it's funny, we know what you're talking about. We can't say what your talking about as that may involve a meeting with the SS if you are american.

Funny thing is, you could mean Schutzstaffel, or Secret Service. No way to know in modern America.

They may have also meant using the 25th amendment to remove the president like their legal system allows for if Congress and the Senate weren't completely bought by the fascist billionaire class that owns the presidency as well.

Berengaria_of_Navarre@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 211d (7 replies)

That's not going to happen.

GalacticSushi@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 211d (6 replies)

JD would love it though. Guy cannot wait to get promoted and gets a lil pep in his step every time Trump has yet another mystery hospital visit. Literally the only upside of Trump making it through his full term is that JD wouldn't get the satisfaction of being president.

Alpha71@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 211d (5 replies)

Except JD has nowhere near the level of charisma that trump had.

SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social · 9 pts · 211d (3 replies)

I think we need a better word. Charisma feels so weird in this context. It's more like dung beetles being attracted to shit, or roaches slurping up rotten food waste. Trump's got no rizz. The shit-king attracts his children.

You have freedom of speech, just not freedom after speech.

IncogCyberSpaceUser@piefed.social · 6 pts · 211d

Wouldn't that apply anywhere? Even in North Korea you're physically able to say whatever you want. What happens after is the problem.

nao@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 210d

freedom of speech does not imply freedom before, during or after speech

SparroHawc@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 210d

All freedom of speech means is that it isn't a crime to say things (with some exceptions such as plotting violence, which can and will get you thrown in jail). It doesn't mean it won't land you in hot water otherwise - such as getting the attention of the FBI.

Vance does not have the cult leader credentials. If he pulled a "Let's take Greenland" out of his ass, he wouldn't have the same spell to keep 30% of approval.

That's why many authoritarian regimes fall after the death of the charismatic leader.

And yes, the root cause of Trump appearing in the political scene go beyond himself and point towards structural problems of US society. But now he has this power, it's a fact that his death will cause a great loss to the political power of the MAGA movement, and it'll be very hard for any successor to keep this coalition in power, specially considering they're already fighting among themselves.

NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 210d

Congress was envisioned to jealously guard their own power. They have been eager to abdicate their power and responsibility to the Executive to avoid political fallout (so that they can stay in office capitalizing off the position) for decades before Trump was on the scene.

The Supreme Court has absolutely no legal oversight, and even publication of their corruption has not moved them to impose any code of ethics on themselves.

The two parties both conspire to deliver us to the same monied interests, just with different flavors of icing on top.

Trump is the culmination of the rot in the system, he is not the source of it. There is no realistic way for the system to go on, even if Trump keels over tomorrow. Regardless of if Vance can command the cult when Trump dies, the system must be greatly reformed/ overhauled.

P1k1e@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 210d (2 replies)

...I can't fucking believe anyone considers that dimwit charismatic

Lutoures@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 210d

"Charismatic leadership" is an expression often used in political theory to describe leaders who are able to agrue a personal following and use it for political gain, in a level unlike that of most politicians, to whom support is way more conditional.

It' doesn't necessarily mean the same as "approachable" , or anything that "charismatic" usually is used to describe. It's been used to describe figures as awful as Hitler or Mussolini.

i_ben_fine@midwest.social · 2 pts · 210d

Thunderbird4@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 211d

I swear, these are every bit as dumb as maga’s conspiracy theories. If that’s where they wanted the flag for the picture, why didn’t they just start with the flag there? Why lower it just in time? Was the Qanon flag lowering operator on the radio with the photographer coordinating the position and timing? Or, just maybe, big-ass flags that are suspended from cranes by only the top two corners just kind of move up and down in the wind.

Do you really believe that the same stupid motherfuckers who ended up having a press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping were capable of staging an assassination attempt where two other people actually died and the only gap in their performance was a ham-fisted flag maneuver for the photo op?

They've just been making innumerable wacky excuses since then to try and make us believe that having 35 rifles and 122 handguns was perfectly normal.

The front page of every newspaper in the country has never so desperately needed an obituary on it.

Now I know what you might be thinking: never? What about that one time in the 1940s? Not even then, because even if that fucker LIVED he was on the cusp of capture. He was no longer a threat even before his obituary showed up

This time I have no faith or hope that the threat may actually be nullified at all otherwise.

It's NOT illegal to form an alternative government of the United States as a micronation with a distinct name, flag, anthem and coat of arms and such (and you can still pay taxes to the current US government and call that "aid"). Forming a micronation is NOT the same as being a sovereign citizen.

SparroHawc@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 210d (1 reply)

The problem is that you can't form a micronation out of land that belongs to a nation already, unless that nation cedes it to you. Until that point, you are still subject to the laws of wherever you are.

To anyone reading this: Russian, Chinese, (even American) bots and agitators are astroturfing all over social media to get America to spin out into more violence. It's been well documented for almost a decade now. Please think about "who" (or what) is posting all these calls to violence.

Defending oneself from being attacked is different than actively committing violence unprovoked. Please just think about this. Having said all that, every American should still arm themselves and know how to use it.

zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 29 pts · 212d (1 reply)

TherapyGary@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 211d (2 replies)

The state itself is structural, institutionalized violence. Resistance to an inherently violent system is never unprovoked

zd9@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 211d (1 reply)

colin@lemmy.uninsane.org · 2 pts · 211d (1 reply)

I mean you personally or close family/friends being in illegal imminent danger of bodily harm, not just generally something you saw on social media that made you mad.

if social media oversamples for the number of people in imminent danger, what's your method to avoid undersampling? because outside of those who would trust you with their life and call on you to protect them, the people around you who fall into this category aren't going to just casually mention "i'm in danger from the state" for what I really hope should be obvious reasons.

zd9@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 210d

To avoid undersampling, look at what's happening in your local community. Be aware of shit going down, support those who need food, shelter, protection. And in cases where necessary (there's a huge decision making process at this point), use defensive force when legally able.

Trying to appease the orange paedo does fuck all because he's basically a schoolyard bully. Give him an inch and he'll then rape your daughter then blame you for doing it. So the appeasement option is off the table.
