Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

Welcome to the club! I did the same thing with a meat slicer about 20 years ago. My thumb was flat at the tip of the nail for a long time, but it's grown back since then.

Turn based games are great for one handed, because you can take your time hitting the buttons. Maybe slay the spire, Inscryption or balatro if you haven't tried those yet.

• Anything turn-based, especially mouse-driven titles. Slay the Spire, Chess, Riichi Mahjong, Balatro, etc.

• Puyo Puyo Champions has a one-handed preset in its controller options. Do note that if you want to play online, only Switch is active since that's where Japan is, I can't recommend the game on other platforms.

• Kirby Air Ride uses only one button + analog stick, and any button works, so you can use L. Would have to be left hand for the original, but the sequel coming out later this month has a detailed accessibility menu, which I bet will include right-handed settings.

• Crypt of the Necrodancer is designed to be playable with just four arrows, in case anyone wanted to play it on a DDR mat. Which also means you can play with arrow keys or WASD.

• Rhythm Doctor is actually just one button.

• Rhythm Heaven Fever uses only A and B. Rhythm Heaven DS uses only stylus. The rest of the series uses d-pad as well though, so those are less playable.

• Come to think of it, any DS game that only uses stylus.

Vampire Survivors really only requires one hand, and if you use steam input to remap some buttons you can play it entirely with one hand.

For instance on the left hand side, since you navigate with the joystick, I set the d-pad to mirror the abxy buttons, and set L2 to be R1 which let's you increase the game speed after you unlock the function in game

Just about anything that is turn based. Board games ports, Roguelike games like Balatro, Slay the Spire, 9 Kings. Civilization games and Civ-likes. You can even play ttrpg ports like Baldur's Gate and Divinity but it might be a little annoying without an RPG mouse. I played a lot of Civ when my left arm was paralyzed then weirdly Wii tennis after surgery.

Point and click?

Anything on PC with a mouse/keyboard, maybe with the spacebar remapped.

I'm late, game recommendations are covered, but I can give you advice for healing your thumb. I've had the tips of my thumb and a finger glued back on as well as stitches on my fingers several times.

Blood flow to the tip is important. Squeezing a stress ball or something helps. It'll also keep the skin from healing too... tightly? If that makes sense.

Keep it dry. If you need to bandage it, do it loosely and change it often. Cotton balls work really well to keep it dry as well as protect it from accidental impacts.

If the doctor didn't do a good job, trim the stitches so they don't catch on anything. If you're in America, take the stitches out yourself after 10-14 days or as soon as you can wiggle them freely. Nail clippers work really well to cut the stitch and pull it out.

If you rip a stitch, you can use a careful dab of super glue to close it. Just make sure it's clean and dry first.

If you cut through the nail, it'll grow back kinda fucked up. My nail healed in an M shape and dirt would get trapped in the middle so I put some Vaseline or something under it to keep it clean.

Last but not least, you have a small window in which fingerprint evidence may be inadmissable in a court of law. Do with this information as you will.

Most visual novels should suffice if you like those. VA-11 Hall-A is great (though best if can hold a drink in the other hand)

Oh, and point-and-click adventure are usually also controllable with just a mouse.

Lots of game recommendations here, but for hardware, look for a cheap MMO mouse. All the buttons you could ask for, on a single hand. Could unlock more games.

Some other options.

If you have a joystick or wheel, flight Sims, space sims, racing games might be possible.

RTS games in single player mode (just play on an easier difficulty). Plenty of decent ones have been released in the last little while. Also, maybe 4x games, total war etc.

Digital Board Games might work too.

Like others said, any turn-based game. Currently suffering enjoying SMT III Nocturne, others I've played are Octopath, Fire Emblem, Pokemon (esp Mystery Dungeon), Atlus in general. Balatro sounds nice. Rhythm heaven is WarioWare + Music, and that's definitely doable one-handed, especially the Wii version. My mom said Fortune Street (Monopoly but Mario + Dragon Quest) lol.

Mobile games can be very doable, a cute one I remember is Candies n' Curses, a game where you swipe to direct the character around a haunted mansion and fight bosses. Easily can be played with one hand. If you can tolerate gachas, Cookie Run Kingdom can be put on auto so you don't have to tap much, I just like the story and characters. I think Geometry dash can be doable on low levels with one hand?

Find your inner weeabo and play some Japanese visual novels. Or if you're a normal person then Ace Attorney would be a fantastic choice, and is a long-ass series. Prepare for courtroom bullshit and jokes.

The Civ games are great one handed as they are turn based. Civ 5 and 6 are what kept me sane when I broke my hand just before COVID lockdown

Return of the Obra Dinn and the golden idol games would probably work. I think you could do everything with mouse clicks or hitting a few keys with your good hand, nothing is time based. Other puzzle based games might work too (lorelai and the laser eye, Blue Prince?)

