A vile worm.

Edit: Makes me sick. Here are some real anti fascists. My dad and his 2 brothers during WWII.

"Top hole. Bally Jerry pranged his kite right in the how's your father. Hairy blighter, dicky-birdied, feathered back on his Sammy, took a waspy, flipped over on his Betty Harper's and caught his can in the Bertie."

Isn't it, though.

I'm a lifetime VFW auxiliary member in a Red area. Stolen valor is a big fucking deal around here. New ammo added

Archimedes@sh.itjust.works · 21 pts · 3d (4 replies)

I'm pretty sure red supporters are willing to donate valor for the Führer.

rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 3d (3 replies)

I don't understand what you're trying to say. Stolen valor means that someone is pretending that they were a member of the military. It's extremely disrespectful to people that actually worked in the military, regardless of political leaning

Carl@anarchist.nexus · 26 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Trump has also posted images of himself as Jesus Christ, which is extremely disrespectful to the conservative Christians that make up a large part of his voting base. And yet that wasn’t a dealbreaker for them.

The point is that “disrespectful” isn’t enough. Trump wasn’t lying when he said he could murder someone in the middle of the street, and still get votes. His voting base is that entrenched.

rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 3d

It isn't enough for him to just be disrespectful. You have to confront them with it in an honest, in-person conversation. Deprogramming is a process, not just a one-off thing. That's what I'm going to be using this post for.

Carmakazi@piefed.social · 22 pts · 3d

There's a laundry list of reprehensible things that should have snapped Republicans out of their stupor, even with their different value set. His "Losers and Suckers" remark about the Arlington dead was from his first term.

They don't care. He's given them permission to be reprehensible to the people they hate and they will give him a pass for absolutely everything in return. It's a cult.

NotSteve_@lemmy.ca · 29 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Unrelated but I hate social media posts that end in "do you agree?". It just reeks of engagement bot and /r/AskReddit is filled with it

inb4: i didnt vote for him - then im not talking about you

The current literacy crisis in a nutshell. Literacy is much more than simply being able to read individual words. A large part of literacy is being able to look at a work, and infer the intended audience. And most of the time, the target audience is not “me”.

But algorithmic feeds have effectively destroyed our ability to detect when something isn’t aimed at us. We have become so accustomed to having everything in our feeds laser-focused to our specific interests and worldviews. Before algorithmic feeds were common, people would see something not aimed at them and they would move the fuck on. They would go “meh, not for me” and keep going. But now people tend to get hostile because they feel like they’re being left out, or being singled out.

And we have literally started seeing it reshape the way our media is written. News articles come with blatant “this is only meant for {target audience}” disclaimers. Recipes come with disclaimers. Opinion articles come with disclaimers. Tutorials come with disclaimers. Maybe not always stated so bluntly, but the idea is the same.

Let’s say I make a TikTok about the proper form for throwing a baseball. It’s focused on muscle groups, limb placement, the way you balance as you proceed through a throw, proper follow-through, etc… Obviously aimed at people who are already comfortable with (and are capable of) throwing a ball. But I’ll still need to add some sort of brief cutaway “and this is only really meant for the people looking to perfect their form. If you can’t throw a ball due to disability, or if you’re just not interested in baseball, you can probably just keep scrolling” disclaimer. Because if I forget that disclaimer, I’ll be inundated with all manner of “{but I have a shoulder injury,} {but I’m in a wheelchair,} {but I’m blind in one eye and don’t have good depth perception,} {baseball is stupid,} {I have a bad back and can’t rotate my trunk,} what about me” comments.

TikTok calls it “Bean Soup Theory”, because of a (now infamous) post about a bean soup recipe. The comments were full of angry “but what if I don’t like beans? What should I substitute instead of beans? What about meeeee” comments. If you don’t like beans, don’t make bean soup. It seems obvious. But people have literally lost the ability to infer when something is (and more importantly, when it isn’t) aimed at themselves. Since algorithmic feeds are tailored specifically to our interests and worldviews, the default expectation has become “I am the target audience.” Even though the vast majority of media isn’t aimed at you, that expectation still bleeds into how you interact with the media you encounter.

Anyways, \rant. It’s just something I’ve been seeing more and more these days, and it has become a constant reminder that literacy rates are plummeting.

