That was a BMW M440i (i recognize the wheels, color and slope of the back). It has a 386hp/398lb-ft turbocharged inline 6 with a mild hybrid system. BMW says it can do 0-60 in 4.3s, but independent tests have shown it can do 3.9-4.1s

People don't like to view vehicles as murder machines but they very much are. If raising the front end 40% increases the chance of death by 40% to pedestrians and the only benefis were "I like the way it looks" or in this case the car being designed to accelerate at speeds that arent comfortable or safe because "I think it can be fun sometimes" at the detriment of others is just poorly planned.
Sure the guy is at fault, but so is the company that manufactured it, and the government bodies that allowed it on public roads.
If someone wants to have a hobby playing with and racing cars, that's fine; but they don't belong in public areas.
Fun fact, not even the most powerful version of that car, that would be the M4 which can do under 3 seconds in the xDrive variant.
But it has enough tuning potential that you could get M4 performance out of the M440i no problem. B58 is considered to be the modern day equivalent of the Toyota 2JZ, to the point that even Toyota uses it in the modern Supras.
I've heard that the only thing slowing down cars now is tires. Like we can make motors or ICE hit the wall of material science in the rubber meeting the road.
the reason i'm a proponent of the adaptive cruise control systems is that i was very, very nearly in a 30 car pileup on the Grapevine (if you don't know the stretch of road, I-5 north of LA, south of bakersfield. very mountainy and curvy, there's always a fire or an accident when i drive by four times a year). It was foggy and the ACC saw the car ahead of me before I did, let us stop before hitting it and making it a 32 car pileup.
When I was growing up (80s and 90s) that size accident would have multiple fatalities. Only one person had to go to the hospital, and she was pregnant. They wanted to check on the baby. Everyone else just had light bruising/abrasions.
Modern cars seem like a miracle compared to what i started driving.
That's between them and their therapists. It's even funnier for me because my kids and I (even my wife to a lesser degree) joke around in every conceivable way, bad, good and everything in between, and that's just how we roll in our family. My kids love it, evidently, me too. I imagine how many people are butthurt by that right now, and can't stop laughing when I think the images they must have of me in their heads without ever having crossed a word with me.

From the engine fluids spray past the pillar it looks like he was speeding down the isle, slammed into the pillar and the offset impact turned the car body a bit. Probably backed away at a different angle than the impact since the front is all crooked too.
I think there is a little bit too much randomness going on in the video to be AI generated. Messy details from the real world that AI doesn't add in, but too subtle to be the result of prompting.
Not that fancy, same transmission is used by like 10-20 different marques including Mopar products (literally the same transmission is used in Jeeps, RAM trucks and Rolls-Royce) But I know the fluid from my rusty 19 year old Audi which has the old 6 speed but came with updated software that requires the newer fluid from the 8 speed.
But I must say, it's an excellent fluid. 400k km on the original fluid and filter before it started giving trouble at -30C (fixed by the fluid and filter change). And this transmission is actually more mechanically complex and finicky than the newer 8 speed ones so imagine how long those might last if someone decides to replace the fluid at ZF's suggested interval rather than BMW or Audi's "lifetime" spec lol
That’s a bit dehumanizing. Some people go grey early in life and the guy is probably crumpled over because he’s in shock. Someone with long grey hair deserves to be part of society as much as anyone else.
Second, I can sympathize with older people who avoid giving up their licenses. We have built an individualistic society that expects everyone to fend for themselves. It would be difficult to find/pay a driver every time you need something at the store, have a medical appointment, want to get your hair cut, want to take a walk by the water, etc. Even if they had the social network for it, they’d feel like a nuisance. Nobody wants to close the chapter on the independent part of their life, even when it is time.
Both my grandpas gave up their driving licenses this year after nearly killing themselves and other people, and were devastated. So I definitely understand how it feels.
But they might've killed people. We really had to talk them through not driving anymore. Old people really must understand it's not about them, it's about the safety an life of others.
I hope I remember that when I get old.
Yeah I agree that it’s a hard thing, even when it is ultimately the best thing for society. I think in our minds, we are always our best selves with the same capabilities as we have already had. It’s hard to accept if your reflex time is no longer adequate or if you aren’t as strong as you were before…even worse to accept it when dementia is involved.
I hope I’ll be able to set my life up to allow me to give up my drivers licence when the time comes, but I totally get why it is such a struggle for some. It’s going to involve moving to a more walkable area for me, and that’s got a big price tag that many can’t afford.

