I've had my G602 so long I have literally no memory of buying it. Definitely since before the 2017 discontinuing so it lasted 10 years atleast. A true hero, absolutely got my money's worth from it.
I felt a bit sad just throwing it away after so much time so I thought I'd make a post about it. Maybe someone wants it for parts, but otherwise atleast I got to share my little sadness for a good quality product that's served me very well.
It stopped staying turned on. Once batteries went in, it would turn on for a few seconds then stop working. Tried what fixes I could find online to no avail.
You can barely customize the buttons on these anymore so it was probably time.
A shame to learn there's really no modern counterpart. Ended up replacing it with a razer basilisk V3 because it was the most similar in shape I could find.

Logitech, in their infinite wisdom, coated the hand contact surfaces of their mice with this soft rubbery plastic material. That material feels nice to the touch for like a year, but it's an absolute filth magnet. Constant contact with skin oil and general human filth rapidly fucks it up and it becomes a disgusting mess in no time. Thing's very difficult to clean too because it holds onto crap for dear life and it's such a pathetically fragile material that any remotely not-gentle application of force while cleaning will permanently and visibly dent and dink and tear the surface. The result is an absolutely horrendous circus of holes and wrinkles and other assorted visual damage.
I hate, hate that material. With a passion that burns hotter than the sun. My MX master is a wonderful mouse but the state of its exterior disgusts me now, after like 6 years of ownership. I try not to look at it or think about it.

I have fixed many "soft touch" plastics that have degraded to sticky with acetone. I believe it dissolves the soft touch with the underlying abs leaving behind a hard plastic after it evaporates.

I've used ispropyl alcohol on a few such devices. I don't know if it's as effective as acetone---it did take some rubbing---but I did manage to eventually get it off, so I know that it can be used as well.
EDIT: While I've run into devices that have seen a range of this, the worst was a Grundig G6 radio. Searching, at least according to this page, it looks like the manufacturer recommends "Purple Power":

I have not myself used the stuff, so I can't personally vouch for effectiveness.
Based on this, it sounds like the solvent that uses is diethylene glycol butyl ether.

Can you say more about how you did that? I have some Logitech mice that are awful to use because of this. And they were extremely expensive. Had I known that after a year they'd turn into a sticky mess I'd have sent them back immediately (or never bought them)

It was as easy as pouring a lot on a paper towel, rub on, and let dry for a day. I tried isopropyl and the baking soda scrub but acetone worked best. I think it works best because isopropyl only cleans off the outer sticky layer and baking soda scrubs it off as an abrasive (works but very slow).
I fixed a logic mouse, a bodum coffee grinder, and the handle of a fancy umbrella.

Yep. I bought two very expensive Logitech mice and they both began to get a sticky disgusting residue on my hands and fingers all the time, which I realized was leeching off the rubber itself.
I tried scrubbing them with rubbing alcohol and it didn't help. I don't use them much anymore and have decided to boycott the brand over it. You're only like the second person I've talked to who experienced this. I think most people just don't notice a lot of details. I cannot imagine we have unique compounds in our skin oil that break these mice down or something weird like that.

The G900 series doesn't have that, or at least it didn't when I bought mine like 8-10 years ago.
I've had several MS mice, keyboards, and various electronics from many manufacturers that do that though. I hate it as well, and actively avoid buying things coated in it.
That said, sometimes you can melt it off with acetone. What you are left with depends on whatever it started as though.

Idk whatâs going on with mine, but after 10+ years that soft touch is still going great. I think itâs because my hands arenât very oily, and they donât get sweaty, so it doesnât react to anything.

I went through 3 of these within the span of maybe 4 years. the middle click failed on all three of them and I've basically written off logitech for any peripherals since.
I would love a well made mouse with the same shape/side button layout but the closest I've come is the glorious model I2.

