Michigan Jewish Dems circulate letter endorsing Republican Mike Rogers for Senate

https://jewishinsider.com/2026/08/michigan-jewish-democrats-endorse-mike-rogers-open-letter/

Jewish leaders in Michigan are circulating an open letter urging Jewish Democrats and independents in the battleground state to sign their names in support of former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) as he faces Abdul El-Sayed, the far-left Democratic nominee for Senate whose hostile positions on Israel have alarmed many Jewish voters.

The letter, which was obtained by Jewish Insider on Wednesday and has not yet been publicized, is led by Eric Bronstein, a Detroit businessman, among others identifying as Democrats and independents.

It came to light after a fundraiser for Rogers on Tuesday night hosted by three prominent Jewish Democratic bundlers in Michigan who are likewise alarmed by El-Sayed’s candidacy. The growing efforts among Jewish Democrats to rally support for Rogers in the key Senate race illustrate the degree to which El-Sayed has alienated a sizable and politically active swing voting bloc in what is expected to be a close election.

Should be corrected to "Michigan Jewish conservatives pretending to be Dems circulars letter..."

Eldritch@piefed.world · 51 pts · 1d

No pretending going on here. For a lot of establishment Democrats this has been standard operating procedure. We absolutely need to change what a Democrat is and make it not include people like them though. And the fact they're reacting like this. Indicates that they know just how painfully vulnerable they are now that the DSA is directly targeting them and not just running third party.

Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip · 37 pts · 1d

Even more accurate would be Michigan Zionists. Don't let them get away with pretending this is about Judaism. Its about denying the liberation of the Palestinian people and continuing the ongoing oppression and genocide.

chunk6235@piefed.social · 6 pts · 1d

No, the title is accurate. There are a bunch of people that I've run into that flat out said if the DSA candidate for governor on my state won, they'd vote Republican.

Some people here in the Midwest have IQs that rival the average temp, it fucking sucks to hear that they'd rather support the people murdering people in the street over a DSA candidate.

kreskin@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1d

In all fairness, no one really knows what "Dem" even means anymore, besides a vague promise to not be as awful as the republicans, which the dems dont live up to where Israel is concerned.

arotrios@lemmy.world · 72 pts · 1d (4 replies)

What happened to "Blue no matter who?"

Seems like that particular messaging got real quiet once the DSA started winning.

theparadox@lemmy.world · 36 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Well, being disingenuous with literally ever fucking word they speak has worked wonders for Republicans. Turns out to be an effective technique for Corporate and Zionist Democrats too. It's almost like a class war or something.

AA5B@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 18h

Yeah, they’ve successfully conflated anti-genocide with anti-Zionist with anti-semitism. It’s quite an accomplishment really - no one would believe that goal if you said it out loud

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 1d

Well, not THAT blue.

“Blue U2??”

frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io · 60 pts · 1d (3 replies)

Dumbasses. Mike Rogers would run the gas chambers if Trump wanted him to.

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 1d

That might be why they endorsed him. Israel supports which ever does what they say… and el Sayed almost certainly won’t.

SupraMario@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 1d

Israel....El-Sayed isn't supporting Israel.... that's why these Zionist are wanting to have their followers vote for the GOP...

savvie@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 1d

by the way, very good hair there, Mr Mike!

bedwyr@piefed.ca · 39 pts · 1d

There was never any doubt, the moderates will try to sabotage progressives in the general election.

Their main purpose is not to beat republicans and keep them out of office, it's to keep control of the party.

As always, the "moderates" are weaponizing jewish people to keep control. Fuck you Starmer by the way you fucking cunt.

W3dd1e@lemmy.zip · 33 pts · 1d (2 replies)

This shit is bananas because I never hear the left say anything anti-Semitic.

But, i just saw a Trump supporter who was mad about Flock blame Jews for Flock.

Soooooooo yeah. The call is coming from inside the house.

TheFogan@programming.dev · 2 pts · 20h

They basically flip the term around. IE criticizing a specific government, is anti-semetic. Blanket blaming an entire population of people for things they aren't even directly associated with, is OK.

Weydemeyer@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 19h

This will only make actual antisemitism (the kind you describe) worse. The authors of this letter are telling Jewish voters to abandon any principles they have regarding their own country - it doesn’t matter if you support abortion rights, believe in funding public education and social welfare, or just oppose the Trump / fascist agenda. None of that matters compared to supporting Israel. It’s the antisemitic “dual loyalty” trope come to life.

