Same game and same thought. You mean I get to be a multimillionaire farmer girl who's dating every single eligible bachelor(ette) in the valley simultaneously? I'd give my million dollar prize back if it means I get to stay.
Minecraft. Honestly, send me into the wilderness where I can build a little log cabin by a lake, make furniture, and live off the land. And the only people around are some zombies who don't try to talk to you. Keep your million.
Normally cars can’t enter areas with people. On the off chance they do, they clip right through the people. Also the game basically encourages you to do 1,000ft+ jumps and there’s no damage if you turn it off.
Damn it's been a couple of years since I last played NMS... Should probably try to hop back in to see what kind of updates there's been. Probably a ton
I think that might be the best of the "worse" options actually. I assume after the year you get back to real live the same form you left. So you can't become a powerful wizard because you spent a year in . You also can't take any items back.
So spend one year of hedonism, drugs, sex and debauchery. Even cut of a few of your limbs, get a cybernetic sex change, just try everything. Because after a year you will be freed of all the consequence. No scars, no addiction, no bullethole.
Project zomboid on easy settings (low amount of zombies, zombies are dumb, high amount of loot and easy skill gain). I'd take it. Even regular settings would be a dream in comparison to dealing with state violence, so I'd be pretty happy.
Overwatch. It looks fun from the outside, but I'm forced to participate in short matches where I repeatedly die, come back and kill cute yet soulless people all day long, for a year.
I started eating people on day 3. There is a hole were my humanity used to be. A hole that can only be filed by trembling, bloody, screaming flesh.
The hamster was first.
He was easy.
Then, month after month, I got through the rest of the roster, each one with a different bottle of wine from the Paris deathmatch map. Now my appetite, form and spirit have grown beyond what is humanly conceivable. When the map loads and they see me, they all run and shriek as my many mouths start tearing through their ever fresh, juicy bodies. As if they too were starting to remember their unending, inescapable demise.
One day it will end, but in the meantime I need to feel their bones break and heartbeats fade on my tongues.
Such delicious marrow. Such delicious broth.
Pretty good, tbh. I've been playing Palworld and I think I'd do okay, even if I got dropped into a permadeath server. Yeah you gotta grind, but you don't really have to do much of anything, the pals do basically everything for you.
Game I've been playing the last couple of days is high-ish-magic medieval-style fantasy, which isn't the worst world to live in. Question is whether the protagonists have been through the area yet, otherwise there's nonzero risk of dying from supernatural creature attack or evil cults, on top of goblins and orcs which probably aren't any worse than historic "barbarian" attacks but deadly all the same.
Do you have access to magic? Because if you're just a normal person in a medieval world you have a pretty high chance of dying from an infection from some random small injury, and never mind the monsters or whatever.
Alternatively, if you are an NPC with plot armor you're probably good.
Medieval societies already had some division of labor, even actual medieval medicine experts generally knew enough to treat small cuts. Since it's a relatively high-magic world (Divinity's Rivellon), chances are decent that they have actual healing magic, too (whether that's actually accessible to peasants and random foreigners is another matter TBF). So I'm not saying the medicine I could access would necessarily be great from a rich western country's perspective, but trying to survive there for a year isn't exactly a death sentence, either. Lots of other game worlds would be way worse.
Also, I'm already severely chronically ill and contemporary medicine was so far unable to do anything about it. Actual magic might just do the trick.
I'm rank 175 40 minute excursions into hell are one thing, but I already live in an authoritarian, kakistocracy dystopia in the real world, I do not need to live in one turned up to 11.
RDR2 for me as well. At least there's options. I would probably play it safe by ditching the gang before I contract tuberculosis and just live as a hunter up in the mountains. The mechanics of the game would make that quite easy compared to IRL.
Witcher 3. I might be a little fucked, but I think I'd have fun before I died. Maybe I could get lucky and be one of the rich folks in a city and live peacefully for a year.
So I get a million dollars and I'm stuck in a house banging 6 women for a year. I think my wife would wonder where I disappeared to for a year but the million would probably smooth things over.
Baba is you I think was the last one. So like, I could become all walls or space, or might accidentally make myself nothing… so a fraught existence for sure
PUBG. Im gonna get murdered a lot, but at least death isnt final, given respawns exist. At least the pubg maps are quite large and interesting to explore.
