Maybe this didn't need to be AI slop though.

NEVER SLOP!

skisnow@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 20h

for real, it would have taken all of 20 seconds to make this on a meme generator site

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · -41 pts · 1d (16 replies)

My dude, you've posted once since you've joined. You could re-type it out for him? Don't be so harsh on the content posters. If it bothers you so much, start posting your own memes the old school way. I could see you being shitty if you're doing everything by hand. https://imgflip.com/memegenerator

Strawman/Whataboutism?

Its one thing to cuck yourself for AI slop but it's wild trying to think you have the moral high ground for it or something lol

I am another lurker that doesn't appreciate slop.

Deal with it.

Sorry. Not all of us have the time to make 5000+ posts on this website.

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · -24 pts · 1d (1 reply)

But certainly more than 2 while bitching about other people's content? This is just to distract from the OP's point for you guys anyway, right? That's why I picked this one to confront you guys, it's not that big of a deal if it's distracted from.

LostCarcosan@lemmy.today · 8 pts · 1d

Well, it's not the OP's content. It's not even the content of whoever posted it for the first time. It's AI slop and you're embarassing yourself trying to defend it

The way you're going on at them is as if you had hundreds of posts, rather than 0.

SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social · 1 pts · 22h (1 reply)

What does that mean to be on curated?

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 12h

shadow ban. They only let some of them through. Every now and then I post to a random community that's not theirs, and it sneaks through their filter. It's not a big deal, it is what it is.

Honestly I have to agree with this. My grandfather became the most solid democrat you could ever find, to the point where he actively participates in the election system during polling days and drives candidates around.

He used to be a solid republican, but he got super burned with his retirement due to the dismantlement of the system back during I think it was the bush era(?).

Honestly I wish he didn't go so hard core though, like he went so far down the hole he uses MS Now as his news source which is basically Fox News but for the other direction :\

We did everything we could to tell them this would happen. Project 2025 was out there. They choose to believe the shit peddlers over the facts, again. Now, Project 2025 is about 60% complete and the US is a joke on the world stage.

I don't care what they think anymore. They destroyed their own country and I cheer every time one of them suffers due to the shit-show they chose.

You wanted to own the libs at any cost right? Well it's time to pay up bitches.

peacepath@lemmy.world · -5 pts · 12h (4 replies)

That is exactly the mentality which has put Trump in power.

I hope a time will come when we can all calm down and talk about politics with reason rather than hate.

peacepath@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 9h (2 replies)

When who send us to the showers? The one who left Trump's movement? Or the ones still in who could be convinced out by those who left, if someone cared about them and helped them?

What good does it bring to just laught at them?

How rejecting them is different from Trump's politics of rejecting all the “not like us”?

Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 4h (1 reply)

I mean I saw the people who "had a moment of clarity" in 2007, realized that Bush was a war criminal bring led by the nose by the defence and banking industry who ruined the country. And then suffered 0 literal 0 consequences.

And I saw who they voted for 8 years later.

So ya fuck em. Their broken. Built wrong. I'm not gonna give them a moment of peace or suffer their credence. I'm not gonna listen to them soft-pedal their excuses and try to limit our potentials because "It's just like what Trump would have done."

If they want to come to our side I want them to lie. I want them to be so ashamed they invent a fictional reality and live in that. Because I don't want them on our side if they're talking about how they didn't know what he was gonna do.

peacepath@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 4h

"It is their fault if they are as they are, so they do not deserve anything."

Put who ever you want as the "they", it is still fascism.

The society you live in seems pushing its population to think that way. But no, it is not a "natural" way of thinking.

A recent post showed a study made in New York to find why maga neighborhood voted for the new mayor. The study shows how some people have clearly no political education and a very poor critical thinking capacity. You can't decently blame them for being abused, just as you can't blame the victime for the crime.

They would need help, and without it they will keep "limit your potentials".

nanometer1625@thelemmy.club · 10 pts · 22h (4 replies)

True, but also, I hope no Democrat or Democratic ally says this to someone who has left the Republican party. Just thank them for changing their mind and move on. If they are no longer voting Republican, try to keep it that way.

While I understand the sentiment (and harbor it myself) this sort of "I'm rubbing your face in it" rhetoric does nothing constructive. It isn't propaganda for would-be Trump cult survivors. It's mere pandering to those on the right side of history by sneering at "the other".

If I saw a crack in any of my MAGA-cult relative's façades or genuine walls I would leap at the opportunity to commiserate as an entry point to more reality-alignment discussion and see how far I could get.

People must stop doing harm before being taken back in as comrades but they're still human being who deserve, and must be allowed by society, the opportunity to improve themselves and their behavior.

Disallowing that leads to much worse alternatives. Barring genuine sociopathy: we seek, and are often driven by, acceptance. It's part of what soliciters of right-wing ideologies (e.g., manosphere) exploit, especially with young men, to convince them alignment with fascist theory as a way of life emotionally and sociopolitically must be within their best interest.

