When I was a kid in the 90s, I kept thinking about the Power Rangers and how they were kind of gay, and I felt kinda gay, but they were kind of lame, and I didn’t wanna be lame.
So I got really into Star Trek in computers instead. I’m 47, and I’m confident that I made the correct decision. Star Trek definitely made me feel pretty OK about being gay, that’s for sure.
It was a long time ago. Difficult to remember. Plus, I was on a lot of drugs by then…
Edit: hold on, the show came out in 1993, when I was 14. So that’s not at all as creepy as you implied. maybe you caught it on reruns? Or you’re not in the United States, and it debuted years later in your country?
Ah, yes… 1993, the year I discovered the joys of smoking…
Do you think the zords just broke the sound barrier inches above Angel Grove as they appeared in 1.7 seconds? Or do giant monsters patiently wait for them to arrive?
This is the part of Power Rangers that breaks verisimilitude?
Not the smoke ghost living in a glass tube or the creatures made out of actual putty or the seemingly endless supply of cities to destroy while also apparently saving them?
Well his zord just keeps getting bigger and zordon threatened to chuck me into space while he wandered around drunk in pants that left absolutely nothing to the imagination. You know what? It's gone. I have no imagination left zordon killed it.
If you look at pictures of it, it has a few valve buttons on it, exactly like a trumpet. So, why he plays it sideways like a flute, rather than like a trumpet from the tip, I don't know.
Red ranger I guess you can be leader and then just sitting there watching him get, flute dagger, dinosaur, shoulder pads, white on gold, sick snow tiger.
I was never into X Files, and it wasn't until recently I realized why.
It's because the show encourages people to be Mulder.
Lemme explain, the show is pure UFOlogy propaganda. You can be Scully and have a skeptical mind who wants hard proof before you'll admit an outlandish idea is worth looking into.... But then you'd be wrong, because the skeptics are just ignorant closeminded saps! Unwilling to look at the evidence that's all around us!
Even though in real life, the believers jump to the conclusion and work backwards from there to "prove it", whereas it's the skeptics who actually consider the evidence and go where it leads... Which has never in the history of anything been supernatural.
90's Television and Movies had this problem in general, the skeptic is always wrong, and the believer is always rewarded for their faith. The skeptic is always portrayed as ignorant and stuck in their own ways, while the believer is shown as open-minded, full of wonder, and just a delight to be around.
It absolutely had a negative impact on me growing up, always believing in magic, believing it only wasn't working because I wasn't doing it right, or because I didn't believe hard enough.... That's gotta be it, because skeptics aren't good people, the stories all say so!
It's only as an adult that I realize skeptics are bitter and angry for a damn good reason, people keep believing in nonsense and making it the problem of those around them. The skeptic would love for magic to be real, but that's never where the evidence points. Because magic isn't real.
I didn't hate it, but it was very much not my jam and I was also the odd one out in school being one of the only kids that wasn't obsessed with it. I'd listen to the theme song, then change the channel to like Hey, Dude or Salute Your Shorts.
Maybe it was actually his helmet making the sound but the dagger daggerflute was the electronic "key" to access music mode. He blows into his microphone and instead of it relaying the sound of his breaths it encodes it into flute playing. Technology is wonderful.
How is that weird? If one of the weapons you have requires blowing into it you make it work with your helmet on.
It's just so fucking dumb to think that doesn't make sense. It's like calling out a chef for having a knife to cut things with.
Are you saying that this is a specially designed flute players helmet?
If playing a flute were just about blowing air then I'd be agreeing with you. But a flute needs lips. Is the player forcing some super extending lips through a hole in the helmet?

I'm 42, and I felt like I was too old for power rangers after Season 1.
You would have been close to 18 by the time the show debuted. I think I was 12 when it debuted, and outgrew it almost immediately.
Maybe that's why they felt lame to you. It was a kids show, and you were old enough to be in the Gulf war at the time it was happening.
tacosanonymous@mander.xyz · 10 pts · 35d
The production was so low. You could tell when the footage was reused from Saban's earlier shows. Also, it kinda felt dated already when it came out.
