“You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time – I will be,” Tucker Carlson said. “And I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional, that’s all I’ll say.”
Though Carlson in 1999 had referred to Trump as “the single most repulsive person on the planet”, he beat most pundits in calling for Trump to be taken seriously before he won his first presidency in 2016.
Trump recently published a social media post calling Carlson “a Low IQ person – Always easy to beat, and highly overrated!!!”
FFS now I agree with Trump ?

In a few months, these people will have always been against Trump, and they'll hate us when we call them on it, because despite everything they've done so far, they still think they're better off than with a Democrat in charge.

Tucker Carlson doesn't disagree with anything Trump has done, he's just smart enough to tell when to jump ship. This is a strategic move
Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 123d
Eh, we have leaked emails from Fox news where Tucker did say he hated Trump and thought he was an idiot during the first admin, not that it stopped him from gargling his balls.
Keeponstalin@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 123d
Yeah exactly, because Trump lacks any strategy. Just look how little manufacturing consent went into the Iran war compared to the Iraq war. Trump is so idiotic he says the quiet part out loud because He's too stupid to understand the point of dog whistles. Carlson wants a competent White Nationalist administration, his issue is with the incompetency.
But even so, whenever in public view, Carlson is very very deliberate and strategic with how he communicates white nationalism sentiments to his audience. He knows exactly the right way to broach topics, which words to hit, ect, in order to get the audience (be it MAGA or Liberals) on his side.

It honestly is funny to me either way, because it reads like he's being straight faced talking a out stormwater mitigation.
But I do think it's intended to point out a lot of the morons that voted for trump did so for some real reasons, very misguided (and intentionally so by the right wing news apparatus) but real reasons.

YOU are the problem. If you keep telling politicians that you expect them to do nothing, that's exactly what they'll do. They just go back to their insider trading, and ignore you, like you told them to do. Don't give them permission to be incompetent.
We are in unprecedented times, and we will require unprecedented solutions. We absolutely cannot fall back on the same morally and legally bankrupt political policies traditions that led us here. If we manage to recover Congress and the White House AGAIN, then they will have the obligation to follow the mandate of the voters, and DO THEIR JOB!
It's not like they'll have a choice. The government is in tatters now, imagine what it will be like in 2 years? The government will need to be completely rebuilt. Thousands of government workers will be invited back to their jobs. Entire agencies will have to be reformed, and MAGA hires and appointees investigated and fired or indicted. Nobody hired by MAGA can remain.
As long as we have to rebuild, we can go in any direction we want. We don't have to rebuild the same broken system that brought us to this point.
And we absolutely can't allow them to let MAGA off the hook, "for the good of the country." America can't recover, and can't redeem itself in the eyes of its Citizens, the World, and History, until MAGA has been decisively crushed, and purged from our government, and society.
Poojabber@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 123d
Well, you sure are the hopefull sort... me? Not so much. Who do you forsee going to jail? I doubt anyone is getting more than a slap on the wrist, or much more than a Tucker Carlson style "I guess we shouldnt have done that... but we didnt mean it" style apology, if that. Death sentence? Hahaha not happening.
But heres to you mate! Never wished I was on the wrong side of a discussion more than now.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 123d
YOU are the problem. If you keep telling politicians that you expect them to do nothing, that's exactly what they'll do. They just go back to their insider trading, and ignore you, like you told them to do. Don't give them permission to be incompetent.
We should be telling them every chance we get that we will absolutely NOT tolerate their political cowardice any longer. We are in the mood for change, and we will gladly swap out any recalcitrant Democrats, right along with the MAGAs.
And they are getting the message. Last Fall, as Americans were going hungry, they stuck with the shutdown, until it hit the airports, and their wealthy campaign donors couldn't maneuver their operatives around the country. So the Dems fully surrendered, with nothing in return, and the Dem voters went NUTS, and it scared them, especially Jeffries. Schumer is too blinded by his greed and allegiance to Israel to umderstand how much he is despised. When this is over, he deserves a noose as much as any MAGA.
So this time when the shutdown hit the airports, the Dems knew to just let it play out, and it was glorious. It only hurt those flying during Spring Break, which is mostly rich people anyway. They were forced to stand in line for hours, contemplating the wisdom of their MAGA vote. This time the shutdown hurt MAGA as intended, and it continues to hurt them.
We need to apply a LOT more pain on both sides, and make them FEAR our massive angry numbers more than they fear the tiny minority of wealthy. Then we can force them to submit to our demands when we take the government back.
pfried@reddthat.com · 3 pts · 123d
The way to cause pain on both sides is to primary the Democrats who aren't helping and vote against all Republicans because none of them are helping. If you vote against Democrats in the general election, you are not causing pain to both sides. You're telling Republicans to continue.

I’m torn. Obviously the likes of Carlson and Rogen et. al. need to answer for their support. On the other hand, I’m not sure making them wear a hairshirt or scarlet “T” for the rest of their lives– while warranted– actually gets us closer to where we need to be, which is free of Trump and the other despots.

How they are punished is less about how impactful it will be for them than it is about setting an example for the next generation of dumb, greedy assholes who might be aiming to follow in their footsteps. “Hmm. blitzen@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 124d
I'm not torn as it pertains to Carlson. I too think he needs to do more than a simple "oops, my bad." I'm just aware of the fact that while we cannot excuse past actions, drawing too hard a line when acknowledging remorse can have adverse consequences.
