kaklerbitmap@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3h

I'm surprised the little icon/graphics for "paint swipes" and "jizz" matched what they were bullets for - so often I see AI posters with little icons that have nothing to do with what they're supposed to represent

panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · 79 pts · 1d (12 replies)

Just go pay a few high school students to make your flyer.

They’ll do it happily. I did stuff like this in school and I’d charge like $30/hr (15+ years ago) and everyone was very happy. Your offer should be even higher today.

If you want to make a flyer, call your local high school, ask to talk to the art or communications technology teachers, and ask what they think. The kids would love stuff for their portfolios, and I’m pretty sure kids like money too.

Or you can call your local art store, or find an artist to commission online. Or you could make a crappy flyer yourself without AI (please include date + location).

Klear@piefed.world · 66 pts · 1d (7 replies)

Just go pay a few high school students to make your flyer.

They'll likely use AI.

panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · 50 pts · 1d

Then don’t pay those kids.

You meet them, walk through what you want, price, time estimate, write it down, then check back when they’re done.

But I’m guessing that the teachers, if they’re okay with this, would point you towards the more interested kids.

thejml@sh.itjust.works · 43 pts · 1d (5 replies)

Everything I've heard and experienced being the dad of a teenager is that the kids all hate AI. She abhors it with a passion and her friends are similarly aligned against AI. For literally any use.

Now, college kids, you're probably right, but she's not there yet (and my back doesn't hurt enough yet for that).

teslekova@lemmy.ml · 7 pts · 1d

Can confirm. My friend's kid got seriously pissed that she (friend) told her (the kid) something the AI said, even though she followed it up with the right information immediately. Like, seriously pissed.

Good to see. 😄

Opisek@piefed.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 20h (3 replies)

I'm just worried about younger children, elementary school and below. They don't have the critical thinking required to "hate AI". I fear they may become highly dependent on it. This is of course up to the parents to prevent, but I don't put a lot of hope in that for the majority of people.

k0e3@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 19h (2 replies)

I didn't specifically make my kids hate AI, but my hate for it rubbed off on them (they're 12 and 10) and they always call out slop — to a point that it gets kinda annoying, actually, lol. Like, we get it little dudes, the world sucks, but you don't have to keep reminding me.

Opisek@piefed.blahaj.zone · 6 pts · 19h (1 reply)

The thing is, they still know the world before slop. Will kids who grow up with slop all around them feel the same?

k0e3@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 19h

Probably not, considering so many people who grew up in a AI-slop free world don't give give a fuck as it is. Some people just don't mind slop. AI or otherwise.

MangoPenguin@piefed.social · 11 pts · 1d

(please include date + location).

It's wild how often people leave this info off entirely, or just "the blue house on main st." like I somehow know where that is!

artifex@piefed.zip · -6 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Don’t even have to pay. Those kids usually need volunteer hours, and school events usually count. Tell them to take 2 hours to make a poster and if it’s AI they won’t get the credit.

ech@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Volunteer hours are not for being unpaid labor for any dumbass that wants a poster for their store/podcast/whatever. Any school that allows that is negligent in their duty and anyone that tries it is an asshole.

artifex@piefed.zip · 6 pts · 1d

Ah for some reason I saw the comic and interpreted it as being for some education-related event. In my area kids do get volunteer credit for doing things for school and town events.

MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works · 68 pts · 1d (4 replies)

A Comic con did this with comic artist appearing at the event. What a slap in the face.

Also the MASSIVE theft of intellectual properties.

Those are fans in costume! Comic book fans are famously shredded just like superheroes, right?

MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 9h

If it was real. There would be overweight Deadpools, methed out Harley Quinns, various Plague doctors, obligatory furries, a sea of weebs, and the random spin off comic character no one remembers but the dude wearing it is dying to tell you about it.

I did see a 7ft tall drag queen Beetlejuice once in fishnets with platform heels waiting at the snack station with me. That was actually awesome, wish I got a picture.

Comic cons are just excuses to dress up outside Halloween.

Denjin@feddit.uk · 51 pts · 1d (5 replies)

My local school (5-10yrs) is having an art exhibition for the students this week. Did they get one of the kids to design the flyer? Or maybe make it a group project? Or maybe one of the mums could spend 5 minutes in MS Paint? No? Too much effort? Let's get AI to do it instead.

cRazi_man@europe.pub · 27 pts · 1d (1 reply)

And the number of people who seem to be happy to feed pictures of their families and kids into AI astounds me.

bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 1d

All I ever hear is "they have it all anyway, why does it matter?" When I state how bad this is to feed images and video to the slop machine.

