I think it's more the fact that communism in it's real world manifestations is all about control, and they can't have competing organized religion, unless they pervert into some state converted version.

I lived in one of these "communist" countries, its actually just a state capitalist hell, practially zero social safety net, zero free busses, zero free childcare, zero free lunch, internal border control, a very "papers please" environment, just more government oppression.
Reason why these failed is bexause of the lack of democracy, the vanguardism has failed it.
Mamdani is not a "communist", he is a Democratic Socialist, he believes in democracy. We have already seen success with "socialist" policies when they get implemented under a democratic system such as in Norway, for example.

Talking seriously, from a "centrist" point of view, worrying about that a "gay trans sociallist hellscape" makes no sense seeing how easy is for the right to get to power no matter how crazy it seems.
If we don't attempt democratic socialism then capitalism will bring absolute poverty to the economy (we're already so close, but people aren't eating leather yet), which will lead to revolt, rebellion, and lots of death. Then a most likely scenario will be Communism, where things will likely look good at first, then quickly fall backwards. Then more revolt, then fractured states. We're about 50 years away from being the Northern States of America, with all kinds of squabbles, different laws, sketchy trade deals, etc. All this will likely end in the worst scenario: Texas is claimed by Mexico and Texans will all be refugees fleeing to other states.
Dude I think you've been drinking a little too much of the kool-aid, none of those scenarios would actually happen even within 50 years. Absolutely no way zero. If you think Mexico would become a more successful State than any part of the United States then you really are smoking some good shit. If they are willing to not only play by the rules but respect them as they are literally are country, then its fine they have and push for their opinions. The system when actually applied should get us something at least functional. America literally is the constitution and if you break it you are the unamerican.

When Social Security and the New Deal programs were introduced, they were called socialism
When the voting age was lowered to 18, it was called socialism
When the FMLA was passed, it was called socialism.
