His statement:

Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip · 34 pts · 21h (1 reply)

God I love to see people centering the need for the liberation for the oppressed rather than any of the other shit, fucking well written statement.

I appreciate this but also it is missing a middle section about a 15 year old child being killed while trying to rush to help an aide worker. Muhammad Al Zinati and Sherif Lubbad respectively.

NEZ27@lemmy.zip · 15 pts · 21h (3 replies)

Could be thousands of obituaries, but that can't be the middle of every comment on the subject

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 18h (2 replies)

I think they're saying that the full statement had that and this is not the full statement?

Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 19 pts · 18h

Correct, I wasn’t trying to minimize or create any discourse. Just noted that I went to the source and read the statement again and noticed a portion missing. Instead of just pointing that out it felt more appropriate to give some more air time to the names that I did learn from the original source. They all are deserving of recognition and acknowledgement. I had no intention of speaking negatively of the user that graciously shared what they did nor minimize the countless other victims, just wanted to speak the names of those who were mentioned in a respectful way.

NEZ27@lemmy.zip · 10 pts · 11h

Ahh thanks for the clarification

lookitsjustin@lemmy.ca · 117 pts · 1d (72 replies)

Worth noting that Macklemore knows Kraft won’t match it. Makes it even more of a boss move.

thallamabond@lemmy.world · 118 pts · 1d (65 replies)

I did not expect it, but he did match it.

https://www.tmz.com/2026/09/16/robert-kraft-doubles-macklemore-palestine-donation/

Lets not forget that Robert Kraft is in the Epstein files

lookitsjustin@lemmy.ca · 64 pts · 1d (57 replies)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I guess I was wrong.

So… this only makes me more confused, though. He shuts down Macklemore because he doesn’t want Macklemore saying “Free Palestine” in his stadium, and then turns around and supports Palestinian causes?

Christ, I must be missing something here.

dastanktal@lemmy.ml · 83 pts · 1d (3 replies)

Boils down to Robert Kraft did not expect the PR shit show that started because he kicked Macklemore out. This blew up super fucking fast and well outside of the control of what they expected. Ed Sheeran is scrambling too.

This looks really bad. Even Jesse Walters from Fox News is like, "he kicked him out for saying free Palestine?" He then went on to defend Robert Kraft, claiming he can kick him out for whatever reason, but even he seemed incredulous about the reason that Macklemore was kicked out.

Robert Kraft does not want this to continue to blow up because if every fucking artist besides a few of them suddenly start refusing to go to his stadium, that's gonna look bad. This gives him an out, saying, well, I donated two million dollars after the fact So it doesn't look like he's directly supporting genocide.

It's obvious to those of us who pay attention, but to anybody who's not familiar with Robert Kraft, this potentially creates an out. It all about the pr message.

lookitsjustin@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 1d (2 replies)

It would seem that your analysis is the correct one.

dastanktal@lemmy.ml · 16 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Yeah, it basically boils down to PR and Robert Kraft trying to control the message. I'm not sure why he's trying to control the message. He's not giving a shit about it before, given how open he is about supporting Israel and how much money he's donated to Israel before But this clearly rattled him.

I speculated about the artist boycott, but I mean, it could also boil down to people just boycotting him for not allowing free speech, which is a lightning rod issue in the United States.

Or maybe it just spiraled so fast out of control that it just spooked him. Ultimately, $2 million dollars for him is a chump change. Hard to know at this point, unfortunately.

zurohki@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 22h

I’m not sure why he’s trying to control the message. He’s not giving a shit about it before, given how open he is about supporting Israel and how much money he’s donated to Israel before But this clearly rattled him.

But now bad things are happening to him so they matter.

thallamabond@lemmy.world · 41 pts · 1d (19 replies)

One of the last lines of the article

Kraft later confirmed he didn't want Macklemore performing at Gillette, which Kraft owns ... accusing the rapper of crossing the line with antisemitic rhetoric and imagery.

I find it hard to believe that Maklemore uses antisemitic rhetoric and imagery (I'm willing to change this opinion with evidence). I would believe he uses Anti-Israeli rhetoric and imagery.

BigMacHole@thelemmy.club · 18 pts · 23h

Good! This leaves MORE Room for Noted Jew Lover Kanye West to play "Heil Hitler" at Kraft's stadiums AGAIN!

NOT_RICK@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 1d (16 replies)

I just found this today. Still not sure what to make of the costume, but Macklemore claims he didn’t intend for it to look like a Jewish caricature

thallamabond@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1d (11 replies)

That's exactly what he looks like. I could see this being viewed as antisemitic. I do still wonder what the retoric was

boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 20 pts · 1d (10 replies)

It's almost definitely antisemitic, but I suspect rather than being actual hatred, it was probably just an antisemitic joke in poor taste, and more importantly, he apologized for it in... 2014.

thallamabond@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 1d

2014! I thought that was from the current tour. People born that year will be teenagers next year. Robert Kraft associates with people who would fuck those teenagers.

Kraft it's deeply pro Isreal and supports organizations directly that have stated they define antisemitism as any criticism of Isreal. you don't like the yearly budget Isreal passes on Library maintenance? antisemitism. You think Isreal needs to secure better water use rights for a particular Israeli city? antisemitism. better not.

