DHH is a moron who should be ostracized from FOSS, 100%. However this was an intentional brigading attempt which succeeded pretty well. Not sure why justinmk didn't just instantly ban the person making this issue and nuke it from the face of the earth. People saying that they are going to move from neovim probably weren't even using it in the first place and those that are, are probably bullshitting. This is like the 5th time this has happened in FOSS, I thought people would be wiser to just ignore people when they scream about this shit?

I've made ~6 Arch systems at this point. None of them have randomly broken on me, none of them have broken after an update and to be honest have been solid. I have no idea where the narrative of Arch being able to destroy itself at any point came from, but I don't think it's true at all.

Not sure why there are so many people in this thread and on other Fediverse circles saying banning cryptocurrency-related projects is a good thing. The wording in this TOS is absolutely terrible and is vague enough that it will probably be abused. By the way, people especially in FOSS use cryptocurrency as an actual currency rather than just gambling and scamming. To all the people defending this: do you think being forced to use fiat currency, especially in opressive and increasingly oppresive governments, is a morally superior alternative to cryptocurrency? Come on guys.

"It can be used by criminals" so can darknets like Tor and I2P. So can all free and open source software. I genuinely believe that the people pushing these arguments either have no idea what cryptocurrencies are OR are completely brainwashed

People should have stopped using Codeberg simply because it's a large centralised platform, how anyone is even still moving to it is completely beyond me

Birth rate isn't the only thing, life expectancy and the age of the average population is too. This is a factor that everyone in this thread seems to be ignoring because it proves why there is an appropiate reaction to the bottom 3 countries.

I've never blocked anyone on Lemmy. I only nlock instances and communities and out of thosr I've only blocked 3

And here we see yet another person screeching like a banshee over a Lemmy thread

You were overgeneralising your own argument by stating that if children didn't receive gender affirming care they would "likely kill themselves". That is what you said. The word "likely" is doing insane amounts of heavy lifting, however it implies that they are more likely to kill themselves than not. You are saying I am misconstruing your point when I understood it in the way that any other person would

Trans children are 4x more likely to commit suicide. Okay, well do you think that's simply because of there not being gender affirming care available? Or do you think its because of the actual transphobia perpetuated in our media and society that you accuse me of?

Sure, the AK47 example was a tad bit extreme and I will concede that it was a bad example, but the point still stands that children should not be making permanent life-altering changes. The fact is, the cost to society and the individual itself due to detransitioning will likely be greater

I support trans people and their plight for acceptance in this world but this rhetoric and ideology is not how you do it

I'm very much aware that gender dysphoria exists

And I think the treatment for it should only be given to adults due to the permanence of the operation, and the very real and common possibility of one wanting to detransition, especially if transitioning is done at a younger age

The cost to the individual and society is less if they're only allowed to do it as adults

To say that every single kid who doesn't transition is going to kill themselves is such an insane and emotionally manipulative take. By this logic you could say that because a kid is going to kill himself because he won't get an AK47, you should give the kid an AK47

I hope you know that you can prevent secondary effects without always solving the original primary effect. It's a lot safer and cheaper to do so