Well, I would be royally screwed. I cannot explain why at all due to major spoilers, but I would be stuck in Pokemon Rejuvenation. If you have played the game up until the current final chapter or at least know the story, you know why I am royally screwed.
All I can say is being in the official pokemon game with the most villainous and successful evil team would be paradise because at least I know nobody really ever dies, NPC or otherwise.
You'll sit in a capsule for all that time in interplanetary space or abandoned on the surface of some celestial body. Pray that there's no life support mods installed. In any case, you'll go mad
I don't even know what would happen with Balatro, do I get to be a Jimbo? Could I be Blueprint, or do I just get to the something useless like Matador?
That actually sounds pretty ideal. I'd just do what i do in the game anyway. Ride my horse, pick flowers, collect skins, camp. Occasionally go into town to get supplies and unload my furs.
But I'd end up in Spiderman. Do i get to be Spiderman or just some shmo on the street?
Just HAD to play a Helldivers 2 match last night didn't I.... Well I mean zomboid with 1 out of 5 zombies being a runner probably ain't gonna do me no favors either.... I'm boned
I'm playing star trucker right now so I'd be golden. Just one year of hauling cargo, customizing my rig and doing the occasional EVA to salvage expensive jetsam. Where do I sign?
i wouldn’t consider that to be too terrible. It’s beautiful and you can entertain yourself nearly endlessly outside of the narrative.
Unfortunately for me I last played 76 to see what had changed. And I’d definitely go mad since i’ve basically done and seen it all outside of some builds i want to try.
i wouldn’t consider that to be too terrible. It’s beautiful and you can entertain yourself nearly endlessly outside of the narrative.
I get your point, but you're overlooking the fact that you'd have to be extremely skilled and self sufficient by modern standards to be able to survive in the 1800s for a year without any modern comforts and technology..
I for one would die or go insane in a few months, I think. Either that or thrive so much that I'll never want to go back 🤷🏻😁
Oh yeah, when you put it that way… I do have some survival skills from growing up in the country, but the culture is what’d probably do me in. I’d misunderstand someone and get waxed pretty fast most likely.
God of War (2018). Fimbrulwinter hasn't started yet, and he stays away from populated areas. So long as I don't do anything to piss off the Odin and his kin I should be fine
If I'm playing, you're going to immediately become great at almost everything (by having your every need fulfilled while you study like a manically ambitious lunatic) and become super wealthy and successful until I get bored and leave you alone after a few in-game weeks.
Assuming I remember to turn autonomy back on and you carry on after I close the game, you're gonna have a pretty great year once you're over the extreme stress (that you're not going to register due to said needs staying static) of those weeks 😄
Do I have to climb the mountain? Can I respawn? Can I dash? So many questions... I would love to parkour around if I didn't die. But most of my time would probably be spent just living in a cabin or something.
I'm screwed, Super earth is calling. I can't not pick up the phone (Helldivers 2) (regardless of what role I'm in even not as diver but a civie I'm screwed)
You mean I can like, be in VrChat? Like my character, and my friends, and all these amazing places to go to? Dude sign me up, that's my escape from reality.
Wandering Alchemist. There's people now roaming around the world buying potions, and I can harvest random plants, shove them into a potion, and they'll buy it. Seems good. I'm making money! Maybe! Real life but with people just going "I'll buy a potion with shielding and energy in it!"
the monkey paw curls and you end up as a regular guest in a playthrough by someone who tortures all their guests using flamethrowers, fireworks, electric zapping, and crashing things into you.
Dwarf fortress lol. I think if I did not have a family I could go there for free for a year. Benefits: I can get some cool skills relatively fast and they seem to be having a jolly good time in the Inn.
Say what you will about attraction mechanics and FOMO, but logging in to do Star Trek Online event daily missions keeps me sittin' pretty in all these hypotheticals.
Palworld. Eh, I don't hate it: farming, catching some pals now and then, idealic environments and weather. As long as I steer clear of the big legendary pals I should have no problems.
Life in Sanctuary is rough, especially after the destruction of the Worldstone. I've been staying in Westmarch, which should be pretty safe until my year is up.
I tried learning magic, but it only seems to work for people born here, so I'm working as a blacksmith. I'm the greatest metallurgist in the world and have "invented" the steam hammer. They don't have potatoes but the food is otherwise decent.
