I canceled mine for this log out issue too not to mention the fact its choices are getting worse.
And I’ve gotten so old, I didn’t even know there were anime pirate sites with subtitles lol. Really?
they have a lot of add-on subscription services you can tack-on to your prime, and if you're not paying attention when you're clicking you can quite easily end up with one or more of those.
I’m willing to pay for a convenient, ad-free experience. It seems obvious to me that the company should know they will lose their customers by forcing ads. But I guess most of the population is crazy.
Sometimes I can't tell if these decisions are greed, or just rich people trying to make the world a more miserable place.
There's going to be massive 'attempts' to crack down on piracy soon, because in this economy, a lot of people are going to just stop putting up with this (and when I say a lot, I don't even mean close to the majority, but even optimistically 5% of people dropping this stuff would be huge).
it's greed. all greed. gotta keep the numbers going up. they've already sucked-up all the interested viewers so significant subscriber gains are out.. only ways that are left is to shed content (which they've done--just flat out delete their own shit and not even shop it around) and raise rates like they do whenever their cfo takes a dump.
The problem is that streaming cannot be profitable at scale. Not for a company that considers it a delivery channel instead of its own branch of tech, marketing, etc.
And once you can't offset the expenses with the constant increase of user numbers... this happens.
it never was from the get-go, they thought it would be an endless supply of subbing from covid. also hard to stay when the seasons are so short, and very long hiatuses in between.
i think cracking down on privacy is already in the works, but hasnt fully formalized by the gop yet. they will probably try to sneak it intoa bill when nobody paying attention.
Picked the plan I did because it was no ads and my kids like some of the shows. Lol. I will tell them they have 3 weeks so get watching. These streaming services think they are needed when they are just convenient for people like me with very little time to circumvent. I will pay 20 for a service but fuck if I’m watching ads if I’m already paying.
nothing works when MBA CEOs think that is reasonable or achievable to grow at least 20% year over year forever.
It is mathematical impossibility and yet these fucking monsters keep becoming millionaires by destroying companies and making everything in life miserable to achieve it.
Same, circa 2012-2014 somewhere. As soon as Netflix stopped focusing on making sure they gave you access to more and more titles and started making their own TV shows instead, I knew exactly what was up. I cancelled, ripped all my DVDs, built a Plex server and started collecting media using alternative sources. 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
That was the last subscription I ever had and I cannot imagine a world in which I would ever have another. It would be like entering an abusive relationship on purpose. I've already collected more media than I could hope to watch/listen to/read.
I love me a good Dark Knight reference like everyone, but don't see how it applies here. Disney does not give a shit about me. The telecom provider doesn't care if use the free benefit or not. Not a single person will notice if I cancel the free sub.
Effectively, there's no one to receive the message.
Fair point. I wonder if your provider would make plans to switch to another streaming service if they got enough emails about it. I'd complain in your shoes I think. It's part of the package and it's being devalued.
There is content on Hulu I have wanted to watch for about 6 months but I never do because I don't want to deal with their long commercials and volume spikes associated with their ads. The volume spikes are illegal for TV/Satellite but I guess the regulation doesn't cover streaming.
The legacy Hulu/ESPN/(ad free] Disney bundle for $25 (really only $18 with Amex) was my last streaming service. Ads on Disney is going to save me $18 a month, I guess.
So what's the difference between the plans? I got used to the ads because I pay for the lower tier and still had the same content. Will they be changing the content based on tier? That path leads to more piracy than ads if you ask me.
what the fuck is their problem. disney+ just got into being a great service with the addition of hulu (i dont care for espn but thats there too) and the app being one of the better made ones (paramount fucking sucks STILL) now they just ruined it
So, this sucks, but basically puts them in line with other streaming services. They aren’t showing, like, commercials from other companies. I get you, it can be helpful but it should be a tab for upcoming or something. Tbh Netflix has become awful for finding anything, its all the same rows of content under every heading.
I don't want to watch some promo shit, I want to watch the thing I chose. Like I'm siiting here, having carefully chosen my entertainment of the evening, and the streaming service starts out by telling me "HEY! You should watch this other thing instead!!!". If I want to watch a trailer or whatever, I'll look it up. I don't want it forced down my throat.
I think normal people just wanting to watch a show or a movie, who pay for a service, should absolutely be getting an ad free experience. I don't think piracy can be expected to be the solution for everyone.
Fair enough I'll take that. My thought was if they keep paying for this Disney has no incentive to change their business model. So if enough users stop subscribing, there might be a change.
I think as long as we are going to live in a society that requires intellectual property, that rights holders shouldn’t be able do do their own distribution. Disney should have to license content out to distributors like Netflix or Hulu, and there should be safeguards in place to ensure no one distributor can corner the market either.
As long as we’re at it I should be able to order shows streaming a-la carte. Like if I wanted to check out Ted Lasso but I didn’t want to subsidize F1, I should be able to unlock it for $5 one-time viewing.

Seriously. I'm letting my crunchy roll subscription expire because they constantly log me out and lately the content won't play in Firefox on Linux.
You know what always works and never has issues? Anime pirate sites with an ad blocker. Sometimes the subtitles are better as well.

Animetake and anitaku ( use search engine of your choice to find specifics ) among others but you'll def want to be using an Adblock etc
