This is just a list of reasons why you should vote for her

Big_Boss_77@fedinsfw.app · 47 pts · 61d (1 reply)

Probably would love to have her elected, then they can piss and moan about how horrible everything is and blame her

BonsaiBoo@lemmy.world · 38 pts · 61d

Unironically, yes, they can’t govern and are sick of it, they have much more fun and get much higher ratings when they’re in opposition and not in control.

stupidcasey@lemmy.world · -16 pts · 60d

Literally just pro China propaganda, they are doing exactly what they did in Minnesota and California, they are funneling your tax dollars to foreign anti-American bad actors.

And the data center thing wether you agree or not is still bad for America AI competitiveness making it good for China.

No such thing as a free lunch literally they can call it whatever they want but it is actually for advancing China Interests.

Wisconsin

FoxtrotDeltaTango@sh.itjust.works · 19 pts · 61d (2 replies)

Unfortunately, I don’t live in Wisconsin, I live in California

UniversalBasicJustice@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 12 pts · 60d (1 reply)

Fortunately* you don't live in Wisconsin.

Born and raised there; a DSA governor is a fucking fantastic step in the right direction. I'll mention her to my family but...

Wisconsin is the south of the north. I regularly drove past a Confederate flag. Milwaukee is the most segregated city in the US (or was, havent checked recently) and the GOP leans into that with a lot of ugly rhetoric.

This article is getting a little long in the tooth but is a quality deep dive into some of the very thinly veiled (or outright) systemic racism in Wisconsin.

Also; rural Grindr made me sad for queer men raised in that environment, including myself.

joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 59d

I just wanted to know that your last statement brought me a bit of comfort today, thank you. I've been feeling a bit isolated here, since, well, ever, but was never able to make it out yet :/ I'm not that rural, but anywhere outside of Milwaukee or Madison is pretty bleak.

What do you mean, we showed she's not white ~fox news

notabot@piefed.social · 55 pts · 60d (3 replies)

I'm beginning to wonder if someone more left leaning has infiltrated fox. The boss say "put together a hit piece on the demonrat", "sure thing boss" says our mole, before turning over this graphic. To the boss it look great, surely no one could support this! To everyone less poisoned, it looks a lot more enticing.

zurohki@aussie.zone · 37 pts · 60d (1 reply)

It's always funny when Fox puts up radical left wing policies like taxing billionaires and supporting families and then have to scramble to take them down because even Fox viewers read them and think they sound like a good idea.

grrgyle@slrpnk.net · 11 pts · 60d

Yeah and maybe they start wondering why their "side" is against things that help people

5765313496@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 60d

Yes! I've been thinking the same thing. This was posted yesterday, and the lurker part of my brain said "surely someone else has already had this idea". So I checked all the comments, but it wasn't there. Then the lurker said "they'll say it soon, and in better words". And it was right!

Anyway, thanks!

$20 an hour minimum wage is garbage, it should be much higher.

orlyowl@piefed.ca · 10 pts · 60d

It's an excellent step up from 7.50 though.

PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 60d

FlexibleToast@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 59d

In Wisconsin it isn't. Sure you're not going to buy a house in Madison with it, but you'll be fine in most of the state.

When you are so far right, everyone is far left.

infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net · 15 pts · 60d

That said, US politics is so bad that this platform is legitimately further left than like 95% of electeds. If this candidate is a Democrat it's likely that her own party will favor a candidate to her right in primary and if she beats them, possibly still not throw their weight behind her in the general.

Remember that the leader of the Democratic party is basically a domestic spokesperson for Israel and refuses to acknowledge support the most popular politician in his own party.

Stop describing it as a "tax hike"... we want to restore fair taxation after decades of irresponsible tax breaks.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 60d

Yeah our country has taxes too low to provide necessary services. Like across the board. Yes, we spend too much on cops, prisons, and war, but we have needs and uncontroversial wants that we can't fund without higher taxes or ever increasing debt.

explodicle@sh.itjust.works · -14 pts · 60d (13 replies)

How is publicly-owned grocery stores not far left? That's literal socialism.

AlfalFaFail@lemmy.ml · 25 pts · 60d (6 replies)

Some other literal socialist institutions that are far left:

  • libraries
  • parks
  • postal service
  • public universities
  • museums
  • hospitals
  • healthcare
  • the military

This isn't a far-left policy. This is FDR Democrats.

lemmylump@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 60d (3 replies)

The postal service has been turned into a junk mail distribution system and there is nothing citizens can do to stop it. It's infuriating.

