One Trump voter issued a tear-filled video regretting his decision to vote for the president after his brother, who served with U.S. special forces, died while in Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In a video posted to social media, Naseer Paktyawal tearfully recalled his brother's service to the country and the moment that ICE "kidnapped" him in front of his son, Imrin. ABC News initially posted the video.
...
"I saw two cars unmarked. Seven, eight people jump out of those cars," Paktyawal said. "One on the driver's side, one on the back of his car, and grabbed him from his seat and put a handcuff on him."
Mohammad Nazeer Paktyawal's son, Imrin, was also featured in the video and recalled witnessing his father's arrest. "I was standing there, and then they came and just take him," the boy said.
Imrin added that he was "standing there" as the agents hauled his father away. "I was like, just don't take him, please," Imrin recalled.
According to Paktyawal, he later received a call from an ICE facility. "I thought they were going to release him back," Imrin said.
"He said, 'Are you, Naseer?' That's me," Paktyawal said. "Your brother Mohamed Nasir Paktyawal passed away this morning and his body is laying down in a parking lot in the hospital."
...
"My first vote was for this president, and I regret it, and I'm gonna regret it for the rest of my life," he added. "Because of me, because of my voting, He got arrested, and he lost his life. And I'm never going to forgive myself for that."
CNN reported that he was taken by ICE agents outside of his Dallas apartment and died less than a day after being in ICE custody. His family said that Mohammad had no known health conditions and had been seeking asylum in the U.S. since his arrival in 2021.

I think it's likely the guy got mouthy, his brother is in the armed forces, actually believing these Chuds give a shit about veterans, they don't and never have. It's cynical posturing on their part and while we know they've fucked EVERY group of vets to the best of their ability, despite maybe the WWII ones, (only because WWII vets were too numerous and powerful after the new deal and war.)
So the Ice or whomever beat him to death or whatever. Same shit. Never get mouthy with cops, sadly it never works out well, at best you walk away as you would if you kept your mouth shut. There are ways of fighting an unjust system, mouthing off to security services with near complete control over your life and death with little consequence to themselves, is not one of them.

They cold-bloodedly execute citizens whose families have been here for generations, in front of dozens of witnesses, and on camera and nothing happens to them.
A citizen s life is worth less to them the the cost of the ammo they use, they don't even view immigrants as people.
bedwyr@piefed.ca · 10 pts · 2d
It's not about viewing as people or not, they don't view them as equals, or deserving, but of the enemy, and that includes the good's and pretti's.
They are all worked up about those that oppose them, have total backing to abuse those people, and next to nothing to fear of reprisals from the states they operate in much less the fed government.
How much does minneapolis suck that they haven't put out warrants for pretti and good's killers? It's on fucking video, and the shooters are identified. You don't need fed information cooperation. And you fucking knew this was going to happen, or should have.
We need all new leadership.

Sounds like they abducted him and murdered him and then dumped his body and they're not even trying to hide it.
By their Persian-sounding names, I'm assuming they're Afghani. It seems like this is one of the families the US brought out to protect them from the Taliban. People who worked with the US forces while they were there.
But his name was Mohamed. So clearly that's why ICE did this to him.
At least his brother has more self-awareness than most maga idiots whose family members get taken away or killed. This is the first time I remember reading anyone who voted for trump saying "I'll regret my vote for the rest of my life."

You are correct, he served along side Americans starting in 2005 and was legally relocated here. He was legal to be in the country until 2029, but ICE officials refused to look at his documentation.
The ice.gov site also slanders his name calling him a felon, but when NPR ran his background check it came up clean.

Being sure you killed your brother that you loved with all your heart with your reckless behavior is a rock bottom, so if anyone is capable of changing it will be this guy. Fuck, even the lily white people are getting attacked. Germans and British people are getting deported, and American born white men are getting mistakenly targeted as immigrants. Nevermind the fact that their trigger discipline is nonexistent and they're happy to shoot anyone who breathes in their direction.
I truly wish I could figure out how to explain this to MAGA supporters, but I don't need to be more depressed today.
Ooops@feddit.org · 7 pts · 3d
You can't explain it to them. There is only one thing those brain-deads without the capacity for basic empathy can understand: their own personal suffering.
So when you can't believably tell them, that they surely will be targeted (and you can't because their critical thinking skills are non-existent and their favorite talking-heads are telling them otherewise), there is just no point in trying.
starelfsc2@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 1d
It's kinda even worse than that, it's very close to just being a cult, they will give up almost all their values because the things they've blocked out that they'd have to face (everything really IS that bad, climate change is real, the immigrants I'm targeting are humans like me) is just too high a cost.

aceshigh@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3d

The dynamic is different with women. What you describe is "pick-me"s and they do exist. But women don't cease being women the way immigrants usually desire to cease being just that, and women are generally accepted by their society (within the constraints of that gender role). So for immigrants there is a far greater incentive to distance themselves from those that came after you.
There's also a self-selection going on, as people with specific traits are far more likely to emigrate than others. This is basically never brought up in immigration discourse, but immigrants from one country are by no means a representative slice of the people in that country.