You lost me at "far-left".

Blackfeathr@lemmy.world · 32 pts · 1d (2 replies)

I like (not really) how Mike Rogers is described in the mildest manner but Sayed is described in boogeyman terms.

Zaktor@sopuli.xyz · 12 pts · 1d

And he "alienated" the genocide lovers. Mild criticism that's fully in line with the mainstream Democratic voter alienated these special babies that must be coddled by the rest of the party.

savvie@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 1d

Excuse me, that’s “Mr” Mike Rogers!!!

Party traitors.

qarbone@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 1d

You can drop "party". They're convincing people to vote for the worse candidate because that worse candidate is more likely to approve policies to support and subsidize a parasitic foreign nation.

They are absolutely traitors to the USA.

This is neat. Do you know the source? Is it actually Seuss?

MisterDeutsch@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 23h (2 replies)

Before he could find work as an author, Seuss had a run of amazing political cartoons leading up to and during World War II. They are archived at some college web site called “Seuss Goes To War”.

Some of the racist characters are definitely “of the time”. I always show them to my seventh grade civics students to point out how propaganda works (and to make sure they don’t hold their heroes too close).

Stop Reading Jewish Insider as Straight News

From J-Street, itself a pro-Israel organization (albeit a less genocidal Israel).

HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I think the people of Michigan REALLY need to not underestimate the power of influence Israel, racism, the new Red Scare and Islamophobia have in this race.

Countless old fucks and Zionist Dem voters, as well as simply racist Dems are gonna jump ship, or at least refuse to turn out.

Don't get too comfortable in this race, nor others. Remember, even a close race that ends in victory is ripe for Trump and his goons to steal.

SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 6 pts · 1d

I’m proud to say that my son and I are doing our part. I will not relent in my continued condemnation of the apartheid state of Israel. We both voted in the primary, and almost all of my picks got through. I asked him a few days after the results were announced how he voted, stressing to him that he does NOT have to reveal that to anyone, even me, but that I was just curious. Without skipping a beat, he mentioned how our man destroyed Haley and the $30 million dollar infusion by a foreign state.

Like... ok. So antisemitism is bad still. Right? A surprising number suddenly like fascism and genocide. Idk. Might want to have a clubhouse meeting about that. It doesn't look great.

Don’t divide by party lines. Those times are over, and arguably have always been. Now it’s about neoliberals, fascists and leftists. The neoliberals pretend to care, but too often side with fascists.

Remember: they're JEWISH leaders with JEWISH concerns. Thats all. They're just worried for their fellow jewish people. I mean, if isreal stops killing just everyone they possibly can, think of what that means for jews around the world! /i'm not even sure if this is sarcasm

What will the response of leftists be?

It will likely involve hating Jews.

poccalyps@sh.itjust.works · -22 pts · 1d (5 replies)

Yeah. Tell me again how it is the Zionists that are a problem and not everyday Jewish people. Very, very hard not to feel a bit antisemetic right now.

Zaktor@sopuli.xyz · 14 pts · 1d

These sure sound like Zionists to me. Zionists and those trying to push Zionists love to describe them as just Jewish while policing the Jewishness of Antizionists. It's a propaganda tool, not reality.

bedwyr@piefed.ca · 9 pts · 1d (1 reply)

The main parties across the west use the jewish community as tools to attack upstarts in their parties and opponents. Not all Jewish people are their tools, Jewish Voices for Peace and the like and all. Bernie Sanders is Jewish too.

The party, and their media, are going to frame it as Jewish because tarring everyone not falling in line with their best fascist friends is an effective tactic because some people (in this case you,) are too, let's say misguided, to not be manipulated by the polits and their media.

poccalyps@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1d

Thanks for that perspective! A fair point.

MagicShel@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 1d

Eric Bronstein, a Detroit businessman

I guess this guy is all Jews now, folks.

Pretty fucking gross, dude. Even if it was every Jew, the response should be how did we alienate them, and can the relationship be rehabilitated without compromising our morals? not Welp, Jews bad.

FatCrab@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 22h

The majority of American Jews are not Zionists and a huge and growing portion of those are in fact anti-Zionist these days. Moreover, Jewish people have been at the forefront of almost every Palestinian solidarity movement in the US since before people started finally waking the fuck up in only the last couple of years to this century-long Zionist anti-Arab ethnostate horror project. And we will continue to do so even when we have to contend with pieces of shit like you with your shallow and feckless "solidarity" and sympathy at the same time.