Wispy2891@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 19h

His PR team specifically chose the words "support the region" and ended the sentence with "I have supported efforts that create opportunity for Palestinians and have brought young Palestinians and Israelis together to build businesses, create jobs"

For example, financing bulldozing a Palestinian village, building an illegal settlement of terrorists, then hiring some Palestinians for pennies to clean the gardens, can technically match the statement

The Israeli Gaza "humanitarian" foundation let thousands of people die of starvation, also. Any donation to the ghf technically counted as Palestine aid, but it's like if during WW2 there was a fundraising for food in Auschwitz

shweddy@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Youre missing the fact that 1 million isnt even .01% of his wealth he gave away pennies

lookitsjustin@lemmy.ca · 16 pts · 1d

I did not miss that, no.

DarkCloud@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 22h

It's just PR bro. Trying to save face after the fact.

That 1 million (from each) will be tax deductible and not cost either of them anything (as long as they both earn at least a million this year, which they will).

It's also only a limited number of charities that are official enough to take such a sum, meaning the money will get shunted through approved US channels (so that it stays out of the hands of "Hamas" or whatever the US and Israel see as Hamas today).

qarbone@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 23h

$2 million for a gesture probably doesn't matter much to him.

Especially when his actions point to him being a Zionist, the question becomes how much money has Kraft spent furthering Zionist ideals in comparison? Does it make $2 million USD look like a joke?

Kraft donated to "support the region". Doesn't say anything specifically about Palestine. Dude probably wrote a $2 million check to Netenyahu.

thallamabond@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 21h

Settlements in Palestine need investments, the way he describes his donations reeks of dishonesty. "supported efforts to create opportunity for Palestinians" Opportunities aren't food or shelter or aid.

egrets@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 15h

Hold up, the post from Kraft only says:

Ed called me and asked me to commit $2 million to match his donation to aid in the region to fight this humanitarian crisis.

Doesn't say he'll do it, and doesn't say it'll go towards aid for Palestinians.

skisnow@lemmy.ca · 12 pts · 20h

"brought young Palestinians and Israelis together to build businesses, create jobs, and forge relationships" sounds like some Supply-side Jesus bullshit way of saying "I made a fuckton of money in Israel and even deigned to hire some Palestinians to do it"

DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 9h

That doesn't surprise me. It's cheap repair for his image. But, it's also disingenuous, which we all know.

Even if Kraft backed down and allowed the show, it wouldn't work. He's exposed himself, there's no repairing that. Also, the artists wouldn't return.

Kraft is known now. And, we know what he is.

disorderly@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 1d (3 replies)

In the article, they quote Kraft saying he has been a long time financial supporter of the Palestinian people.

So we're gonna see if his money lands where his mouth is. I have my doubts but I'm open to a happy surprise.

lookitsjustin@lemmy.ca · 17 pts · 1d

I'll admit I didn't read the article, lol. But - hang on, if he's a long-standing financial supporter of the Palestinian people, I'm genuinely confused as to why he's so upset at Macklemore's remarks.

Are we sure he isn't just saying whatever platitudes get him more money and support?

yogurt@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 20h

He's a long time funder of Our Generation Speaks which is an "ex" Israeli intelligence officer who pays token Palestinians to be pro-Israel, that's the only Palestinian thing his foundation funds.

Snowclone@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 4h

no... he has said he has tried to build bridges in terms of employment between Palestinian youth and Israeli youth. which is a much more specific statement. he's also only said he's been asked to be give money 'in the region' which he hasn't actually said he'll do it or not, and only 'in the region' which could be qualified by giving Bibi a $2mil donation.

Taco2112@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 9h

He already said he would match it but $1,000,000 is nothing to Robert Kraft. It’s basically a tax write off for some PR.

From further down in the article:

Pink wrote that she was not trying to get any artist fired or silence anyone but that she took issue with Macklemore’s putting “violent images” of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza up in a stadium filled with families, then telling Jews in the audience that “it wasn’t about them.”

I mean. Those are two different things. I don't know how someone could disagree with it.

betanumerus@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 8h (2 replies)

That's my first thought but I know some people are very touchy on this topic. The challenge is to say something most people will agree with. It seems like some people pick a side between violence and non-violence, others pick a side between the people groups, some seem to make the two inseparable, and others make it separable.

quack@lemmy.zip · 15 pts · 8h

The issue is more the bad faith actors who will ignore what you say and just call you antisemetic anyway.

Goldmage263@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 8h

Well, now you're getting into people parroting talking points back so they don't have to think about what you're saying. I wish you luck with that battle. I've had it many times. Using things people feel strongly about might help; like the Afghanistan "conflict". If someone is informed about the atrocities american's commited and are against it, that can be likened to Israel's treatment of Palestinians and might get them to think.

There is no amount of homophobia on the part of any percentage of any population that could possibly justify genocide, this specific hasbara talking point is exceptionally spineless morally bankrupt bullshit

BigDiction@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 6h

This is such a dumb fucking argument. I’ll never live in Palestine or most everywhere on planet earth. If some country decided to blow up entire cities in Indonesia I would be equally opposed.

Yeah so it turns out that people that are constantly being bombed back to the stone age don't really have the bandwidth to develop progressive viewpoints. Queer Palestians die to Israeli bombs just the same as any other.

queer Palestinians die to Palestinian machetes more though.

Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 5h (3 replies)

That's some bullshit.

Current estimates are at about 76,000 dead from Isreal's genocide, a third of which are children. There is not 76,000 dead queer Palestinians who've died at the hands of other Palestinians in the last 3 years.

This is a braindead take that a 5 second Google search could solve.

today class we're learning about population density and per capita.

Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.net · 0 pts · 1h (1 reply)

Apparently not, because the population of Palestinians will always equal the population of Palestinians no matter what. You didn't think through this.

GreenKnight23@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 22m

I'm 100% positive that there are far less Palestinians right now then there were nine months ago.

how dare you try to apply logic to a complex political issue!
