Trump to skip son’s wedding that he labeled a ‘no-win’ for him: report

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-son-wedding-skip-iran-war-b2981938.html

Donald Trump will not attend his eldest son’s wedding, reportedly taking place in the Bahamas this weekend.

After telling reporters Thursday he was going to “try to make” the intimate ceremony between Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson, but that it was “not good timing” because of the Iran war, Trump confirmed he won’t attend.

“He’d like me to go,” Trump said. “I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.’”

“That’s one I can’t win on,” Trump said in the Oval Office when asked if he planned to attend his eldest son’s wedding. “If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed by the fake news, of course.”

Nearly 12 weeks into the Iran war, Trump is facing record-low approval ratings amid the public’s growing discontent over the high cost of gasoline, groceries and other everyday expenses – all impacted by the president’s war in the Middle East.

Of all the things the buffoon does that he rightly gets killed for, taking time off to go to his son’s wedding isn’t one of them.

It’s way worse that you’re skipping it bud

He probably has to stay close to the white house for medical reasons.

Reminds me of when they released that voice-mail in the run up to the 2020 election to try to smear Biden. You could feel Biden's compassion in the voice-mail. The right just doesn't understand what that is or thinks it's a weakness.

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 24 pts · 110d (2 replies)

Can confirm. Grew up in a conservative household. Fathers showing empathy to their children was a completely foreign concept.

In some ways I'm still fucked up for life from that. So many healthy perspectives and behaviors that will simply never come naturally to me. The formative years of cognitive development are important.

My parents have learned a lot since then, so even though it was really hard for me to forgive them and took many years, they're still in my life and I'm grateful for them. But to this day I'm still unable to talk about my feelings or really even anything remotely important to me with them. It's just basic pleasantries and simple observations, and even then I have to be really careful and overthink how I phrase it, still walking in eggshells to keep the peace. And yes, that is a drastic improvement over how it used to be.

You and me both pal.

Therapy does wonders. Im glad youve got them in your life, as difficult as it can be. Im still working on it.

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 3 pts · 109d

Yeah, I've spent time in therapy. I learned new skills and coping techniques and all that, but it can't restructure the deepest patterns embedded in my neurons.

Nor undo the social harm incurred by not learning basic emotional intelligence until my mid-twenties...

Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works · 24 pts · 110d

I thought he was implying that going to another location would drastically increase his chances of conditions incompatible with existence.

kurmudgeon@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 110d

There's no money in it for him

Professorozone@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 110d

Yeah, I mean he's played golf like 44 times or something.

rayyy@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 109d

Can you imagine the outrage of the right wing if Biden or Obama did that.

i_am_not_a_robot@discuss.tchncs.de · 63 pts · 110d (8 replies)

He has time to golf but not time for his child's wedding.

fizzle@quokk.au · 32 pts · 110d (5 replies)

Thats what i dont get.

Fly in on the big chopper, someone says "i do", and he flies off again. Less time than it takes him to take a shit.

He's making a bigger deal out of it by not attending.

grue@lemmy.world · 27 pts · 110d (3 replies)

That's a good point: at first glance it sounds like a big deal because it's "international travel," but the Bahamas are basically right next to mar-a-lago anyway so (depending exactly which island the wedding is on) it probably actually is within chopper distance.

He's the commander in chief and has access to Marine One and the entire Navy. This is not a logistics problem.

Gumus@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 109d (1 reply)

Not that anyone would even care at this point, but I don't think the commander in chief should use the Navy to get to a private event.

fizzle@quokk.au · 2 pts · 109d

The helicopter POTUS travels in is operated by "the navy".

ayyy@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 109d

“It’s not good for me” to a son’s wedding.

Spoken like a true narcissist

I’d almost feel bad for them all being raised by generations of narcissists if they weren’t all falling so willfully easily into the narcissistic hole themselves.

Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world · 31 pts · 110d (3 replies)

I mean I guess he kinda is in a no-win situation, on the other hand it's a no-win situation of his own making. He chose to go in on Iran, now he can suffer the consequences of that.

Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de · 14 pts · 110d

Nah, iran will be done right after the wedding is over, this wasn't a distraction from Epstein, it was a ruse to get out of the wedding.

Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 110d (1 reply)

Even with the war, he would get a pass from the majority of the public for going to his kids wedding.

Although, now that he said he was going to skip, and he referred to his first born son as “someone he’s known for a long time,” he’s going to get roasted either way.

The no-win situation was caused by his inability to show affection to anyone other than himself.

Spacehooks@reddthat.com · 4 pts · 110d

Colbert used to roast the crap out if trumps in ability to love his sons. Im so upset he's gone and wont do a skit on this.

He could literally fly there for a couple hours, and fly back. I wouldn't even be THAT upset at the cost, but at least he would resemble a human being for a change.

There is not a single cell in his disgusting body that would even remotely contemplate that.

right? If he could go to China he could sure attend his son's wedding? It appears there's been a decline in health recently

i'm so sad

BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world · 5 pts · 109d

Such a burn. You know the bride was all excited to have a White House wedding, and they had to tell her that the optics would be bad. But at least the President will be at her wedding, and she'll be able to tell her children and grandchildren about it, right? Nah, he's got better things to do. Does he even know her name? Or is she just "the new one?"

SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 109d

Won't matter. He's invincible. Shit just rolls off him and onto the Democrats. This is the media's doing.

"While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so. I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the president wrote Friday on Truth Social.

yakko@feddit.uk · 5 pts · 110d

I could do my son's wedding, but, unfortunately, the only way to make that about me, is to proclaim I can't attend, to the whole United States of the World! Also, I'm running out of commas again, somehow, and have to go get more.

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 110d

So, how much you wanna bet he wasn't actually invited?

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 110d

I have a thing called Iran and other things.’”

“That’s one I can’t win on,”

Not sure of the timing of those two statements, but reading them right after the other had me nodding my head.

The Qlown can cut and run from his war of choice and I suppose oil may drift downwards. And I'm sure a lot of idiots will forget and/or forgive him for it come the midterms.

But yeah, I'm not sure how he's going to "win" the Iran thing. It's not like that Venezuela kidnapping thing or however he imagines Cuba is going to go. Same with stealing Greenland. Those last two are probably going to go badly, too, but Iran has proven to be an absolute clusterfuck for him so far.
