That's what you get when just about every white kid 5-17yrs was in a McDojo, trying to be Daniel-san, and the leftover ones started choosing ninjas over karate kids. 🤷🏼♂️
I remember this era it was like if you weren't a ninja, training to become a ninja, or doing some kind of ninja support work—it was like wtf are you doing? Are you a nonja? A fucken... noneja? Go back to your dojo and try harder.
Also a spoonful of orientalism mixed in there, as my culture likes to do.
Oh, it was before 1990. I was a teenager in the 80s and there was a lot of ninjas in movies, cartoons and graphic novels by 1987, I'd say, with it all starting before then.
Some ninjas persisted into the 2000s by shifting into the prankster niche. They might still be around but they are ninjas and very good at hiding so I can never be sure.

What if ninjas are always everywhere but in the 90s they weren’t that sneaky?

Apparently it's still the 90s in BotW-era Hyrule because I can't hardly go anywhere without getting ambushed by banana-obsessed ninjas.

For all we know, they could still be around. Who can tell with ninjas?

Now all of those secret, stealthy ninja's have been replaced by flock cameras. /s

Daredevil was a super-popular comic at the time, along with X-Men [featuring Wolverine]
Daredevil fought a ninja army called 'The Hand,' and the near-immortal Wolverine was revealed to have studied the ninja arts in his past.
That lead to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who fought The Foot Clan.

Also daredevil was taught by Stick. But the tmnt had to settle for a Splinter.
DagwoodIII@piefed.social · 2 pts · 23h
I never picked up on that.
I'll eschew tastelessness and not make a blind joke.

When you think about it, the ninja you see has already failed (unless of course there’s a second ninja using the distraction).
