It was literally done because certain tasks were required by regulations to be approved by a vice president, so banks just handed out the VP title to everyone and their brother.

From what I've heard of this story, a woman who had a history of mental issues stabbed a random man getting out of the subway and then went and stabbed this woman. Her position at a bank is nothing more than attention grabbing headlines.

Just a heads up, if you look into this at all you'll probably come across the video of the stabber being shot and killed.

From what I was able to discern, the CEO of UHC was really just a nepo frat boy selected by the board. He had no special skill or talent, other than looking like another white man in a suit and selecting multiple choice answers about what to do in the company.

What exactly do you think the CEOs of large corps do? Make sound decisions based on their experience in the trenches of their industry? Ha! Their entire role is to be a frat boy, party (aka "network") with other CEOs, allow the board/private equity to make dumbass decisions that'll tank the company, then take the fall when those decisions inevitably lead to problems. Nepo baby is a legit resume booster because it means you were born with more connections than most people will ever have.

I've worked with a lot of CEOs and while a lot of them are as you describe, many of them are smart and have a good handle on what their company does. And too many of them are afflicted with varying degrees of sociopathy.

Worked with CEOs of what size companies? Small business CEOs definitely need to know their shit and put in the work. Enterprise CEOs need to look good in press conferences and have books full of billionaires.

Most just in the US. When I worked at an American company, even some tech support folks were given Vice President titles because it apparently makes customers happy to be talking to a VP.

A manager manages a small team, a director manages several managers, and then a vice president manages directors. They usually have ~100 people under them, but it can vary widely

It's an American bank, they're like 30% vice presidents. And that's when you include bank tellers in the branches, not just the corporate side. I suspect it's more like 50% vice presidents if you go to the main office.

You remember those playing cards that were popular in the early 00's? The ones that were given to US Troops in Afghanistan or Iraq or whichever country W was mad at at the time....with the pictures of Taliban leadership?

That was a pretty cool idea.

We should bring something like that back, but so that people can recognize some of the most powerful people in public.

Not so that they can hurt them, obviously, I wouldn't endorse that.

Just to make sure that if somebody were to hurt them, they make sure not to fucking see it

We don't have to be limited to 52 either. We can do different sets for different industries. Banking, housing, medical, pharma, fucking FedEx, whatever. Be a big collectible. Great holiday gift for anyone who is 3 months closer to poverty than they are to prosperity.

Corporate hierarchy is somewhat nebulous.

In general, they tend to break it a little bit like:

Pleeb(1-3)->Team lead-> Manager-> Director-> VP -> C-staff -> maybe founder

If they have multiples of the higher level stuff, they'll make them juniors or seniors. And then they'll add more of the same position if they're dealing with more people.

And then, of course, they'll just add titles to pay people more money if they've been there for a while or they make them more money.

I've never understood why all those big companies want to congregate on Times Square. It's essentially impossible to set up any type of security perimeter outside the building. And there are regularly nut balls all over the place right there.

Sept 1 (Reuters) - A Bank of America (BAC.N), opens new tab vice president was killed in a stabbing in New York City's Times Square on Monday, ‌sending a shock wave through the bank after the random incident took place in broad daylight in the heart of the city's tourist industry. Erin Piacenti, 32, was a vice president in BofA's business selection and conflicts unit, according to her LinkedIn profile. The NYPD said that the suspect was a woman with a history of mental health issues.

Probably was exactly as described, but I still question anything cops say, especially NYPD. There's a chance they killed her to prevent discovery that this wasn't a random event, to avoid another Luigi situation. Not a big chance, but a chance. Ten years ago, I would have scoffed at such a suggestion, now I'm making it myself.
