I AM NOT DEFENDING BILL BUT as much as I believe Puff Daddy got away with a bunch of shit he definitely did that was illegal so much of what came out was just raging narcissism, hedonism, drug use and homosexuality. Most of their case was based on morality. They might have enough on Bill to "Ruin" him publicly but he draws a line at the pedophile tag. He might have loved doing coke and fucking ladyboys, he had a thing for African bisexual threeways who knows.

Id plead guilty and go to jail over a lot of things before I'd wear a pedophile conviction in the court of public opinion.

Even if we think this may possibly be true or have been true, what virtue is there in us publicly signalling this kind of defeatism?

The reality is that a lot has happened already. The EFTA is a solid piece of legislation. They were forced to push it through unanimously. We have over 3,000,000 documents to go through. We maybe have gone over not even 50% of them and consorting pedophiles and associates in high politics and diplomatic circles have resigned and or are being investigated. This was unthinkable just 2 months ago.

He tried to capture Greenland, kidnapped a head of state, killed two citizens and this scandal is not going away.

And they have admitted they are withholding (even in the closed room session with congress) 3,000,000 documents.

This isn’t over and this will cause a very serious problem for a long time to come.

Not to get too tinfoil hatty, but I imagine this is a bluff. He can say let's do this in public because he's not in power. Trump/republicans can't really agree because then Bill will expose Trump. Bill gets to say I have nothing to hide and Trump can't make Bill actually testify publicly because then they would both be exposed. At any time, Bill could go to any journalist and explain everything. Its honestly pretty smart if you know that the republicans will never sell trump out, which is a pretty safe bet.

It won't take four years to change USA's political system, but the sooner they start the better. The world is certainly not holding its breadth.

That's not the point at all. There are still respected journalists all over the world, but that's secondary. It depends on what the meaning of "is" is.

Schadrach@lemmy.sdf.org · 3 pts · 197d

...and it did.

Bill Clinton is very, very good at not perjuring himself while not admitting to things he doesn't want to. He "did not have sexual relations with that woman" because he made them define "sexual relations" and the definition they supplied did not include receiving oral. The definition of "is" mattered because whether it just meant currently or included at any time in the past (aka does "is" also include "was") would change what answer he would have to give not to perjure himself.

He's all up for this testimony because this is exactly his wheelhouse, he thinks that they can embarrass him but that they can't pin him for pedophilia, and he wants it to be very public because he's got enough dirt on enough major conservatives that they won't want it to be done publicly and that might get him out of even having to be embarrassed.

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 199d

another 1/3 will believe what they see online as long as it is repeated confidently and by enough people. A couple studies show this pretty well. The best way to change that 1/3 of peoples opinions who are not die hards is to show that you're strong by being unmovable and by reading the same opinion over and over and over again. It rewires the brain.

Which is good because the left has a very strong presence on social media and they actively contest this government by challenge it in the space that the government puts all it's eggs in. Because if your enemy is putting all this effort into an area, it would be dumb to let them set up in that area. You'd have to be dumb as shit to just concede that area because it's "too hard to deal with"

the_crotch@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 198d (16 replies)

People still defend him lying under oath because "just a blowjob"

chiliedogg@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 198d

The perjury charge was a stretch due to a perjury trap set up be the Republicans, which is why 10 Republicans in the Senate rejected it along with the Dems.

However, the blowjob was the bigger issue. It's unethical for a retail manager to get a blowjob from a floor associate because consent is more complicatedwhen there's a power imbalance. I don't understand how people can defend the President of the United States getting oral sex from an intern.

Nalivai@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 198d (14 replies)

Not really, it's just it turned out that while we're focusing on him getting a blowjob from a consenting adult almost 30 years ago, we don't focus on politician that are currently in power, and which were and are doing heinous shit to literal children. Priorities, you know.

the_crotch@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 198d (11 replies)

Trump was impeached twice in his first term and if the Democrats gain a majority this year I'm sure he'll be impeached again. Turns if you let one party get a stranglehold on all 3 branches the whole checks and balances thing kind of falls apart.

Maybe if Clinton had been held accountable back then it would be easier to hold the president accountable now. Precedent and all that.

Nalivai@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 198d (10 replies)

Yeah, because current administration fucking loves precedents and upholding a law. They literally gave the president absolute immunity, the fuck a precedent about a democrat from 30 years ago will do

the_crotch@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 197d (9 replies)

Give a significant amount of people a reminder that the president is accountable to the law, thereby changing the culture that Trump was elected into.

No president has ever been thrown out of office. No president has ever been jailed. If you think it wouldn't be at least a little bit easier for a country that had done that to do it again, you're dumb.

Nalivai@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 197d (8 replies)

You think all that inert mass, who does nothing when autocrat's personal army executes people on the street, will react somehow different if only we'd jail an already unpopular president three decades ago? What a braindead take, it's unreal.

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 198d

What is there to lie about really. When a 79 year old man is asked a question and he responds, "I don't know or don't remember" there is little reason it shouldn't be believed. There is a reason that air traffic controllers are forced into retirement at ~56, because studies found people's mental acquity starts declining rapidly and they can't be found reliable for important roles. This guy hasn't held office in 25 years now, it would be hard to find anything you can guarantee he remembers accurately during his time in office without having to review documentation and fill in gaps and let his brain believe it remembers.

It's the whole thing about a person will run a red light, remember it being green, witness says it was green, video feed shows it was clearly red. And that testimony happens within minutes to months. Witness testimony isn't worth much, let alone years later.

Ex president, ex senator and ex secretary of state. They were in positions of power and have the ears of Obama and Biden. The fact that the Biden administration sat on their ass over all these information is infuriating.
