ya know .. the only thing that's taken my out of this bad headspace was mushrooms. done it twice over 4-5 years when I heard about micro dosing. perhaps I should board the pets and see if it can help for another 6-8 months
You should! It's absolutely mental healthcare. For me it would be best if i did it around every 3 months, but i usually only wind up doing it like every 9 months. We both need to take our vitamin M
There's studied scientific proof of it's benefits to mental health. Just because it didn't do anything for you doesn't mean it doesn't do anything for other people. And if you didn't feel any effect then the shrooms you had were very weak or you didn't take enough
not American no. I've gone the therapy route, that was expensive af even with coverage and made things worse sadly.
I like caring for others, there just isn't others in my life. I could cancel my phone and nobody would know. haven't had a guest over in easily over 3 years. covid really fucked me up and I've never recovered. still isolated.
I'm not going to do anything to myself, the thoughts are always there. life's just super lonely and really getting to me.
I feel you. If you ever feel lonely, you can dm me here and we can talk about anything you like. Having even someone to talk to online helps a lot. No one deserves to be alone in this world.
Friendships- getting to experience life through their stories and having someone to share your own
children - watching them grow, observe and learn their world. My daughter called the moving sidewalk at the airport today “the travelator”
travel - experiencing life, architecture and food from a different culture’s perspective are some of the best parts of living
stories - you have Netflix on there, but I’d add to finish that long form podcast or that good book
volunteering - use acts of service to serve yourself. You’ll have people who rely on you. Also helps with garnering a few friendships.
Hobbies - that ruby throated hummingbird needs you to keep filling up the feeder. Why is it still here in late fall anyway? Maybe it knows you need it too.
If it helps, I’m not some happy bunny traipsing through the tulips of life. I’ve been severely depressed before. I was so depressed that I dropped out of university at one point and it took me nearly 10 years to return to get a degree. I was so depressed after my SO left me 4 months after I thought she was the one and moved away from everything I knew for her, that I laid in bed for half a year. I was so depressed when I just worked and rarely, if ever, dated for 3 years in my late 20s - I ended up quitting my job and moving, which led to me learning my passion for long distance cycling, new friends and renewed career opportunities.
It does get better if you let it, if you will it even, and sprinkled with little bit of luck when those opportunities present themselves.
The whole list is kind of sad, but "It will get better" is the most infuriating bullshit. Like, the others are all demonstrable: I am in the middle of a TV series, I did hear about a new album coming out, and my dog might starve if I died suddenly and without a care plan. But, especially going off of data trends, blind and brainless optimism is uncalled for and patronizing.
I used to contemplated sending a box of crunchy leaves to a friend who's always lived in Florida. She used to lament that the dry leaves around her didn't crunch the way "autumn leaves" are supposed to (and it's true. A lot of plants in Florida have waxy or fuzzy leaves, neither of which is as satisfying to stomp on as a crispy, dry, red maple leaf.)
The idea sounded better before I thought about how when you're camping, it's best to source firewood from the nearby area - bringing wood from far away could inadvertently spread diseases and pests into new locations. If that's true of firewood from a few counties over, it's probably true for leaves from northern states going to south Florida. Sigh.
Get your new music from somewhere better tho, like community radio. Found so many new and local artists recently from doing this. And it's great because you find out about upcoming gigs that are usually cheap coz the acts are small.
To add to and further support your argument "helping the current political turmoil", Spotify invested $700M (and even more beforehand) into AI drone weaponry.
Same. I'm facing a dire financial issue at the moment, been seriously considering finding a home for my pets and dipping out by the end of the year. The only thing that's kept me from doing that already is that my oldest pet is 16 and does not do well with anyone
I’ll add one: to appreciate the beauty of life itself, or in other words: be happy.
That does tie in with the “it gets better” and you’ll have to trust me when I say that happiness can be found.
But for whatever it’s worth, I wasn’t always happy, and I went through very dark places in the past. Yet I found happiness in multiple places and I honestly don’t feel like I need to pretend anymore.
However that might not mean a lot if I didn’t give some pointers to help you find it. To find happiness the best thing you can is to find peace within yourself, which implies becoming at peace with who you are. First of all, don’t let the sadness in the world distract you from your own happiness, because the best way to combat the world’s sadness is by being happy yourself. Then you can become an example for others to become happy too. And second, don’t assume it means nothing. We live in a spiritual place that’s mysterious and wonderful. There’s endless happiness to be found there. If you don’t think that’s true, I believe you owe it to yourself to explore so that you may find it. Because you can. And when you do, things will get better. Trust.
"I will have my peace. I'll carve it out of sheer stone if I have to, but nobody can take it from me." has been kind of a mantra for me recently. It's always a struggle, but I can always just breathe in... and back out. Trust
Honestly, spite against a cold and uncaring universe is pretty valid. Living a fulfilling life because oblivion isn't the boss of you and you can do what you want is based.
Qtips feel like shit, what is wrong with you. New music sucks, oldies is where its at. Your pets will eat your corpse after you die, you are just emergency food. It wasnt worth it, spite solves nothing. Mom never cared to begin with, she won't care. Crunchy leaf... like what? Chances are your enemies will outlive you, enjoy that information. Your show won't end properly because it made a quarter of a penny too little and was canceled. It will not get better, and funny pictures will not help that deep pain in your stomach. Trampolines are fun until you break your leg falling in between the springs.
Debunked. Take that.
(Not sure why I felt like being the internet ahole today, but uh, enjoy i guess. Have a big slobbery forehead kiss OP. Good post, but today was my day to be evil. 😈)
Only if you don’t bother exploring anything that isn’t on the radio. People are always making music, and some of it is bound to be good. Pick a couple tags and sift through Bandcamp.

I, for a long time, tried to kill myself, but couldn’t do it due to my mum and brother getting hurt too much by it. I am in a much better place now.
I recommend trying to get some help, and I hope you’re out of the US, so you can get some too, because that message rang way too close to home.

Getting into an MMO like WoW or FFXIV might help with staving off the loneliness even if for a little while if you have a PC or a laptop.
Plenty of people on them spending their nights in discord calls chatting away and sometimes plying other games too.
It’s a great way to make some friends

Yeah, fuck Spotify. They helped the current political turmoil take place by hosting Trump propagandists (at the time) like Joe Rogen.
They also pay artists far, far less than alternatives like Tidal, or even Apple music.
