I think you underestimate how much damage this regime is creating. All the programs gutted and shuttered (so far) might not even come back, it's not as simple as turning something off and on again. Some crucial programs we've got taken away are already lost. And the damage being done in just the first year is still only the start. Everything from Projeckt 2025 is still being actively done. Remember when P2025 was mentioned everywhere? Now it's crickets, because it's nearly game over for at least a generation. It's good to remain hopeful in difficult times, but be very wary that it's going to get a lot darker when this regime feels the walls closing in. There will be bloodshed and it will be an ugly mark on our history.

If Trump was the only one in them; we'd have them by now. I agree with the pressure on Trump because obviously he's the fucking president. But I really wish this pressure existed prior to this pedophile being president. I really think until the recent media coverage about Trump anyone on the left was treated as a Qanon nutjob if they said their was more to it. (At least treated that way by mainstream media). I'm glad we are here. But I'm also sad it took so long.

I'm blind. What does this say?

Repelle@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 362d (1 reply)

Apologies, I’m usually better at adding descriptions. I’ve edited it, and it says: Damn, that’s crazy. Where are the Epstein Files

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 2 pts · 362d

Thanks. If you're wondering why your image posts get down voted, that's probably why

despoticruin@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 362d

There is a picture of stars, overlaid with a purple tone and retro-futuristic geometries including some overlapping triangles in the upper middle of the image, with the bottom third composed of a wireframe ground as if to simulate an old vector videogame.

Over this image, in an aggressive sans serif font reads:

"DAMN, THAT'S CRAZY! WHERE ARE THE EPSTEIN FILES?"

yakbone@lemmy.world · 68 pts · 363d (4 replies)

More distraction from the Epstein files

candyman337@lemmy.world · 54 pts · 363d (1 reply)

It's not a distraction, it's just more attempts at eroding democracy so that Trump's term and Republican's control doesn't end. The Epstein files is only worth something if Trump could be successfully prosecuted or impeached, which we've seen won't fucking happen. Yeah they matter, but this is not a distraction, they've effectively moved on. It's done, they've gotten the prosecutor fired, and their star witness is on """work release""" probably resuming human trafficking

Drusas@fedia.io · 4 pts · 363d

She's not on work release; she has been made eligible for it.

Otherwise, yes.

Why did it take you so long?

compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 44 pts · 363d (2 replies)

Cool. Elections are administered by the states though, and my state guarantees mail-in ballots in the constitution. Sooooo, good luck with that, I suppose?

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 362d (1 reply)

If the Save act goes through I don't see how they couldn't do similar with this. I imagine the argument would be the same, that they are not taking the administration of the voting away from the states, just setting a standardized required method. I don't think he'd be able to do it via executive order legally, but I dont know who would stop it. He could just have the house/Senate pass it like the save act if they so wanted. Your state constitution doesn't matter at that point. We like to say it's a free country but it took us 4 amendments just to get to a point that still basically says our people don't have the right to vote.

The constitution didn't have a right to vote.

The bill of rights didn't have a right to vote.

The 15th amendment (1870) said we can't restrict voting based off Race.

The 19th amendment (1920) said we can't restrict voting for women.

The 24th Amendment (1964) said we can't restrict the voting by taxing polls.

The 26th Amendment (1971) said we can't restrict voters over 18 (previously 21).

Most people think this means all those people have a right to vote, but it is really the government doesn't have the ability to explicitly restrict those people from voting.

If U.S. citizens had the right to vote none of those amendments would have been necessary and we would be free to vote and our arguments would hold up in court easier. But the U.S. has long perpetuated the lie that we are free. We are a "democratic Republic" where the government can, has, and will try to restrict our freedom at every turn if it benefits those in power.

Tldr; If U.S. citizens had a right to vote, we wouldn't have had amendments, the Supreme Court would have ruled a long time ago that any act restricting U.S. citizens from voting was illegal.

compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 362d

The ‘if’ in ‘if the SAVE Act goes through’ is doing a lot of work. The recent bill that was passed was only able to be done through budget reconciliation, because you only need 50 votes plus the VP to break the tie. But for bills outside of budget reconciliation, you need 60 votes to end the filibuster. Barring anything unforeseen (recognizing that breaking norms is the norm for this administration), there’s no way I could see it getting through the Senate.

Can’t intimidate people away from voting if they vote by mail.

MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 363d

Release the Trump/Epstein files

mercano@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 363d

OK, but elections are run by states, not the federal government, and the GOP has worked to defang the FEC, so I don’t know how he actually plans to make this happen.

cmeu@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 363d (1 reply)

A constitutional fight is just what he's after. No doubt scotus will find the constitution does in fact grant this power to the president, no take backs, neener neener

Typhoon@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 362d

It's not a collection. It's a grift shop. There are multiples of each item. Look at the shelves on the right too. There are stacks of books to be sold.