But let's even go so far as to discard empathy and sentiment for a moment. If we set our humanity aside and consider this strategically (transactionally) then I see this as an opportunity to potentially mitigate harm. I am going to seize that advantage. Even if I've lost hope for that particular cultist. Taking the time to be supportive of (what may only ever turn out to be) a lapse in otherwise perpetual cognitive misfire may divert their path from "worst outcome" to "unacceptable but not an active threat". I cannot effectively work with material if I find the material revolting.

I think even this colder perspective pushes us closer toward exercising empathy though. Because that's the pit in my stomach that churned injustice into compulsion for radical action. The deep-seated stark truth that every feeling creature deserves respect and the opportunity to create safety together. That the promises of authoritarian rhetoric are a perversion of literal civilization.

At possibly its most blunt and mundane: "I don't want other people abusing me, and; if I think I am the same thing other people are then it's not going to feel good, or be reasonable, for me to abuse others.

Sneering is for snobs. The snobbish turn their nose at impure things because of, at least in part, their disgust of what's stained them. Transposed onto persons directly that disgust reduces one or some of us to merely a point on which one may anchor one's rage.

I won't do that. Both because it offers no advantage in advancing even triage to response, let alone treatment, and because I find it distasteful, at best, without effort.

starelfsc2@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 1d (3 replies)

A lot of us are just tired of dealing with the actual children that compose 90% of maga, you give someone 900 warning signs and they say "lol funny angry liberals!!" You're not sneering at them for being on the wrong side of history, you're sneering at them for ignoring every single sign on purpose because they thought it wouldn't affect them. It's like people watching videos of auschwitz and then turning in their neighbor anyway to own the libs. I can see people not being willing to use kid gloves with them after that.

notabot@piefed.social · 1 pts · 1d (1 reply)

If you're tired of dealing with them, you don't even need to express empathy as the gp post so eloquently described, just don't throw it back in their faces if they show signs of breaking away, even a little bit. If you don't have the energy to respond to them and try to expand that break, maybe someone else does, but if you are hostile you'll just drive them back into the darkness and make them that much harder to ever pull away.

None of this means you have to welcome them with open arms, or even forget what they've done. Just give them a space to be less awful than they were. As the gp post said, thinking strategically we need to break away as many supporters of maga as possible, but that doesn't mean they immediately, or automatically, become allies.

starelfsc2@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 1d

I'm not even opposed to the substance of what they're saying, it's just the way they've framed it as "eye for an eye" or "I told you so" is not fair at all. The amount of horror and loss they subjected everyone else to, while ignoring and waving off every warning sign. If someone lost their family because of trump they would call this guy a monster and be even more disgusted that now he cares only because he was personally affected. That's not an "I told you so haha."

I am personally lucky enough to not be in the shoes of people who were impacted, so I try to do what you and op have said. If someone is affected though, I can say they should try and move forward and pull in someone who's learned better, but that's a huge ask to do for someone who has directly contributed to ruining parts of your life.

derek@infosec.pub · 1 pts · 20h

I'm not suggesting people engaged in evil do not deserve ire. Punch Nazis. Full stop. Neither am I suggesting we tread gingerly lest we offend. I'm asserting that constructive responses toward those open to correction align with our stated ideals and that destructive attacks which merely stroke the ego of the attacker do not.

We should not want those lost to the cult of MAGA to self-flagelate and apologize because this is not about them and words are cheap. They need to see the harm they've helped cause and start actively counter-acting that harm.

This meme is specifically directed at those who are realizing they've been conned. When someone breaks from delusion, especially delusion that has been central to identity, sharing that with anyone requires vulnerability. If hypocrisy is worth avoiding at all then its value increases wildly around such shared crossroads.

Salt in the wound only benefits the salter who enjoys inflicting useless pain in others. We ought to be better than that. Inability to do so cannot justify the indulgence of cruelty.

i.e., being tired of their bullshit confers no license to vindictive prejudicial lashings.

peacepath@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 9h

Some of them aren't, it is hard to know how much since our position usually attract both sides' hate. And so those among them, who live with them, but share our view, must live in a constant terror.

InvalidName2@lemmy.zip · -4 pts · 1d (1 reply)

You are as much the enemy as they are.

Regardless of your personal feelings, it's 100% true: Give your opponent a golden bridge on which to retreat.

Maybe they are reformed and truly see that you were right. Maybe they aren't. Maybe they actually are incredibly stupid and will do the same thing again the first chance they get. But if they're ideologically aligned with your same goals at the moment, then you better open up and make some space for them because I guarantee that your actual enemies are busy doing everything they can to make the path back to the dark side as easy and non-judgemental as possible.

starelfsc2@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 1d

If your goal is a short term win, yeah. For long term you're better off messaging to those who would actually be democrats, rather than appealing to those who buy into the newest snake oil and don't care who it hurts so long as it's not them.
