So years ago I was into mountain biking, and decided I was going to buy a decent bike, well the model I liked was sold out but the guy said " if your ok with yellow I've got one in the back we can't sell" ended up getting the bike I wanted, in yellow, and he gave me $50 off. I started telling everyone yellow was my favorite color and at this point it really is. It's fun cause it is probably the least favorite color so I'm constantly find things in yellow when the other colors are sold out, also yellow things end up in discount bins. It's been 25 years now and I honestly get a happy feeling when I find something I want in yellow.
You know when You have a couple different leftover paints but You need to paint something bigger and You don't really care how it will look? So You just mix them all together with some white and slap that on? It never comes out as a pretty colour, always some vile shade of brown. I once rented an apartment clearly painted like that. Every wall was the same colour. Pale, pinkish brown.
There is a reason why mixing paint at random will result in roughly the same brown every time. Basically, all paints are combinations of different pigments, no paint is “exactly red” or “exactly” anything. And those not-exactlys mix up and give you brown all the time. I also hate it the most.
since i got into art i don't dislike any colour, i do dislike how they sometimes get used though - puke yellow-green might be ugly as the base, but as a highlight to something green it's very pretty!
Everything is fucking grey these days. It's the only colour they seem to know to build with. Need to paint a window, door, fence, any portion of the building that isn't brick? Grey!
I strongly dislike red unless it is a pinkish or purplish red in which case I really like it. I will agree that beige is boring but I don't hate it. Otherwise I like every other color, including stereotypically ugly colors like puke green.
Beige is a type of brown, which is orange but a different brightness. Look at a color wheel and select orange and change the parameters for darkness you're gonna get the brown spectrum.
edit: since you seem to lack comprehension; light orange is beige; dark orange is brown.
Look at a color wheel and select orange and change the parameters for darkness you’re gonna get the brown
You again are saying that "dark orange is brown" which is not the same as saying "things which are not dark orange (such as dark yellow) is not brown."
That is a much difficult question than I initially thought. I think it is the high saturated slightly dark orange. Mainly because I do some design works, and it is bloody difficult to find a matching color. So far I found only white or black.
It's so loud, obnoxious and in your face, I hate it.
It's only somewhat acceptable on very small things, tiny accents etc.
And I have a theory hear me out: no car in the world looks the best in red, there is always another color that looks better. Yes, even Ferraris and Alfas. Prove me wrong.
1000%. Ever seen a Ferrari in a sky blue? Shit rocks way harder than red. In GT7 my friend and I painted a 512 to be full carbon and that thing looks incredible.
The only exceptions where it at least looks pretty decent are Miatas and other small cars like Minis Fiat 500s.
I particularly dislike that Pepto Bismol Hot Pink color. It hurts my eyes to look at it. It's tacky, it's gaudy, and the fact that it causes me actual physical pain in large enough quantities is enough for me to dislike it.
LAVENDER fuck lavender
hate it get some saturation the matter with you
edit: oh no sorry beige, fuck you get some hue as well. Why they keep making baby clothes these rank desatured hues is beyond me. If you're in a store you can clearly see at what age/size children start to choose their clothes as well from the sudden color explosion.
Brown is legitimately one of my favorite colors, especially for clothes and...well...most other tangible items. Deep down, I think you understand and resent the fact that having brown beside it is one of the only ways your twisted pale purples can look halfway decent.
My clothing is mostly black with bright red, blue or purple accents. The accessories tend to be similar colours. I have not owned anything brown for at least 35 years, from the age I could start making my own decisions.
The only brownish thing in my flat now is the flooring and even that is more yellow than brown.
I'm with you. Fucking everything is blue. What's amazing to me is that it's still sometimes amazing, though, in the right shade. But way overused, on average.
The color that came from space, it fell one day from the sky, or from… somewhere else. It got into the ground, the plants, the water, the animals, and… and us. It changed things, mutated reality around it, turned them into a form more like where it came from. I can’t picture it when I think about it, the color, it doesn’t exist in the human mind, it doesn’t belong here, but I still remember seeing it… and I can’t forget what it did. I’m still not sure if I ever got away from it, if you can get away from it… It was a color out of space…
I don't ever find myself wanting anything that is pink. I really think most colors are pleasant and have their place. Pink just gives me a sense of... needy? Overbaring and loud, i guess.
I don't know if I have a least favorite overall - there is a color between brown and green I find distasteful but there are colors I like but not for certain things.
I cannot wear orange, or coral. They make me look like I am green and sick.
I can't stand red on walls. We moved into our house and the kitchen was painted red it was almost offensive. I think they were going for "Tuscan" . My grandma's house had a Red Room and I never liked it either.
Floors should not be gray planks pretending to be wood but clothing in that color can be so beautiful. I have a gray silk cami and it is like liquid mercury looking, so pretty.
Holy shit I had that very thought like two days ago. I always hate people who go on about favourite because well, I love all colours, really. Yeah, even beige or greys can be beautiful in the right context.
And so I thought to myself, "now hate, that would be interesting to know the reasons!"
This is gonna be a fun read.
And to contribute I don't have a hated colour either but I do remember being absolutely annoyed at CSI Miami egregious use of colour contrasts. Like Nick with his red (orange) hair vs his blue clothes / eyes.
The lab with its purple vs yellow hues. And I do remember a great episode where it all happened in the jungle and it just kept on hammering red vs green.
It was funny at first, but it was so unsubtle, it really got to my nerves after a while.
Just because they stock them doesn't mean everyone has to buy them.
Also, which is it? You have to pay more for neat colors or non-colors have a higher resale? Can't be both.
I can say that when I bought my car (used) it was about $2000 more than equivalent cars because it is bright green. All the bland colors were always cheaper.
I'm willing to believe that dealers charge more for colors, but its clear that they carry more value. You dont need 20 people to buy a used car, just one.
I did a search on cargurus for Subaru crosstreks and corvettes. Blue for each, white for each. There are always fewer blue in both cases and they are in all but a few cases, more expensive.
Most people who buy a new car buy one that is already on the lot. They stock gray and silver because it's popular and has a high resale value. This policy reinforces the statistic. You have to pay more for neat colors and then you have to wait a while for it to arrive.
Currently that "Black Cherry" that Schecter guitars is doing. I play lefthanded so there's not that many options when you want something slightly more specialized (in this case, a >=27"-scale 7-string guitar under 1000€), and Schecter apparently decided that they have to make their only lefty model in that configuration this fuck-ugly color/pattern. What happened to boring old black? I don't really like black guitars, either, but at least it looks neutral.
Whatever that color scheme is for all the US national parks. They picked the ugliest shades of brown and green I have ever laid eyes on. Every time I go to a national park, the facilities painted in those colors gives me a deep depression...
Just murky colours, khaki or camo or anything actual Murky or Lurky would wear, from Rainbow Brite, because I just look at myself and still say, yuck, you look like Murky and Lurky. Fun fact, just realised I named one of my kids after one of the colour kids! Another fun fact, when I was 3yo, I decided I was done with my home and I was running away to live with Rainbow Brite, I patiently waited for a Rainbow to appear in the sky, grabbed my favorite toy, said sorry to all the ones I had to leave behind, walked to the end of the street and, then realised I could go no further because I wasn't allowed to cross the road, so I, defeated, returned home.
Mine is also brown, but I'm ok with wood and trees that are naturally that color: I just hate the thought that people would paint things/dress themselves in such a depressing color.
My house had really gross almost nude colored accent walls and doors. It was awful. I painted over it before I moved in so I wouldn't have to see the disgusting color every day.
The upstairs bedroom of my old house had that interlocking bead board siding and was painted “sphincter”. A light pink with a hint of brown. It was something. With all the crevices it took a lot of work to paint it blue.
That's vile. I'm glad you got rid of that color. Painting things colors like that should be considered a crime against humanity and punishable by life in prison.
It"s all about the medium its on though. I was about to say bright green as there are these houses nearby of this playground bright green color and I hate them but then a thin leaf of the same color is absolutely beautiful. So it really depends what's being colored.

