Swede here, no one in Sweden has ever served meatballs with white sauce of any kind (no idea what it is) and dill... Highly doubt the meatball ingredients are even close to correct either.

n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca · 30 pts · 1d (3 replies)

It's Minnesota, they are more scandanavian than Scandinavia, I don't trust you

FiskFisk33@startrek.website · 21 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Boo, Swedish meatball sandwiches have meatballs and beetroot salad.

bitwolf@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 1h

That looks so good. Definitely another Swedish meatballs I've tried. That looks 100x better.

FiskFisk33@startrek.website · 8 pts · 9h

An American claiming America is better at scandinaviaing than Scandinavia, is the most American thing I've heard in my life.

AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 13h (7 replies)

Any food in the US that's qualified with will typically baffle anyone of said nationality.

Soggy@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 9h (5 replies)

That's true in every country, you should see "pizza Americana" or "American fried rice".

fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 6h (1 reply)

Or you know, watch the comment section of most Spanish omelette or paella videos. I'm there on the omelette comments btw, it's not that fucking hard why does everyone fuck it up.

Soggy@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1h

They're only fucking it up if they're trying and failing to make a specific thing, not just because they thing they make offends you.

marzhall@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 9h (2 replies)

Hell, it's true just traveling across the US. Try "Phildadelphia Cheeseteak" a few hours' drive out of Philly. They'll ask if you want marinara.

Soggy@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 9h (1 reply)

Accurate but I was trying to expand beyond "Americans using food words wrong". (Also, "wrong" is culture purity nonsense in this context. Food and language evolve and that's fine.)

marzhall@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 9h

You're right that prescriptivism is fundamentally nonsense, but it's been more than a decade and I still put airquotes on "pizza" when referring to it around Pittsburgh, because I don't want to mislead visiting relatives

ServantOfRa@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 10h

Can verify, extremely baffled.

kieron115@startrek.website · 11 pts · 1d

I'm guessing it's a white gravy instead of a brown gravy, so colored from cream and flour. I've only ever had brown gravy and lingonberries with my swedish meatballs, but then I've also only ever had them at Ikea which I'm sure isn't the best representation.

whaleross@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1d (2 replies)

If you served this in Sweden you'd get angry side glances and passive aggressive snorts.

01189998819991197253@infosec.pub · 9 pts · 1d

I'm assuming the same can be said about USA with this particular sandwich lol

VibeSurgeon@piefed.social · 1 pts · 1h

My bet would be just plain confusion - "why are you calling them Swedish meatballs if you don't make them like meatballs are made in Sweden?"

SirHaxalot@nord.pub · 7 pts · 1d

bet it’s the same cum they put on their cinnamon buns

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 1d

Looks like a Polish thing, pulpety w sosie koperkowym.

kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 15h

Seems like they probably skipped the broth. Looks basically just beschemel, though, being generous, it may have a bit of mustard, sour cream, and/or some herbs mixed in.

Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world · 62 pts · 1d

That's much more than mildly.

slampisko@lemmy.world · 44 pts · 23h (3 replies)

I mean, it's called a meatball sandwich, not a meatballs sandwich. You're lucky you got two of them! /s

NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social · 8 pts · 18h

It looks like there's 3 to me. Practically gluttony.

_stranger_@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1h

I ate at a restaurant that did this once. The kids menu had "spaghetti with meatball" which they got a kick out of.

It was the size of my fist. They served my single-digit age children like a 3/4lb meatball each. They still tell tales of the legendary meatball to this day.

MaliciousCompliance

Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world · 28 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Well it’s got one meatball. Serves you right for not ordering the meatballs sandwich.

CobraCommander@quokk.au · 7 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Looks like 3 meatballs to me?

PR3CiSiON@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1d

No, those are meat ellipsoids. Only one of them qualifies as a ball.

snausagesinablanket@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 1d

Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca · 20 pts · 1d

That's not a sandwich. That's a piece of bread that got fucking trafficked.

ramius345@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 23h (2 replies)

That's just some bread with jizz on it

Senseless@feddit.org · 3 pts · 22h (1 reply)

And pickles! Jizz 'n Pickles would be a wild band name.

Pat_Riot@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 15h

Must be a ska band

Sharkticon@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 1d

Frankly I think this would justify homicide

ServantOfRa@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 10h

Where to even start... Pathetic, overpriced and I doubt that the quality of the 'meat' balls meet even supermarket quality, or even IKEA. The garnish should be beetroot salad and the bread a baguette. At a minimum.

A crime against common decency, a culinary affront and a cultural offence.

tigermountain@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 9h (1 reply)

So someone decided that this is the sandwich they would sell to the public and said this is fine?

heartSagan5@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 7h

If it had more meatballs, sauce and such, it has a chance. But the picture is sad and dismal, why not complain?

CombatWombat@feddit.online · 6 pts · 1d (5 replies)

Also mildly infuriating is the lack of crosspost button so I can add this to !mls@lemmy.world — I guess it only appears when the post originates from a piefed instance?

OryxAndCake@slrpnk.net · 8 pts · 1d

There's federation issues between piefed and lemmy currently. It's not like this normally.

cannedtuna@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1d (3 replies)

Crossposts is definitely an option for Lemmy posts as well. What client are you using?

CombatWombat@feddit.online · 1 pts · 1d (2 replies)

The pwa

cannedtuna@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Sorry, I have no clue what that is. Mobile or web?

If it’s mobile it could be hidden behind the share button. If it’s web… idk tbh. I mostly use mobile. But I’ve got both Piefed and Lemmy accounts (been trying out Piefed on occasion) and I’ve been able to crosspost between the two, but I did notice federation is a bit slow

CombatWombat@feddit.online · 2 pts · 1d

PWA is short for progressive web app. It's the website plus a little extra browser magic so you can save it to your phone's home screen.

criticon@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 1d

This would be "midly" if it was a $5 gas station sub

southsamurai@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 1d

Assuming that's real, it would be totally justified to throw it against the wall and demand a real sandwich

Speiser0@feddit.org · 4 pts · 12h
Syndication@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 1d

Nahhhh please tell me the guy bought it back and asked for a refund, because that's terrible even for stadium food lmao

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 4 pts · 1d

To be fair, it only said "meatball" and there's at least two of them instead of only 1.

underscores@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 7h

that bread looks like foam

adarza@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 1d

mildly?

HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d

Feeding this little is a war crime in more civilized societies.

ColdWater@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 2h

This might give you botulism

Cum_Rag@fedinsfw.app · 3 pts · 15h

Guess beef prices have hit everyone

n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 1d

Lol

razen@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 8h

What the heck is this shit!!just make ur own at this point

RBWells@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 9h

What is that even supposed to be? Even if the bread was full of whatever that is it would look disturbing.

_lilith@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

no no that's a mistake, they can fix it or take it back that's just insulting

DarkCloud@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d

So exotic!

TIEPilot@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d

I dislike shrinkflation, but this is egregious!