I disagree to a point. It is absolutely reasonable to be frustrated with someone gullible enough to believe “fix grocery prices on day one.” These voters were either stupid or purposely ignorant, and I’m willing to bet most of them are both.
Nobody in their right mind believes that one person can wave a magic wand and fix everything in one day. I do think these people get what they voted for and unfortunately for this guy it’s a dead brother in ICE custody. Tragic state of affairs but not unforeseeable with Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric and Elon’s full Nazi salute on stage. Yes! I knew someone would take the bait. There is no way for the entirety of the Republican party can say that “they weren’t in their right mind” it’s not statistically possible. This is the same party that is pointing at the left with the silly TDS accusations. This isn’t a trial where Trump voters get to plea insanity at the end and get off the hook. They were in their right mind, they knew what they were voting for, and they explicitly did it anyways.
People loooove to give them the benefit of the doubt and say Trump voters are this confused, taken-advantage-of populace. These are the same people wearing “Lion not Sheep” merch. So which is it, are they the strong lion, or are they the confused baby sheep?
fuck_u_spez_in_particular@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 1d
Didn't say that. Just because you're mentally ill doesn't take you off the hook. i consider irrationally hateful and being easy to manipulate, mentally ill.
It's just a sad development of late stage capitalism (and following propaganda)...
but I challenge this, because who with a healthy mind, would vote against their own interests. You need to be masochist, or well, pretty stupid (I'm not talking about the obvious hateful stuff, more like all the things that Trump promises and absolutely not delivers, like improving economy and so on). There's way too many people that actually believe at least some of the bullshit he says. Well, it's a cult...
mursejoy@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 1d
While I do agree with your sentiment I still think it is less about "right mind/mentally ill" and more about uneducated/willful ignorance.
Red states use the vast majority of well fare resources in this country, but time and time again republicans vote against their self interest and slash those resources whenever possible.
Republicans are generally against universal healthcare and free college education, but a large majority of the 18 yo enlisted military come from middle of nowhere towns with no opportunities. They enlist to have a better life with government sponsored healthcare, housing, and education. Meanwhile voting against those same ideals for the general populous. They have always voted against their self interest. Usually they just do it with the idea of keeping someone else down, but they are just kicking themselves.
Edit: also thank you for the stimulating conversation this early in the morning.
fuck_u_spez_in_particular@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d
guess we need to define what mentally ill actually is, Because in a modern world where information is abundant and you could educate yourself, being this uneducated I think is definitely not a healthy mind. But then again, what do we call the Third Reich? I think it's also uneducated and mentally ill people. In the end I think it's just juggling words... When it's the majority, I guess it can also be the new normal?
And who with a healthy mind to does that?
Anyway, I just see this development in Europe as well, like being completely sealed off to factualism. It's saddening, to see people once with a somewhat healthy mind, now electing parties like AfD in Germany, distrusting science, being hateful and so on. It's kind of a mental disease, I wonder how we can fix that realistically...
InputZero@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d
Who? The majority of Republican voters that's who. What the fuck are you even on about? You're mixing up irrationality and mental illness. To suggest that a person who votes irrationality must be mentally ill is quite the bridge to cross.
Trump voters are not mentally ill. Well actually statistically there are but that's a seperate conversation. Trump voters are ignorant and irrational and they like it that way. That's what they want, they're not mentally ill, they're dumber than a rock.
fuck_u_spez_in_particular@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 1d
My point is half of the American population is fucking mentally ill, Call it dumber than a rock, ignorant, irrational, call it Republicans, I don't care. This is not healthy mental behavior. The modern capitalistic world is just not healthy for people. Like psychosis/narcissm and general anxiety disorder (racissm... fear of necessary change, e.g. because of climate crisis), likely schizophrenia... No sane person would elect Trump, yet here we are, Trump winning the popular vote even.
That this is happening on that massive scale is concerning. That's my whole point...
InputZero@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d
You think I didn't read or acknowledge your point. I did. It's not well thought out and gives excuses for people who do not deserve it. It's a bad argument.
I'll repeat, Trump voters are certainly ignorant and irrational but they're not mentally ill. Being willfully ignorant and irrational is not a mental illness. If it were they would not be responsible for their actions, we should forgive them and have pitty for the challenges their mental illness causes them.
Calling a Trump voter mentally ill let's them off the hook. If they were they couldn't have known what they were doing, they were sick. No. They're not sick. They're twisted but not sick. Don't give those people the benefit of the doubt. They'll use that against you.

I personally know many trump voters and almost all are legitimately racist and do not care what happens to illegals, so long as it's not in their immediate circle. Go look at polls of Republicans, they care about people in their family and friends, past that they don't care. This person would not have cared even a little if it wasn't their family member, and most likely would've had nothing to say. The fact that they were lied to about "immigrants taking their jobs" doesn't make them caring so little about their fellow man any less reprehensible.

"US special forces" .. guy who was killing people for living died by other people who kill for living. These people need a reality check to realize what justice means to what we do in our timed short earthly existance.
Even more disgusting the guy name was Mohamad.. probably an Afghan or Iraqi traitor who was killing his people for greencard ... whatever