I'm with you. Fucking everything is blue. What's amazing to me is that it's still sometimes amazing, though, in the right shade. But way overused, on average.

Green. I hate the artificial use of green. Nature green is beautiful. Green in clothes, furniture, walls, cars...Hate it

Neon/fluorescent colors. For a highlighter color, sure in small doses. For everything else... It's not for me. It just overwhelms me.
teslasaur@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 306d

And so I thought to myself, "now hate, that would be interesting to know the reasons!" This is gonna be a fun read.
UpperBroccoli@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 305d
Clearly, the worst colour is ocean gray. Such a dowdy old colour. Military gray is superior in every way.
blargh513@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 305d
All gray is bad.
Enough with black, white and gray. If I see another b/w/g Tesla model Y I'm going to puke on it just so it has some color.
Quit being a pussy and get a purple car, a green car, orange, whatever.
Y'all gonna die one day and nobody will be on their death bed saying "wow, I am so happy that I avoided color my whole life, I win".
blargh513@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 305d
Just because they stock them doesn't mean everyone has to buy them.
Also, which is it? You have to pay more for neat colors or non-colors have a higher resale? Can't be both.
I can say that when I bought my car (used) it was about $2000 more than equivalent cars because it is bright green. All the bland colors were always cheaper.
I'm willing to believe that dealers charge more for colors, but its clear that they carry more value. You dont need 20 people to buy a used car, just one.
I did a search on cargurus for Subaru crosstreks and corvettes. Blue for each, white for each. There are always fewer blue in both cases and they are in all but a few cases, more expensive.
syreus@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 305d
Most people who buy a new car buy one that is already on the lot. They stock gray and silver because it's popular and has a high resale value. This policy reinforces the statistic. You have to pay more for neat colors and then you have to wait a while for it to arrive.
Manticore@lemmy.nz · 3 pts · 306d
My favourite colour is bright orange, like candy. Followed by bright yellow, like canary feathers.
The colour I hate is the nasty pumpkin-flesh yellow-orange ochre that exists between them.
Probably makes me hard to buy for that people think they're getting me a nice orange thing in 'my favourite colour' 🤮

The upstairs bedroom of my old house had that interlocking bead board siding and was painted “sphincter”. A light pink with a hint of brown. It was something. With all the crevices it took a lot of work to paint it blue.
