What is this? A meal on an Aircraft Carrier?

CaptDust@sh.itjust.works · 93 pts · 19d

Couldn't be, there's protein on the plate

JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 35 pts · 19d (2 replies)

It's the new barbecue place in town

Illegalmexicant@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 19d (1 reply)

The new barbecue place in town is a meme?

PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 19d

Can’t be. Meat isn’t blue enough.

anugeshtu@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 18d

No, I heard those meals need to be "steamed" 🤪

THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world · 94 pts · 19d (4 replies)

"We do things a little different around here."

And then proceeds to do everything by the vanilla play book. Moreso for manbun burger places, but still works here.

The new BBQ place in my town

OriginEnergySux@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 18d

Godric@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 19d (5 replies)

That is $300

Carl@anarchist.nexus · 5 pts · 18d

My local BBQ place will do a full 3-meat (and sides) catering spread for 20 people for $350. If you’re paying $300 for 6 people, you’re getting ripped off.

Cypher@aussie.zone · -2 pts · 19d (3 replies)

Depends on which currency I suppose but probably not $300 in the one you were thinking

Snapz@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 18d

Just say the price you actually paid for that platter for 6 (judging by the hamburger buns) with those boiled looking brisket without a smoke ring.

ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 18d (1 reply)

Wouldn't $300 in any currency still be $300?

Like 5 kilogram of any material is still 5 kilogram?

Sure you might have one block of steel and 250.000 grains of rice.... But still 5 kilogram.

ieGod@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 18d

$ doesn't tell you anything though. $ CAD != $ AUD != $ USD. Grams have an agreed upon global meaning.

Either way, they should tell us the currency.

Edit: In Toronto, this is a common price for this quantity (1/2lb), in CAD.

motruck@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 18d (2 replies)

That'll be $200 please and thank you.

YUM

Nice sly reference to the company owning several well-known restaurant chains.

Yum! Brands, Inc. (sometimes called just Yum!) is an American multinational fast food corporation. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, the company operates KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Habit Burger & Grill, and several technology companies. Yum! is one of the world's largest fast food restaurant companies in terms of system units. In 2016, Yum! had 43,617 restaurants, including 2,859 that were company-owned and 40,758 that were franchised, in 135 nations and territories worldwide.

2016? Guess Wikipedia hasn't updated this one in a while.

Gullible@sh.itjust.works · 13 pts · 19d

It's been ages since I've set foot in a bbq restaurant because of this.

*equips cane, glasses, and supplemental O2 tank*

Back in my day, an entree in these places wouldn't break the bank, and would send you home with leftovers every time.

boonhet@lemmy.zip · -8 pts · 18d (4 replies)

Can y'all stop using the word entree to mean main course rather than appetizer? It has the same root as entry for a reason lol, it comes before the main course. The English word is just "main course".

chloroken@lemmy.ml · 11 pts · 18d (2 replies)

Entree is common Anglo parlance for the main meal. Shut up, pedant.

ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 19d (3 replies)

This is what Mission BBQ is like, but add in the guilt trip to buy a $3 plastic drink cup "for the troops". And the barbecue is not good. It's not inedible or anything, it's just that everything (including the sides) is loaded with sugar.

Zebrafive@lemmy.myserv.one · 1 pts · 18d (2 replies)

I had Mission BBQ onboard the US Ship Truman and did not pay anything so if you bought a cup thanks for your service. Like and unlike the Lincoln the total deployment time was 7 months with 2 port visits and in the gulf Arabian Sea the supply chain isnt always the most efficient.

ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 18d (1 reply)

I didn't buy a cup FWIW. I assumed you guys were paid from the US military budget and hence from my taxes, not from Mission BBQ plastic cups.

motruck@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 18d

Do the same for tips.

MyDogLovesMe@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 19d (18 replies)

AnotherWastedHuman@retrolemmy.com · 18 pts · 19d

It's spelled Brexit

imadethis@fedinsfw.app · 8 pts · 19d (6 replies)

Which is insane. I remember 1/2 lb moist for $4.99. Brisket used to be a cheap meat because it was always thought horrendous, and smoking it was the only way to tenderize it enough to be palatable. Freaking ridiculous.

CaptDust@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 19d (2 replies)

Chicken wings is like 6pc for $10 and I didn't smash enough of them when they were a quarter each, sadge

imadethis@fedinsfw.app · 0 pts · 19d (1 reply)

Which is weir, because chicken is one of the few items in the grocery store that I haven't really seen a large increase in the price, and the all you can eat wings deals at restaurants have only slightly increased. Meanwhile, like you said, everything else that is chicken at a restaurant has noticeably risen.

lightnsfw@reddthat.com · 4 pts · 19d

all you can eat wings deals

Do restaurants still do that? I don't think I've seen that deal in 10 years.

JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 19d (2 replies)

Second reference to a distinct "moist" brisket opinion. Wtf does that mean? I certainly don't want it if it's dry af!

imadethis@fedinsfw.app · 7 pts · 19d (1 reply)

So the brisket is generally an unappetizing piece of the cow corpse. A long time ago, some realized that slowly cooking it over a very long time, which has been 'formalized' into smoking it for 24 hours, makes the meat tender enough to eat. The brisket has different parts, some of which have more fat than others. The moist brisket is the portion where the fat is very thick. Generally the smoking process makes the fat shrink, but it's still a significant portion of the meat. Think a layer cake where the icing is give or take 1/6 - 1/4 of the cake's entire portion. That's moist.

The lean brisket is usually where either the fat was thin enough to not be visible after the smoking, or it was deliberately scraped off before/during the smoking. The meat will not be dry like a piece of toast, but you won't ever have a piece of fat in your mouth either. The way the particular bbq joint prepares it will differ, so assume these are broad strokes and not very specific designations.

Some people have preferences that are wild. My friend literally wants just the fat and will eat it like it's candy, while my mother wants it the consistency of jerky.

JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 18d

Gotcha, thank you. I have never been to a place that differentiates, it's just fat sometimes no fat other times. I don't personally like the fat unless it's really been rendered, but the meat from fatty slices is definitely better.

Brosplosion@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 19d (2 replies)

architect@thelemmy.club · 1 pts · 18d (2 replies)

Texas has the shittiest fucking barbecue. To the point where they shouldn’t even be fucking calling it barbecue it’s fucking garbage. If someone asked if you want barbecue in Texas, you should expect a fucking sausage on a tortilla. Fucking trash.
