Renee Good still had a pulse 8 minutes after she was shot by an ICE agent. And yet the offer to administer aid from a physician on the scene, following his Hippocratic Oath, was denied.

So it was initially attempted murder, then by denying her aid, full on murder.

Also remember what the pigs said, Jonathan Ross of Minnesota said "fucking bitch" after he shot her. And another said "I don't care" when asked by the medical person to go to her aid.

hector@lemmy.today · 33 pts · 207d (2 replies)

More second if not first degree murder, then felony murder, accessory after the fact, etc for everyone stopping medical care.

First degree. He baited the situation, and shot while he was completely clear of possible harm. First degree murder.

First degree because they were ordered to shoot a vehicle blocker, make an example, and send a message.

The cruelty is the point.

This is partly why I hate Obama so much. He had so many opportunities to reform this (Ferguson sticks out the most) and instead he doubled down on militarized police.

kadu@scribe.disroot.org · 53 pts · 207d (1 reply)

Obama bombed civilian targets. Don't let the current crap create the illusion that before Trump all presidents were peaceful rainbow good guys.

altphoto@lemmy.today · 5 pts · 207d

This is true but let's choose not total Nazi party if at all possible. I know we don't actually have the right to vote for our president... We should say "their president" since we don't actually vote for a president. But we get to choose local government officials, judges and representatives...basically the useless leaches that is not empowered by our way of government to do anything about a president who is clearly a senile crazy racist asshole. So this pile of dung is just there getting paid all the money that could go into filling potholes. But we can vote for a different pile of politician dung.

I'd like the guarantee of an effective and equal vote for every single American older than 15 years old. None of this fucking representative shit. If you want more representation because you live at the peak of a mountain...move? Otherwise our government should figure out why rebuilding a road to your house is important to the rest of us. Like if your farm is the only right handed peach farm in the world, heck yeah, get you a high-speed rail station, I want some right handed peaches. Everyone is aware of food and where it comes from. I think farmers need as much support as we can provide since their production makes all of our lives better. I'd like to reroute police pay to farmers. Brand spanking new Crownvic combines for every farmer ever year LOL.

Our government needs to serve us. It doesn't now.

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 207d (1 reply)

You realize that trump was impeached twice by the dems and the republicans wouldn't let that happen? There are so many things to focus on right now, Obama isn't one of them.

You also have a nice evening.

Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz · 9 pts · 207d

We expect the republicans to build fascism. We don't expect the only opposition to fascism at the federal level to maintain and expand those same institutions.

The dems expect us to vote for them, but fund Trump's gestapo at every opportunity.

DigitalAudio@sopuli.xyz · -1 pts · 207d

Obama and Boden and most Dems are similar to Van Papen in that they thought they could just restrain fascism and it would pass. Instead, by attempting to restrain it, they emboldened fascism and allowed it to thrive.

But they are not cancer itself. Fascism is. They were just unfit to provide any opposition to it.

Y'know, it's very believable and absolutely worth investigating, but the Trump admin has the full epstein files, if there was something truly damning about Clinton in them they would literally be unable to shut up about it. They would be trying to drown out everything else shouting that investigation from the rooftops. I'm really starting to think it's BS and Clinton just let himself get schmoozed by Esptein like a lot of people did.

This isn’t that shocking if you’ve watched a lot of police videos in the USA. It seems to me they put themselves first and everything else comes second. I’ve seen countless videos where they have shot someone and it takes so long to get medical help.

Here in the Uk i don’t see that. We put people first. If you’re guilty of a heinous crime you still have a right to life and a trial. The cops are not here to execute you.

filcuk@lemmy.zip · 18 pts · 207d (9 replies)

They famously don't even have guns here most of the time.
Which is fine, because no-one else has guns either.

dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de · 13 pts · 207d (4 replies)

But we still don’t kill people that often. Even if someone has a knife I’ve seen like 20 feds with riot shields disarm them and arrest them as preserving life is important.

Even if you have a knife in America you’re being shot dead.

brygphilomena@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 10 pts · 207d

If the cop just gets impatient, you're shot.

So many situations can be deescalated safely by having some form of patience.

SabinStargem@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 207d (2 replies)

I think that police should only have a shotgun in the trunk of their police cruiser. The dispatcher has to remotely unlock the trunk, and then grant permission to the shotgun. Our law enforcers should be held to a higher standard when it comes to deploying violence, and be fully on the record.