I had no idea this was a thing. So strange, and somewhat unsettling.

heartSagan5@lemmy.zip · 25 pts · 3d (9 replies)

Yes, it is insulting; however, many veterans also voted for the twit.

Many who serve aren't heroic, they had no other options in their small, backwards, stupid towns

They don't immediately get smarter and virtuous simply because they were in the military

JensSpahnpasta@feddit.org · 2 pts · 2d

Many who serve aren’t heroic, they had no other options in their small, backwards, stupid towns

There also is nothing heroic about the wars the United States has been fighting in the last decades. Fighting some forever war in the middle east because of George W. Bush is not heroic.

SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 2d

They don't immediately get smarter and virtuous simply because they were in the military

Sometimes they get worse, and commit war crimes ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 3d (5 replies)

They were not smart but they knew what fascism was and did not want that for their country.

chiliedogg@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3d (3 replies)

Trump is old, but he's not "avoided the WWII draft" old. He was a draft dodger in Vietnam.

Smoogs@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3d

yea, i dont understand why that one needed draft.

still, we all know he didnt escape it for the right reasons. he is a coward regardless

Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Huh? I guess you are lost. I know he draft dodged Vietnam. My mother made me watch the death stats every day. I guess it was a carryover from World War II. I was making a point about the far past And people’s thoughts then. Not now.

chiliedogg@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d

You were talking about drafted vets from Trump's time were opposing fascism. That's wasn't what Vietnam was about.

FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3d

Have you seen the hick idiots in the US military?

They're fine with fascism because they're racist cunts

eatCasserole@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 3d

Ah yes, "freedom", that's totally what the US military is pursuing! 🤪

velma@sh.itjust.works · 18 pts · 3d

Add it onto the pile.

DarkFuture@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 3d

North Korean levels of propaganda.

What else should we expect from fascists though.

DandomRude@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 3d

It’s amazing that this militaristic national pride is still a thing. If there were even the slightest truth to it, U.S. soldiers would simply refuse to serve this despicable regime.

But they don’t; instead, they’re waging a war that violates international law in alliance with the butchers from Israel to provide support for genocide—and in the process, they’re bombing schools and civilian infrastructure.

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@anarchist.nexus · 12 pts · 3d

Fuck Trump but there's no honor in being an AmeriKKKan soldier

StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 3d

President Trump is relentless in pursuit of our freedom.

They're right, but only because he's relentlessly pursuing removing them.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 11 pts · 3d

This man thing is so deplorable, comparing him to worms, maggots, or even shit is insulting to the worms, maggots, and shit. He is his own classification of awful.

collapse_already@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Remember when the Republicans were up in arms about John Kerry's military valor? Swift boat veterans accusing him of stolen valor? Now we have the molester-in-chief stealing valor thrice weekly and the hypocritical cowards keep their removed mouths shut.

jtrek@startrek.website · 8 pts · 3d

Conservatives don't care about truth or consistency. It's just in-group loyalty and out-group hostility.

If you accuse them of being hypocrites, it won't land because to them they aren't. They have maintained in-group loyalty the whole time.

switcheroo@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 3d

MAGAts don't care. If they cared about vets at all, then we'd take better care of them when they came back from whatever war the trumpstein class sent them to die for...

MAGAts also love to cosplay as tough guys. Look at the ICE pissant cowards as example.

It's drawn his mouth closed too. In every single undoctored photo I've ever seen of him, he has his mouth open like someone has photoshopped the cock out of the frame.

We can hate Trump without resorting to homophobia. Sucking cock wouldn’t make Trump a worse (or better) person.

Who said anything about homophobia? Simple facts my dude.

While I disagree with the concept of a military—beyond a self-defence force—it's the hypocrisy that gets me.

DupaCycki@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Okay, all of the usual propaganda aside... How does that even begin to make any sense?

Aren't Americans already supposed to be free? The freeest on the planet even? And if not, what's Iran got to do with that? What could Iran possibly do to take away Americans' freedom? And how is bombing their civilians and civilian infrastructure going to help with that?

I have so many questions here. Have I fallen for the bait and wasted about 210 seconds of my life trying to make some sense of this?

cabb@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 3d

The claim I've seen, and maybe it has been walked back, is that Iran has developed ballistic missiles capable of reaching the mainland US and is close to creating a nuclear weapon, presumably to put on such a missile. There's been no evidence shown of such missiles or their launch sites. The evidence of the nuclear weapon is the same as the last so many times.
