OpenStars@piefed.social · 36 pts · 288d
The only thing that stops a good dog with a gun is a bad dog with a gun.
Or maybe a cat with a knife, I guess? I dunno.😸
TheLowestStone@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 288d
It is the cat. The problem is then you need a mouse with a rusty needle to deal with the cat.
OpenStars@piefed.social · 1 pts · 287d
And then a parasite with a Tylenol to deal with the mouse, and so it ever was.
Empricorn@feddit.nl · 6 pts · 288d

I really dont understand when people say gun privilige. Like owning a gun is something people should aspire towards.
Guns should be responsibilities, not privilieges.

Its actually a very common problem. Gun nuts all think they are John McClane and need to keep one in the chamber at all times. They remove the magazine but never properly run the action and yeah. Its especially a problem with glocks because disassembly actually involves squeezing the trigger.
Responsible gun owners are only slightly more common than good guys with a gun.

kn33@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 288d
Agreed. There are a lot of people and a lot of guns in the world, so I won't say that it's never happened. The vast majority of those cases, though, are suicides or failed suicides where they're trying to save face and/or make sure the life insurance still pays out.
shalafi@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 288d

skisnow@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 287d
I accidentally got dragged into a conversation at work with a gun owner who seemed to have it mapped out exactly how they thought a home invasion would play out. In their scenario they'd have the drop on the robbers, who'd never be expecting someone to keep a loaded gun by their bed while sleeping...
There was so much detail in there that it made me wonder if they actually wanted someone to come into their house so they could have an excuse to kill someone.
limelight79@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 286d
Oh, yeah. They live for this fantasy. We have an Airstream travel trailer, and there are people in that group that are absolutely certain that someone WILL try to break in sooner or later while they're camping, and they will be Ready For It.
I assume they are the same group of people that end up shooting an innocent person that had their car break down at 2 am and just wanted help, or knocked on the door to what they thought was a friend's house.
It's really disturbing how certain they are that this will happen. Too much Fox News, I assume.

dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 287d
Nobody is ever actually shot while "cleaning" their gun. Unloading it is step 1 in this procedure for basically every firearm ever made, and that assessment stretches back several hundred years by now.
This is just a culturally ingrained lame excuse people pathologically fall back on thinking they're going to save face over capping their own damn selves with an easily avoidable negligent discharge. And everyone who tries it inevitably thinks they're the first person to think of it, because they're stupid.
LePoisson@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 287d
