I honestly hate these "theories" because while it's partially true I'm as left as it gets and I hate septum piercings. I'm not gonna shame anyone for getting one I just personally hate them and hate how prevalent they've become.
I don't mind most piercings and have several tattoos myself but there's like 4 types of piercings and tattoo placements that just put me off. Doesn't mean I'm a fuckin pedophile.

The Septum Ring Theory is the social observation and slang that finds a pattern between women who wear septum piercing and a certain set of personality traits like being chronically online and holding exaggerated leftist views.
It's frequently used as an insult in comments of sexist / misandrist women who try to disguise their hate as "wokeness" or social justice.
There's an alternativedefinition that was later created by people that felt called out by this slang that claims it's the theory that some men dislike women with septum piercing because you need to be over 18 to legally obtain it.

Laws for piercings and tattoos vary widely by state, in the U.S. Some states allow anything with a signed parent or guardian consent form. That doesn't mean you could find an artist to do the procedure, but legally, it could happen.
I don't have a single piercing in my body but as someone who has had a very high number of injuries, cuts, bruises and other painful events the question always forms: why?
I’m always injuring myself in some way or another. Piercing is pain that I choose. I like the aesthetic as well. The rush one gets after the needle goes through is quite something.
If a septum piercing is done correctly (and you have average anatomy), it shouldn't be very painful and doesn't touch any bone/hard cartilage because there's what's called a "sweet spot" inside your nose underneath the hard cartilage that's thin and soft that the piercing should go through.

Yeah, I think most alternative aesthetic decisions tend to be signifiers of queerness to others. Subtle ways that we tell others that we're accepting.