They can have telescopic batons, which also require the remote unlock from dispatch. Again, to ensure that when force is deployed, the state is responsible. An officer who deploys force without permission, should be treated as suspect in a court of law.

Same goes for grenades to need dispatch's authority. All weapons and cameras should automatically have records sent to federal, state, and civil rights groups.

SabinStargem@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 206d

Well, that is the point. By making it so that they can only have inconvenient ranged firepower that is locked up in the car, they can't kill people nearly as often nor with ease. The only time they should be using firepower, is with coordination with dispatch and the PD anyways.

It is harder to shoot a black dude in the back, if you don't have a gun by default.

As we have seen with the protests in Minneapolis and other places, people don't readily kill enforcers, despite having just cause and the 2nd Amendment. The claims of cops needing a gun at all times is a lie, perpetuated by the oligarchy to protect their interests.

Republicans celebrate and cheer this wildly. Why do they want other Americans killed?

Macchi_the_Slime@piefed.blahaj.zone · 28 pts · 207d (1 reply)

Because they've wholly bought into the idea that it's not "Americans" that are dying, it's "The Enemy" that is. That they wouldn't have died if they didn't do something to "deserve" it.

It's just like the Myth of Meritocracy. If you got it then you deserved it, the proof that you deserved it is that you got it.

SabinStargem@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 207d

MAGA has certainly convinced me that they aren't patriots. I now consider them to be Dogey Americans, servants of an evil regime and avatars of malice.

It ain't great that things have become black and white like this, but it is pretty clear that there isn't room for nuance anymore.

RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 207d (1 reply)

Life is cheap to them, and they wholly subscribe to using violence and threats as a solution to most problems. No problem can’t be solved by: slapping, shooting, punching, beating the shit out of, running over, jailing, starving, or otherwise humiliating and ostracizing the offending party. Kids out of line? Tan ‘em. Prius in front of your truck driving too slow? Run ‘em over. Some lib mouthing off to ICE? Shoot ‘em.

I assume it’s lack of intelligence, laziness, and selfishness. The inability to understand nuance and complexity to work out alternative solutions, the unwillingness to expend the effort to understand anything other than their reductionist and myopic view, and the resistance to it costing them anything, monetarily, ego-wise, or having to change anything about their behavior.

So when some authority figure on “their team” uses one of the aforementioned methods to force compliance, they all cheer like it’s a football game. Their side scored a point, they were right, and they’ll punch anyone that tries to tell them different. The right’s propaganda machine has been running steadily and successfully at it’s current level since Reagan to demonize the left and since 9/11 immigrants and foreigners, so anyone not with them isn’t human anymore.

Feedback17@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 206d

NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 207d (3 replies)

I imagine that the family could sue over that, but is that something a doctor can sue over?

Abundance114@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 206d (2 replies)

A doctor has no legal obligation or mandate to treat people; they have an obligation to not harm the patients they are treating.

I'd love to see a timeline of the shooting until medical arrived, it's probably jacked up but I don't think immediately allowing anyone onto the scene is correct either.

gedaliyah@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 206d (1 reply)

Law enforcement officers have a legal obligation to render aid, which may include allowing a physician to treat an injured person at the scene of a shooting.

Abundance114@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 206d

Law enforcement officers have a legal obligation to render aid

Even if we accept that point, which is debatable, they have higher priorities. They don't have an officer involved shooting and then the second bullets stop flying everyone just goes into first aid mode.

Securing the scene is a higher priority, even firefighters and EMTs aren't allowed on scene until the scene is secured, so why should some random person who claims to be a doctor? Furthermore the police suddenly become liable for the safety of the individual rendering aid if they allow them on scene.

This entire situation is exasperated by the presence of a hostile crowd, just like the George Floyd situation; had the police not been constantly threatened by an aggressive crowd they could have focused much more on the suspect that required aid.

whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 13 pts · 206d

Just a reminder of what justice & accountability would look like not under a fascist oligarch:

  1. Everyone from ICE who was at the shooting and restricted paramedic access should have been in custody the same day
  2. Their supervisors responsible for training and oversight and organizational leadership from direct commanders up to the head of DHS should have quit or been fired within the first week
  3. New DHS organizational leadership should turn over all evidence to MN and shut down ICE and restructure for assisting immigrants instead of oppressing and abusing them, or dissolve DHS all together
W3dd1e@lemmy.zip · 13 pts · 207d (2 replies)

Even if there wasn’t a doctor on scene, is law enforcement not given basic emergency medical training for when they arrive on scene before EMTs?

Not one of those ICE officers even attempted to help.