can confirm. i'm disabled, and I really shouldn't be driving given all the medications i'm on. I have to plan two days ahead to get all my meds timed right if I want to drive a car, and I basically have to trade pain management for alertness. So I'm awake and tetchy if i'm driving.
my car weighs 3000 pounds. my bike was already 75 pounds before I slapped a motor on her. Together we're about 300 pounds of rolling furry. We top out at 30mph, 20 if i'm not going down a hill. If i'm going to fuck up and cause an accident in traffic because my consciousness is altered, i'm the only one getting hurt.

I think there is a little bit too much randomness going on in the video to be AI generated. Messy details from the real world that AI doesn't add in, but too subtle to be the result of prompting.

Lifeguard Fluid 8 is blue or green, I forgot which exactly but definitely not red.
This would more likely be coolant, though I'm not sure what colour coolant modern BMWs use

Fair enough. I’ve checked levels on a good number of transmissions over the years but never a fancy BMW’s. Possibly also power steering fluid.

Not that fancy, same transmission is used by like 10-20 different marques including Mopar products (literally the same transmission is used in Jeeps, RAM trucks and Rolls-Royce) But I know the fluid from my rusty 19 year old Audi which has the old 6 speed but came with updated software that requires the newer fluid from the 8 speed.
But I must say, it's an excellent fluid. 400k km on the original fluid and filter before it started giving trouble at -30C (fixed by the fluid and filter change). And this transmission is actually more mechanically complex and finicky than the newer 8 speed ones so imagine how long those might last if someone decides to replace the fluid at ZF's suggested interval rather than BMW or Audi's "lifetime" spec lol

That’s a bit dehumanizing. Some people go grey early in life and the guy is probably crumpled over because he’s in shock. Someone with long grey hair deserves to be part of society as much as anyone else.
Second, I can sympathize with older people who avoid giving up their licenses. We have built an individualistic society that expects everyone to fend for themselves. It would be difficult to find/pay a driver every time you need something at the store, have a medical appointment, want to get your hair cut, want to take a walk by the water, etc. Even if they had the social network for it, they’d feel like a nuisance. Nobody wants to close the chapter on the independent part of their life, even when it is time.

Both my grandpas gave up their driving licenses this year after nearly killing themselves and other people, and were devastated. So I definitely understand how it feels. But they might've killed people. We really had to talk them through not driving anymore. Old people really must understand it's not about them, it's about the safety an life of others. I hope I remember that when I get old.

Yeah I agree that it’s a hard thing, even when it is ultimately the best thing for society. I think in our minds, we are always our best selves with the same capabilities as we have already had. It’s hard to accept if your reflex time is no longer adequate or if you aren’t as strong as you were before…even worse to accept it when dementia is involved.
I hope I’ll be able to set my life up to allow me to give up my drivers licence when the time comes, but I totally get why it is such a struggle for some. It’s going to involve moving to a more walkable area for me, and that’s got a big price tag that many can’t afford.

can confirm. i'm disabled, and I really shouldn't be driving given all the medications i'm on. I have to plan two days ahead to get all my meds timed right if I want to drive a car, and I basically have to trade pain management for alertness. So I'm awake and tetchy if i'm driving.

Someone who's, IMO, too old to be driving anything. He should be on his city's version of Old Age Taxis with reduced fares and local drop off points.