Oh and do not be fooled into paying $8 to $9 to companies claiming they can stop the junk mail, that's a HUGE SCAM.

velma@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 60d

The postal service is still very functional and handles way more than just junk mail.

Railing5132@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 60d (1 reply)

The one thing you CAN do, and it's FREE is to place a FREE freeze on your credit file with the following: Experian Equifax Transunion Chexsystems Lexisnexis

These leeches are required by law to provide a free method to freeze access to your credit file. They don't make it easy to find, and bury it under their paid "premium" offers, usually in a plain-text link at the bottom of the page.

Once you do this, those pre-approved credit cards will stop cold. This will increase your credit score every month, as each one is a "soft inquiry" on your file, costing you thousands over time in higher interest rates, denied credit, and denied leases/rental. It also helps slow down identity theft.

Do this for your kids' social security numbers as well. Those are prime for theft.

johnyreeferseed@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 60d

Holy shit, that explains why my wife gets so many and I never do.

explodicle@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 60d (1 reply)

IMHO this makes more a case for socialism than it demonstrates that these things are not socialist.

AlfalFaFail@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 60d

My issue is the classification of these particular items being far-left is a failure of what the far-left. Depending on what you consider socialism, this would be it or a conciliation to the ruling class.

Mcdolan@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 60d (1 reply)

Is it still socialism if private ones are allowed to exist as well?

explodicle@sh.itjust.works · -3 pts · 60d

Then it's still a socialist policy, just not 100% immediately.

SethTaylor@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 60d (1 reply)

It's not far-left because it does not restrict a citizen's own right to run a for-profit grocery store. She only wants the state to run its own grocery stores. I hope I'm wording this right.

explodicle@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 59d

This is the most satisfying answer, thank you.

Conservative voters have been trained to dislike things that are good for them. That's why many Republican controlled areas of this country are almost indistinguishable from 3rd world countries.

VoodooMischief@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 60d (1 reply)

The really sinister part is seeing that even some “liberal” Americans have the seeds of conservatism planted in their viewpoints. These are the centrists that tend to say one thing but act out a different way. The brainwashing is deep.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world · 4 pts · 59d

The Conservative Propaganda Machine has been able to control the political messaging in this country for decades, and some of their messages have become standard belief, like the concept that everything the government does is ALWAYS incompetent and wasteful, and that simply isn't true. MOST of what the government does is very effective.

The government is an enormous bureaucracy, and if you root around enough, you'll find issues, but overall, it does a pretty amazing job, when responsible people are managing it.

We need to challenge these standard beliefs that have become dogma, like Dem are bad for the economy (when ALL studies prove that it's MAGA), Socialism is terrible (when many of the best things in America are Socialist, and it still offers better outcomes than whatever we are doing now), etc., and start moving in the direction that we have been so carefully directed away from.

Raiderkev@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 60d

BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world · 7 pts · 59d

Yeah, that used to work, until they learned to say "We'll just take it from the billionaires," and everyone said "Okay, that's perfectly acceptable."

Now all they can do is scream "SOCIALISM!" and people are starting to think THAT sounds pretty good, too.

They're losing their rhetorical weapons quickly, and that arsenal was pretty low to begin with.

That is a strong set of policies. Too bad there's nothing about the current housing crisis, like disposessing slumlords to turn the properties into subsidised housing or giving renters the option to buy, but still strong.

pedantichedgehog@sh.itjust.works · 16 pts · 60d (2 replies)

Copied and pasted from Francesca Hong's policy platform page: We’re going to make sure nobody goes to sleep cold, and that renter protections are consistently enforced. As governor, Rep. Hong will use her executive authority to bolster rental unit regulations, pursue aggressive regulation of slumlords and serial housing-law violators, and make it easier for tenants to flag issues and find support.

You sure about that? The rich will have to pay your childcare! Also, you'll earn at least $20 an hour. Also, your money can't go to overpriced food, because the state will own a place that sells food. On top of that, there won't be any datacenters, so you will be left with enough water, enough electricity and enough land! Doesn't it sound much nicer to have no taxes for the rich? Imagine what they can do with all the money they now don't have to spend on the other people in society. Imagine a world where they can "invest" all of their wealth. Doesn't that sound much better?