Gormadt@slrpnk.net · 13 pts · 1d

That's really sad to hear

Having it be a large collage made by the students as a collaborative project would have been SO MUCH better

bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Its actually really sad now how many people have never even heard of gimp or tux paint or paint because they just use slopbots for images. They know nothing else. Depressing.

k0e3@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 19h

At the very least, they know how to use Canva but man, but from what I remember from two minutes of using it, that shit was really barebones. Aren't they kinda AI-first now too?

ZombieCyborgFromOuterSpace@piefed.ca · 43 pts · 1d (2 replies)

I'm currently in some small French vacation towns in Southern France. Most shops have AI slop signs in their windows.

They ALL 👏 LOOK 👏 THE SAME! 👏

It's crazy! The same cartoon graphics. The same lettering. The same little dashes around the text. It's horrible.

Edit: It's even worse than I thought. There's full on AI video ads on TV and AI generated videos in historical documentaries. It's making me nauseous.

AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 1d

The infestation might be centered around the local print shop

EnsignWashout@startrek.website · 0 pts · 11h

I'm excited about the day when these shop owners learn about Furry Porn.

"I found pictures online that looked like our two shop mascots. They seem to really love each-other, Bob."

It'll be glorious.

But maybe they're all already aware and are just advertising their support for the Furry community.

"Artists"

LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz · 32 pts · 1d

My last job was small, like 4 people small. The owner loved Ai. She would use it for everything. One day i decided to redo one of her menus. Im not a graphic artist. I have no training in it at all, but i jumped on Gimp and made a prototype. She loved it and raved at how much better it was than hers. Imagine if i was an actual graphic designer...

SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 31 pts · 1d

Dude. Or when an actual musician advertises with ai art? Like, bro, you could have just used sharpie on lined paper and it would have been better. There's one like that that has signs up near where I live and every time I see it I'm just like BRUH. And then a few weeks ago at a public event I SAW THE MUSICIAN PLAYING, NEXT TO THEIR SIGN! I felt so bad for how stupid they were. Everybody avoided them like they were covered in shit. It was bad.

k0e3@lemmy.ca · 30 pts · 20h (3 replies)

Ugh, I hate these. It makes me think: you cut corners on your flyer, something everyone sees, so what kinda corners do you cut where it's hidden from your clients??

Edit: Gross, this showed up on my news feed. A marathon event in Japan got caught using AI for their poster. They said "was made by an illustrator," but later apologized saying it should have said, "made by a graphic designer." Is this what graphic designers do now? I went to school for that and freelanced about 20 years ago, but I drew my own shit or manipulated actual photos and videos that my clients gave me.

the_strange@feddit.org · 7 pts · 18h

At least they're openly advertising that they're not worth visiting. Before, you went to events like these and got immediately disappointed, now you can tell from afar. Also applies to other businesses, like restaurants.

Blackmist@feddit.uk · 6 pts · 18h

They're all over Facebook. I don't know why people do it, it makes them look like scam companies that don't exist. All with that same horrific dead smiling AI face.

Costume making and acting are arts. I consider cosplayers to be artists if they do at least one of those things (making their costume or at least acting like the character).

But that's not as funny.

I agree about putting your name on AI artwork as it's yours is questionable at best. But it's going a tad overboard with this type of stuff. If I had no access to create artwork for a flyer or skill to even know how to do it, I still wouldn't hire someone to make one for me, as a person. It would just look like dog shit and it covey the information.

As a non designer I'd use AI to make a better looking flyer. This IMO would be a reasonable use of AI. They were never going to spend money on a designer to begin with. In fact, 30 years of doing graphic design I've never had a "person" come in for a flyer. I've made hundreds for larger company and corporations, but never a "person" for a small event, at least paid, I've done a few favors for friends or voulebteered services.

I'm just saying, everything isn't AI is evil. These people aren't customers and never were, so who GAF. It's kinda like Nintendo suing all the emulators thinking those users will all buy a Switch now. They won't, or they already have.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 39 pts · 1d

If I had no access to create artwork for a flyer or skill to even know how to do it

then you wouldn't host an event for artists.

frittoBee@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 1d (1 reply)

What did people do before AI? I got a lot of flyers handed or send to me before AI was a thing. Nowadays I don't feel like I see more flyers, just that 80% of them are suddenly made by AI.

deliriousdreams@fedia.io · 1 pts · 45m

The used middling/poor Photoshop skill, theft, and cheap artists (artists who don't charge much).

PoastRotato@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 1d

I mean, people are also allowed to dislike AI art because it looks wack and there's an incredible oversaturation of it in media, which makes it feel like it's being forced on us. Not everything has to be a moral position; sometimes something just sucks because it sucks.

lyrial@anarchist.nexus · 11 pts · 1d

This is why templates exist. It is dead easy to find one that looks decent enough and it takes very little to use one.

Gormadt@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 1d

If I had no access to create artwork for a flyer or skill to even know how to do it

People have been making persistent art since the beginning of humanity with little more than their hands. You just have to have the confidence to actually do it.