But not a day goes by that I don't regret this decision. I didn't have a chance to tell my wife and kids where I was going... they probably think I'm either dead or left them. My job and likely my home will be gone. My dad might be gone too. Don't get me wrong, a million dollars is a lot of money. But I already had a good life and fear I may have wrecked it.
I think I may have accidentally brought corona with me here. No need to tell anyone about that one. I just hope nothing comes back home with me.
Last game I played is Hitman, so as long as I’m not a target, enforcer, in 47’s way, or in the world of a kill everyone run, I think I’d do just fine. I guess it depends on the map, but it’s mostly just the real world. So not much change I don’t think. If I can choose which map and my reason for being there I might not wanna go back actually.
This is all assuming I can explain it to my family. I’m not sure I actually wanna miss a year of my baby’s life, so in actuality I would never do it, but if I had to do it, I think I’d do just fine.
I hear what sounds like an instrument, and some other noise...
I can hear the crowd quietly enjoying themselves.
All of a sudden the lights go up. By some unusual force, my arms raise up.. and down... and up.. and... I'm swaying....
I can't control it. The person next to me seems to be doing the same thing.
I look around and notice that we all are.
Then I hear it. Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud... The kick drum sets the beat.
Not long after, the bass guitar...
Then I see something flying overhead. A huge, green UFO.
The guitarist plays a note and with it, the UFO explodes.
2 more UFOs fly down in quick succession - and both explode.
Then it happens. It must have been at least 30 UFOs. Green, Orange, Red, Blue, Yellow, Yellow, Blue, Green... Some were flying in pairs.. Some even 3 aside.
Hardly any of them were getting destroyed. Most flew right overhead as the band played. Well, I say the band played - the guitarist was fucking awful.
Well that depends, am I the "main character", if so do I start at the beginning or where I left off?
I mean, either way in satisfactory I don't require sleep or food or drink, unless I take damage and need to eat some nuts or berries. So just avoid the local wildlife until I get the hover pack.
I remember my first time playing and not wanting to wander too far from the grassy spawn because of all the hostile fauna and unfamiliar terrain.
Now with the hover pack, a full island-spanning rail network with power pylons, dimensional depots with packaged fuel and a jetpack, I'm constantly zipping across the place and half the time I have no idea where exactly I am but I'm just hopping over the wildlife and on the off chance something hits me and I'm offended, I'll toss a nuke at it before flying off.
I just unlocked the nuclear pasta milestone and am currently working on getting the nuclear power situation sorted while I wait for my very slow factories to pump out the space elevator bits.
I could do without ADA trying not to sound like GLaDOS-lite, but I can live with an annoying bot.
The other game I played today was Project zomboid, and as the title card says every time you start a new game, "this is how [I] died"
Legit didn't even last 5 minutes in my starting character in a new world today. Looted the spawn house, leveled a little bit of carpentry and cooking, then got bit in the fucking driveway because I miss-timed my swing. I had a shotgun and axe, too...

I like that people assume they'll be the main character and not just a random NPC.
For instance in GTA you might just have your current life while some gangsters buy burgers.
Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 14h
I'm not assuming that, though.
I don't know about you, but I'm in no way equipped to take care of myself in the 1800s using no modern technology for a year 😄
Doublenut@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 20h
That actually sounds pretty ideal. I'd just do what i do in the game anyway. Ride my horse, pick flowers, collect skins, camp. Occasionally go into town to get supplies and unload my furs.
But I'd end up in Spiderman. Do i get to be Spiderman or just some shmo on the street?

i wouldn’t consider that to be too terrible. It’s beautiful and you can entertain yourself nearly endlessly outside of the narrative.
Unfortunately for me I last played 76 to see what had changed. And I’d definitely go mad since i’ve basically done and seen it all outside of some builds i want to try.
Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 14h
I get your point, but you're overlooking the fact that you'd have to be extremely skilled and self sufficient by modern standards to be able to survive in the 1800s for a year without any modern comforts and technology..
I for one would die or go insane in a few months, I think. Either that or thrive so much that I'll never want to go back 🤷🏻😁
sleepmode@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3h
Oh yeah, when you put it that way… I do have some survival skills from growing up in the country, but the culture is what’d probably do me in. I’d misunderstand someone and get waxed pretty fast most likely.

The room is dark.
