0x0@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 26d (1 reply)

No, it's reminding those without an internal morality that there are consequences for decisions that harm others.

It's really no different than any religion threatening their believers with a terrible afterlife for being bad. Similar to reminding a Christian that their actions are leading them towards eternal damnation, according to their own beliefs.

These fucks don't have empathy, they're sociopaths, that's how they became a CEO, crushing everyone else on their way up the corporate ladder and not caring about it.
