Justice Department officials said on Jan. 13 there is "no basis" for an investigation into the killing of Renee Nicole Good, the mother of three whose fatal shooting by an immigration enforcement agent sparked protests across the country.
"There is currently no basis for a criminal civil rights investigation," Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement referring to Good.
The 37-year-old was fatally shot on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jonathan Ross, when she moved her car forward near the ICE agent. Her death has inspired widespread protests against the Trump administration’s militarized use of the Department of Homeland Security.

To be clear tho, the problem was the moderate wing controlling the party, and that's already been solved with the last DNC chair election. And if a nonbiased primary gets us a progressive, they get to name the DNC chair the next four years.
Shit was real bad during the great depression, but that's what it took to get "moderate" voters onboard with progress. It's why incremental improvement never works, once it's "good enough" for one person, they stop fighting for what others want, even tho it took those other people to get "good enough" for the people who abandon them.
It's one of the biggest reasons for our shitty cyclic history, people unwilling to finish the fight once personally appeased.

Red lining, no bankruptcy for student loan borrowers, removing the public option before negotiations even began on Romney’s old healthcare bill, teaming up with Hillary to steal the nom from Bernie twice, refusing to ask Merrick Garland to do anything about Trump’s J6 insurrection until 2023, and Israel First policy.
I could go on but hopefully you get the point. Yes Repugs are notorious obstructionists, but Dems are all too eager to do nothing or worse when they get power and it shows with our rapid decline into a fascist authoritarian state.

I'm reminded of how justice is served on the ice in a hockey game. If a player executes an illegal, dangerous hit on another player, especially if the victim is the goalie or a star player, and the refs don't call shit, then that guy is about to get his ass beat.
There will be consequences, even if the DoJ refuses to act. The heat is rising on this cold civil war. When trump crowns himself head of the fed and slashes interest rates, and when the dollar crashes soon thereafter, shit's gonna get crazy.
I'm also predicting that somebody high up in this administration refers to America as an "empire" and then a "realm" and possibly just straight up a "reich" within this year.

That seems to be the thing the administration fails to understand, accountability through apparent investigations and prosecutions mollify the anger. Even if consequences are by any reasonable measure are mild, people are still mollified at an acknowledgement of wrong doing. Deny them this, and the anger rises...
Similarly, being able to lose an election has similar value. Your opponents "won" they don't need to extract more out of you. Deny them that and again people are going to potentially break.
Anecdotally, I know of a few people that seem shockingly close to violent uprising that I never would have guessed. I can't imagine the volume of people closer to extreme views and when they will snap..

The real depressing news is in the linked article, where a survey showed only 53% of respondents thought the shooting was unjustified (35% thought it was justified, rest gave no opinion). I don't understand how you see that video and come away with any other conclusion unless you're just being actively partisan.

I always get frustrated and roll my eyes when a article says after we did a massive survey 80 percent think the sky red in America! And they don't tell you what that survey is or the questions are or the sample size, usually when they do you find out the questions are misleading to get the numbers whoever is doing it wants, like fox News surveys poll certain states and the questions will be stuff like "if a ice agent is getting run over by a car is it justified for them to shoot" and a more left leaning poll would be " can ice agents kill anyone that is running away from them no questions asked". Obviously these aren't best examples but I'm sure the point is clear that survey says is bullshit, it's like the IASIP episode of family feed, surveys mean nothing

You understand completely, most of those folks didn't watch the video(s) and if they've seen any footage of the incident it's shortened clips that are edited to be disingenuous at best and downright lies at worst.
I don't know what it is about people that make them think any law enforcement officer, ever, should be putting themselves in front of a vehicle when there is no danger to the community or bystanders if the person just left. It 100% is on that officer, that man should be locked up in prison.
It's despicable, disgusting, and frankly un-American what is going on and sadly it's going to keep going on until more blood is spilled.

Uhhh... uh oh. Considering the immediate and widespread outrage response across the country from this very public murder, this is a boldly stupid move. Resentment and distrust of the US government is already at an all time high, and doubling down on an extrajudicial murder like this is only going to not only grow that resentment, but popularize the idea that if the people want justice, they'll have to do it themselves. This administration has been making some especially stupid moves recently and I don't think the world is prepared for the consequences. Like yeah, sure, the trump admin has always blahblahblah, no shit. I must emphasize that this particular term of the administration hasn't even been this stupid until the last few months. They are very much so overplaying their hand right now and they are absolutely not in a position to handle this level of escalation. I'm pretty sure they both think they have way more control than they actually do and have way too much faith in very inadequate contingencies. They're gonna continue having the appearance of being firmly in control, but at this rate, it's just a matter of time before it blows up in their face and then no one is in control. I can't emphasize enough how unprepared we all are for how quickly that will happen when it does.

I mean, sure? Probably even? But this really only emphasizes my point that they're straight up stupid and beyond incompetent. Even the Romans, for how brutal they were, understood the importance of civic justice in maintaining the continued rule of the state. If the state no longer maintains it's judiciary responsibility, they've basically abdicated their own legitimacy. You can say that the state isn't abdicating it's legitimacy if it at least is bound by some of it's laws, but if the state picks and chooses, is the state not directly questioning it's own legitimacy? I should point out that it's hyperbolic for me to say that the state not binding itself to any one law abdicates it's legitimacy, but there are certain points of judiciary responsibility that will greatly erode the legitimacy of the state if it doesn't maintain them or at least appear to. A very public murder like this is definitely one of those points. Erosion of state legitimacy brings a fragmentation of those that would maintain it's power, and I really don't think they're considering this factor at all. Those in essential positions within the government will become less inclined to maintain their loyalty to the state and be much more tempted to join those seeking to resist the state's existence. Setting this precedence sets this administration on a trajectory to an untenable position. The waning loyalty and increasing sentiment of resistance isn't something that is generally very visible until it VERY much so is. They seem to think they can keep literally and figuratively shooting at us, but it won't be surprising to those paying attention when more and more of "their own" start shooting back at them.

I find it highly unlikely that Republicans will vote to impeach/convict one of their own. The impeachment charges are little more than theater, which is sadly all the elected Democrats in the House and Senate are in a position to do. How to get around the federal blockade of the investigation, for one. How to get access to critical evidence like the gun and the autopsy report. How to get past the multiple claims of immunity the defense will try to exercise. How to build a strong case even without key evidence in spite of federal efforts to shut it down at every level, at every step.
This is not a once and done. There is no statute of limitations for murder, even as public consent to the excesses of this regime is obviously past its sell-by date. In both respects, the MN AG has all the time in the world, and is wise to use it.

The difference between a blue state and red state is often times just a few percentage points of voting. This is not a good idea. Also there are so many amazing Democrats who have no choice but to live in red states. Moving is really expensive. Will you be willing to pay everyone's moving expenses? How will we afford a home or apartment in another state? Will we all have jobs? You will hurt a countless number of people if this happens.

I am smack dab in a red state because of all the rural counties.... The blue areas around major cities isn't enough to FL blue.

I'm very grateful you do that! It does all add up. Hopefully Democrats can start having real conversations with other people, I don't mean trying to change the most die-hard MAGA-type person but there are lots of people who don't think much about politics, are undecided or independent. If we can reach those people in masses I think it could start causing a shift from red to blue and hopefully it's enough to save our country.

Every protestor should be openly armed. At their core, ICE agents are just slightly older school bullies - cowards in other words. If they knew that the protestors would respond in kind there's no way they would risk shooting anyone.