It's not a collection. It's merch.

Yes, that's Zelenskyy in black.

zululove@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 362d

That’s a merch store and trump isn’t running again his entire purpose was to bring JD Vance on to subvert MAGA culture.

ubergeek@lemmy.today · 12 pts · 362d (1 reply)

Does he care about constitutionality?

There have been many things he's done already that are unconstitutional, and the only response from the Dems are "Well, wait for the election gais, I swear!!"

Worst bait ever lmaoooo. Feds don't run elections, states do.

Until the feds show up with armed troops, and "manage" the election.

Yeah... then the governor can roll out the NG and counter them. It'll be a huge fucked up mess.

You mean like how they are doing it now, to counter the unconstitutional actions of the federal government today?

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 363d (2 replies)

When is he gonna announce they're doing away with voting altogether?

jabeez@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 362d (1 reply)

He kinda did during campaign, told his voters they wouldn't have to do it again, just get him back in one more time. Of course our diligent 4th estate unleashed the hounds demanding answers to what he meant by that........yeah jk they ignored it like everything else he's done in order to help usher in fascism.

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 362d

I'm baffled that Trump keeps being allowed to get away with this shit. The Heritage Foundation outright announced the plan for fascism and it's just being allowed to happen. Whenever Trump does something outrageous, I see people saying there would be consequences if anyone else did it. But why then does he get away with it? What makes him different than anyone else?

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 3 pts · 362d (2 replies)

But online voting won't be touched?

Bytemeister@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 362d (1 reply)

I think online voting is not available in most states. Without looking it up, I think Oregon or Utah is the only state that allows it.

Edit : Most states have it for overseas or for people on military deployment. A handful of states have it for people with disabilities.

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 1 pts · 361d

Maine and Colorado too. Maybe a few more

n1ck_n4m3@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 362d

Yeah, well, an absolute shit-ton of what that dipshit has done has been blasted as unconstitutional and very little of has managed to be stopped, so you'll forgive me if I just don't give a shit how "blasted" his actions get if there's no actual meaningful impact to them seeing fruition that comes from it.

AlexLost@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 362d

He knows the GOP can't win if people actually turn out to vote, so making it very hard to vote is the name of the game for the Repugnants.

Except voting days are during the work week and the majority of the voting population can't afford to miss work to "bloody well queue up". Restricting mail in voting is voter suppression in this country.

Why the fuck do you care if someone stood in line to vote anyways?

seejur@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 362d

Dont forget gerrymandering as well, where they put the ballot 50 miles away from your location, so that is convenient for republicans, but almost unaccessible for Democrats

zalgotext@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 362d (3 replies)

If you don't live here, why would you comment about how we vote? Voicing your opinion on a topic that you "don't really care" about is meaningless at best and harmful at worst. If we were anything alike you'd recognize that, and you'd be advocating for more access and methods for voting, not less.

kent_eh@lemmy.ca · -1 pts · 362d (2 replies)

If you don't live here, why would you comment about how we vote?

Because America has stuck its fingers in the business of every other country.

How you Americans vote impacts the rest of the world.

And in the case of your current federal government, we are being impacted especially negatively. (As are you guys, but shooting yourselves in the foot is less of a concern to me than the fact that the stray bullets are flying past my head)

inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 362d

Sure but when I comment about Canadian politics, I do a some preliminary research to understand the baseline facts and context before commenting, something this user clearly did not before making a flippant and asinine remark backed up by nothing.

zalgotext@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 362d

Then more people from all over the world should be encouraging Americans to push for more mail-in voting (and other expanded voting options). Not telling people to "bloody well queue up".

inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 362d

Well if this isn't a dumb ass comment but hell, go ahead and provide your reasoning for standing in line for hours.

I can list off all of the reasons why the majority of states, including dumb as red states, have no excuse mail in voting.

  • Proven increase in voter participation
  • Reduction in fraud due to multiple layers of checks and additional time for reviews
  • Reduces the cost of having polling stations and workers
  • Produces a more informed voting base.

Also, my favorite little tidbit about mail in voting:

The conservative Heritage Foundation, which has warned of the risks of mail voting, found 14 cases of attempted mail fraud out of roughly 15.5 million ballots cast in Oregon since that state started conducting elections by mail in 1998.

But no, really, go ahead and provide your, I'm sure, well reasoned and researched stance on requiring "bloody well queue up".
