It is official; Netcraft now confirms: Linux is dying
One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered Linux community when IDC confirmed that Linux market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming close on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that Linux has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. Linux is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.
You don't need to be a Kreskin to predict Linux' future. The hand writing is on the wall: Linux faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for Linux because Linux is dying. Things are looking very bad for Linux. As many of us are already aware, Linux continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.
If you manage to run TempleOS on the bare metal, your CPU and fans will be stuck at 100% until you turn it off or your CPU overheats.
Run it in a VM and you won't have that problem.
You can argue that anything above Ring -3 is virtual, but "if I do this my CPU's going to die" is a pretty reasonable dividing line between "technically" and "actually".
oh no, making linux usable for more people who stick with windows because their games don't run. that is so bad and definitely not what we want at all, apparently. linux bad now, because epic and nvidia exist.
Pretty well during those rare moments where I still play. The GPU I use is unfortunately EOL (GTX 1080 Ti), but it's nice and smooth. Basically native performance.
I was honestly tempted to do this for League because that was the only reason I was keeping windows around for so long but I was unsure if there would still be some latency even with pass through turned on
Why would I want to play any of those games that actively harm the gaming industry as a whole through their predatory and addictive designs and that foster the most toxic of communities?
Also, Genshin works via Proton or Lutris. So, image is wrong too lol.
Destiny 2 wasn't as bad as the others imo, still very predatory with microtransactions though. But, Marathon is the "better" version according to their owners, right?
These games all explicitly exclude Linux by way of anti-cheat. EAC and BattlEye both have functional Linux versions of their anti-cheats but choose not to enable them. The others are kernel-level.

wyrmsbane@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 1d
Wait, actually?
luciferofastora@feddit.org · 15 pts · 1d
Read again. Not "runs destiny" (as in the game) but "runs your destiny" (emphasis mine). It's a joke about faith controlling your fate.
WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 23h
Unfortunately, if can only run the personal destiny of the user, as it is divinely inspired. /s

Now I have to move to FreeBSD...
Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de · 19 pts · 1d
Go to Haiku. Maximum incompatibility but still with a slither of daily usefulness.
DastardlyJames@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 20h
I’m moving to Temple OS, it doesn’t have Internet, so there wouldn’t be a way to download Genshin Impact.

I use the Heroic Games launcher, with which you can play your Epic Games Store games. Works absolutely flawlessly.
dreamy@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 21h
Nah, it runs perfectly fine. This is a nice launcher if you want to test for yourself:

Unfortunately, Epic store will soon be available on Linux soon too. Geforce Now already is :(

But I still don't want it
auzy1@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1d
Yeah you do.
Haven't you heard. Epic games and nvidia really care about all of us so much

I'm pretty sure that the comment, as well as OP's meme are jokes.

Totally real.. obviously
And I totally don't use steamos as my main gaming console. Definitely didn't sell my quest 2's and preorder the steam frame too
psx_crab@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 1d
Geforce Now? More like Geforce Later because i don't use Nvidia.
ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1d
But not on FreeBSD!
Now I want to see a Bringus Studios video titled "Gaming on FreeBSD, because Linux now runs Fortnite".

CriticalMiss@lemmy.world · 28 pts · 1d
ok but what if my ps5 runs Linux
ryannathans@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1d
Ps5 is based on FreeBSD, unless you've literally jailbroken it and replaced the OS with linux
CriticalMiss@lemmy.world · 28 pts · 1d
yes, the latter
Kolanaki@pawb.social · 9 pts · 1d
The latter has recently been made possible if you have a super old, unupdated PS5 that still has the launch firmware.
Magnum@infosec.pub · 2 pts · 23h
I'm out here on my Wii running Linux Desktop
ryannathans@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1d

Neither was without hassles, but it played fine

Huh I was pretty sure I played apex legends on Linux briefly, years ago.

Yes, they changed the anti cheat on it and explicitly blocked Linux a few years ago

Conclusion: Linux wins
expletivedeleted@lemmy.zip · 0 pts · 1d
Linux can run all of these things. You have to actually understand Linux.
This is like, "Without saying it, let me explain I know nothing about Linux and I blame it because I didn't rtfm"
MyNameIsRichard@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 23h
Or you have to give a shit about playing shitty games. Any way, Linux still wins.
expletivedeleted@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 21h
I don't know what you are talking about. I run EndeavorOS. I game just fine. Also have a SteamDeck.
PattyMcB@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 18h
The games in the list are games that most of us wouldn't want to play regardless of platform support.
HeHoXa@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 15h
As another commenter here implied, there's nothing that doesn't run on someone's Linux environment. Probably even on their slow cooker.
popekingjoe@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1d
Does it count if I run destiny 2 through a VM with passthrough and a bootleg copy of Windows?
lordziv@lemmy.nz · 4 pts · 1d
How's that working out for you?
popekingjoe@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d
Pretty well during those rare moments where I still play. The GPU I use is unfortunately EOL (GTX 1080 Ti), but it's nice and smooth. Basically native performance.
lordziv@lemmy.nz · 2 pts · 17h
I was honestly tempted to do this for League because that was the only reason I was keeping windows around for so long but I was unsure if there would still be some latency even with pass through turned on
godsammitdam@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 16h
Why would I want to play any of those games that actively harm the gaming industry as a whole through their predatory and addictive designs and that foster the most toxic of communities?

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 4 pts · 1d
Some of them might be able to run just fine in Proton though I haven't tested any of them. Games that use EAC already run in Linux that way.
scutiger@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 21h
These games all explicitly exclude Linux by way of anti-cheat. EAC and BattlEye both have functional Linux versions of their anti-cheats but choose not to enable them. The others are kernel-level.
Genshin Impact apparently does run fine, though.