Mostly 2D factory games, like Factorio could also be doable. Would be a little annoying, but it would work.

Gooning can be done one handed. If you need to use the other hand, stick with an index or middle finger.

Try Neo Scavenger if you like things like Zomboid

if they are still active the mmo's champions online and star trek online are tab targeting and even allow for some scripting. I actually had posted on reddit that I would like for people with disabilities to know about them. the right builds can be done with input every so often that does not need to be split second (some roles do require a bit more timing but if its just one handed its toatlly doable)

I hear pocket pool is a lot of fun.

If you can still use a mouse well, grand strategy games can be played with one hand. Despite all the (deserved) criticism they get, paradox games are a lot of fun. (and their modern ones even feel like a full game without having to buy any dlc) They can be a bit difficult to keep up with without a keyboard though so play on lower speeds.

If you are more concious about who you give your money to, endless legend 2 is a 4x published by hooded horse that is very good (think civ but fantasy) and since it is turn based it is a lot easier to play with just a mouse.

The android port of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 is amazing! Id recommend turning on all the pause options, it effectively turns it into turn based combat. The gui is incredibly intuitive, and you can perform all of your actions either with a stylus or even a single finger. If you like star wars or dnd, its basically guaranteed to be a fun game. Do note though that you will want to install the Restored Content mod, which will require either a rooted android or a computer to allow you to install the mod. It fixes a massive amount of potentially game breaking bugs and restores a bunch of cut content. Not sure what happened with the development of the game, but im guessing the studio forced it to be released before it was complete.

Civilization 7 only requires one hand using a mouse, which includes the Switch 2.

Sins of a Solar Empire. It's a space based strategy game that I've sunk hours into. years ago I used to have really shotty internet so it would go down all the time. I'd play that game for 8 hours a pop easily and the time would just fly by. I'm not even a big strategy gamer but I adored that game.

You can probably play Vampire Survivors. All you really do is move around.

Point and click visual novels. Or JPRGs.

Pokémon Let’s Go [Eevee / Pikachu] can be played with a single joycon vertical in one hand. They designed it to be played with their Pokéball controller, accidentally making it super accessible.

Which thumb? If your left thumb is still functional, when I had a hand injury in middle school, I got to be really good at Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2. If your dominant/mouse hand is still functional, anything mouse-driven ought to do, and that covers a wide range of genres from CRPGs to adventure games to 4X games and more.

Turn-based?

Might not be in your library, but mouse only game I've been enjoying is beat cop.

Any points and click adventure game, there are loads including old classics and modern good games.

Monkey Island remasters are fun and can be played with mouse. Broken Sword games are also good.

Rusty Lake games are great if you prefer more puzzle games than narrative ones. Still has a great somewhat surreal plot just not like a point and click narrative game.

Also If you havent played dwarf fortress now is the time to learn, the siege update came out this week. Mouse or keyboard, or both, but definitely can be done one handed.

Vampire Survivor that others have suggested is a good shout, one hand on the keyboard is enough and its very addictive.

Have you considered pocket ball?

Does this actually get in the way when you're playing with mouse and keyboard? I do use my non-dominant thumb for hitting the space, alt and strg keys, but in many games that's kinda optional, especially when the games aren't super challenging. Turn-based RPGs like Divinity: Original Sin or Baldur's Gate 3 should work great.

Fruit Ninja comes to mind.

Turn based RPGs would be good. You could use the controller one handed. Especially things made for game boy, since there aren’t a lot of buttons.

Have never thought about it so dunno how awkward it'd be, but maybe NES and SNES turn-based RPGs? Quite like Mystic Quest out of them, Final Fantasy on easy mode pretty much but pretty chill and enjoyable imo.

Would recommend also hasicontent, Slipways Classic and Dust Bunny, all for PICO-8 and on Itchio, and those I think that'd be more feasible one-handed. Also Final Fantasy II for the PSP specifically as it's the most feature complete version, and this one iirc is feasible with one hand.

Also more feasible and native to Android if that's your phone system, Chloe Playtime (Google Play), Codemancer (Itchio), Deeper Down Dungeons (Google Play), Quest of Dungeons (Google Play, Humble Bundle, Itchio), REDDEN (dunno if still distributed anywhere) and Tyrant's Blessing (Google Play).

And don't remember any, but if there's any game compatible, maybe also check stuff playable on ScummVM, Joiplay, and other similar projects?

Shapez or shapez 2 are really good factory games that dont really require a lot of thumb movement, else play the west of loathing, this one is fantastic turn styled rpg rame where you go west after the cows came home, also there is a spittoon, you can reach into it, and have the narrator describe the horrors you feel whilst poking around in there to fish out a assortment of spit infused garbage to wear on your person

Recommend games that can be played with a single cylinder that must be protected, if you know what I'm saying
