To the Wes Andersonmobile!

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 41 pts · 1d (7 replies)

That pic is kind of beautiful.

recursivethinking@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 23h

Honestly it took me a while to convince myself this wasn't a painting. At one stage I wondered if it was a Wes Anderson set.

SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world · 12 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Much better framing.

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 1d

Thanks. What is that old saying? Art is knowing when to stop and how to frame it.

::: spoiler spoiler

I just made that up basing it kind of on a quote from 6 degrees of separation

It looks like it was taken with a quality 90s camera. Idk there’s something about the lighting and low saturation that makes me think, “this hasn’t gone through the ML algorithms phones automatically put on photos taken with them”.

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 10h (2 replies)

Have you ever played https://www.worldguessr.com/ ? A lot of the guessing has to do with the light. I can sometimes tell Southern France from Florida because one is brighter. It doesn't always work, but sometimes it does.

FundMECFS@piefed.zip · 3 pts · 9h (1 reply)

funny you say that I used to be a massive Geoguessr addict when it was free. And yeah light was very useful. Though I quit after a while because I realised I wasnt truly learning to recognise landscapes just like road infrastructure and what google street view run the photo was from ahah.

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 9h

I like world guesser because you can play against people on a timer. For me, it was everything combined. I count it as a video game, lol. I play every so often, but not that often anymore.

SGGeorwell@lemmy.world · 71 pts · 1d (1 reply)

This is more than mildly interesting. I’d say it’s somewhat interesting. Dare I say it’s intriguing?

EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml · 15 pts · 1d

Color me intrigued 🧐

HubertManne@piefed.social · 39 pts · 1d (8 replies)

how do they get the car down?

aeronmelon@lemmy.world · 46 pts · 1d

Floor it!

AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml · 38 pts · 1d (4 replies)

You can see an itty bitty crane lol

But really they should have made a small "garage" and a ramp instead.

HubertManne@piefed.social · 11 pts · 1d (3 replies)

you know I was trying to figure out if that was what it was but I was like. no way.

AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml · 11 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Thinking about it, technically that doesn't even need to be that complex with hydraulics, just a sturdy arm and a winch. But it's still kind of wasted, extra weight for no reason compared to putting the bed or storage above a garage.

Anyway really awesome tiny house.

StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Though it makes a neat little deck once the car is relocated. It'd be fantastic in the forest at night.

AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 1d

Yeah but the whole roof is premium space. I'd put solar panels over the whole surface. But you could also make a big deck to walk on with maybe a deployable balustrade. Or maybe even some kind of very low roof greenhouse lol. Lots of creative ideas for tiny houses.

whaleross@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1d

Looks like they have a crane up there, but if it breaks you have to find an appropriate height overpass.

Mighty@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 1d

No way!!! I saw that same truck a few days ago in Germany. It must be the exact same, because it's pretty recognizable and unique.

Zephyr@sh.itjust.works · 17 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I want to see the process of getting that car down. I see what I think is a crane arm.

qupada@fedia.io · 12 pts · 1d

Looks like a davit designed for loading a small boat onto a larger boat.

Here, we apparently see the land lubber's version of the same.

aeronmelon@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 1d (1 reply)

That truck has a shuttle craft.

daychilde@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1d

For some reason, your comment put Seagulls in my head (that log had a child!) lol

Dearth@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1d (1 reply)

All it needs is a couple bikes hanging from the back of the car and it's my dream vehicle

ramenshaman@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1d

I bet they have bikes inside

tangeli@piefed.social · 8 pts · 1d (6 replies)

I hope that's some kind of hardpan sand, not the soft stuff at the beaches I go to. Or that those vehicles are all amphibious. That picture makes me feel very anxious.

BrambinagStoneboots@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1d (2 replies)

It is likely on Rømø, they have big beaches where you can officially drive on. Which is not that common here in northern Europe.

cosmicrookie@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 1d

It's in Saltum beach. As far as i know its officially a road

VonReposti@feddit.dk · 4 pts · 1d

2-3km wide to put a number on it.

just2look@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Just looking at how little the semi sunk into the sand, I would guess it is pretty hard. As long as they don't get too crazy I dont think driving back out would be an issue at all.

tangeli@piefed.social · 8 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I drove on a beach once. It was fine. Easy going. Beautiful. Exhilarating. Until, abruptly, the tires sunk in and it wasn't. Once they sink in, even just a little bit, it is extremely difficult to get out. It was one of the stupider things I have ever done. I've never done it again.

just2look@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 1d

Oh I know how difficult sand can be. Especially for people unfamiliar with it. Any sudden acceleration, braking, or turning and you can bury your vehicle. Takes a lot of finesse. That sand looks fairly consistent though, and based on other comments is frequently driven on. So as long as the water doesn't come up that far it should be well packed and easy to drive on.

whereitsat@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 9h (1 reply)

what's interesting about it?

it looks like another well-off person cosplaying as a poor as a lifestyle. the semi itself probably cost 200k.

crimsonpoodle@pawb.social · 3 pts · 8h

Could just be middle class retirees; with the cost of housing 200k truck + 150 trailer is pretty competitive.

Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 20h

I'm astonished by the fact that's on sand on a beach...

Nothing is towing that giant thing if it gets stuck.

abbadon420@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 1d (5 replies)

Interesting, but why is it driving on the beach? Doesn't it sink in with that weight?

SmoothOperator@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 1d (1 reply)

There are beaches on the Danish west coast where the sand is plenty compacted, completely fine for driving. At least for passenger cars.

I would be hesitant with a truck, but seems to be going well.

igorette@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 1d

Yes. This could be the beach of Rømø There was an oldtimer convention this weekend I think Even military planes are landing and starting there

BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Does it look like it's sinking?

abbadon420@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I wonder what it is sinking about.

wake@quokk.au · 6 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I wonder about the weight and how it was built. I'm guessing it doesn't weigh much if they can get away with a single axle trailer.

Bixcut@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

I'd guess that the total gcwr is 40-50k lbs.

antianarchist@sopuli.xyz · 5 pts · 1d (3 replies)

Of course, a Swiss fucker.

But, to be honest, it looks cool as fuck and is probably super luxurious.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 17h (2 replies)

Of course, a Swiss fucker.

? Is there a reputation?

antianarchist@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 16h

Not that I am aware of. But there are some tendencies. Dutch drive the smallest, oldest caravan, Swiss the most luxurious, and Germans the average Fiat

GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 14h

For the Swiss? No, not at all, unless you count amoral greed, political cowardice, and unfounded arrogance. Europes personal tax oasis, inhabited by the most spineless, fuck you i got mine population. As long as the corrupt money comes in and the poors stay out the country is happy.

This is absolutely perfect buy the truck and the trailer. Build a ramp that lets you get the car off the top and put it back.

BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 16h (2 replies)

Fiat 500. Interesting curiosity. But I'd never want to daily drive it. It's a rat cage on wheels.