Middle click was gone for years, yeah.
I don't like scroll-wheel clicking luckily. Has never felt natural. Just set middle click to one of the thumb buttons and never thought about it again tbh. đ

Still using mine but the left click is starting to fail permanently.
It had a phase a couple of years ago where it liked to double click but that went away again after a while.
Now its starting to seriously double and triple click and sometimes not click at all.
Might have to start investing some time looking for a replacement. o7

My performance MX micro switch fails every 1- 2 years. I bought a cheap pack of 10 microswitches and open them up to use the springs as donors. Swap the worn spring for the new one and it's back in business, no need to even solder

My G604 had a similar probelm. I even disassembled it and soldered in new microswitches, and it's already double-clicking again less than 6 months later

I don't have a Logitech Mouse, but I fixed the double-click problem for me by spraying 70% isopropanol alcohol under the mouse button

All my last Logitech mice have had the dreaded accidental double-click.
I've tried Razer for a change. I've had to send it for a second replacement as the scroll wheel inevitably failed again.
Will someone please make a decent mouse with proper buttons and a solid scroll wheel encoder? Maybe Razer and Logitech should pair up: one has great switches for their buttons, the other seems to make a scroll wheel that doesn't immediately fail. Combine both strengths to make the perfect mouse.

My Ex-Roccat (Now Turtle Beach) AIMO buttons are holding up very well after years and years of heavy daily use including clicker games and ARPGS - only thing i had to do once was to open it up (standard screwdriver) and bend the metal thingies inside of the microswitches back up a bit after about 5 years. i could have alternatively just put a bit of tape on the piece of the mousebutton that presses down on the microswitches - that plastic part that was responsible for pushing down the micro was worn down, causing unclean single click, but i can do that when it acts up again.

I cannot confirm as G903 had double click issues due to shitty switches. I think there are/were other products on their line up with these bad switches too, but I don't remember which ones now

I've kept my little logitech mouse around for a while too. I first got it in 2007, and I've been through 3 PCs, gone from Windows XP to 7 to 10 to LMDE to Fedora, and she's still going strong today

My 602 is my work mouse too. Several years ago I figured I would buy a backup, but it was already discontinued. So I looked into what seems to be Logitech's intended replacement for it, the G604.
I went to a BestBuy to get a hand on it IRL and it sucked. Everything about it felt cheap. The materials, the button response, everything. RIP.
I've had to 3D print a new batter cover for my 602, but other than that it is still holding on for now.

602 is a better size/hand feel but buttons and (infinite) scroll wheel from 604 is awesome. I honestly didn't like the 604 at first but after a month, it's only the little differences between them that I notice

I had to buy a new G600 a year ago for 100 dollars after I learned they were discontinued. I really wish there was a viable replacement out there, I've had like 4 over the last 15 years and have gotten so used to the ring finger button that I can't imagine playing games without it.

Had this bad-boy since like 2015 and its finally starting to misclick on occasion. Shame I didn't buy a backup and Anker stopped making them a while back since the DS-2368 was the best budget gaming mouse I have ever found for my hand size and grip. I have tried about 4 other models with similar profile and nothing quite touches it. Going to be a sad day when it finally gives up and dies. Similarly to what you mention, the Basilisk V3 is also the closest fit and it has decent linux support so that is my backup plan.

This form factor is the most comfortable mouse I have ever used. I use a newer generation, but despite Logitech not being the company it once was, I can't see myself ever using a different kind.

My 602 started going out on me a couple of weeks ago. I had repaired it a couple of times already, so I figured it was time to just replace it. After pouring over available mice, there was just nothing that really compared to me. I found one on ebay for about 15 bucks sold as is, ne details, but it was in visibly better condition than mine so I rolled the dice. Tried it out when it came in and it worka perfectly, only missing some of the skates, which I had some on hand for my other one. Lucked out for sure but I'm just happy to have my 602 back!

I'm still rocking the G500 mouse, arguably the greatest mouse ever made. I am, unfortunately, down to my last one, however. I've legit had a G500 since 2010, when I bit the Ship of Theseus PC that I'm still using today. It's been one hell of a ride.

502 has a mixed reputation. I bought one that's held up for 10+ years with zero issues but the backup I bought (for travel and hell it was on sale) basically had double click issues out of the box. I still love the shit out of it.

How old is it? I once had one and it broke just after the warranty ran out and heard similar stories from other people. I really liked it and my current mouse also needs replscement. I wonder if I should give the 502 another try.

Yeah, get any other brand when you buy a replacement. I bought a G305, and it lasted barely a year. I'm now using a Razer Orochi and am loving it.

I just changed the switches in my G604 last summer. I wasn't sure if the mouse would survive, though I'm happy it did. The rubber is also cracking, but luckily it isn't as bad as yours yet.
