Zero tolerance rules they usually have means you can go all the way and still get punished just as bad as a light punch, so no reasen to hold back anything.
the aggressor seems to know what is gonna happen and doesn't run or panic which makes me proud of him, fuck the kid filming and trying to get a reaction
My hips don't lie: I don't have the physique I once used to. It's up to Gen Z to keep doing what this kid did, even if he didn't know how to properly throw a punch. Chads do what is necessary to the best of their ability.
Schools in the US often have a police officer on campus known as an SRO — a School Resource Officer. They're about as useful as you'd expect from American police.
Schools in the US have officers specifically assigned to the school. Like the officer’s full time job is to patrol the halls. They’re called School Resource Officers, and they are a large part of the school-to-prison pipeline, as their entire job is focused on getting kids out of regular school and into the prison system. Kids get arrested for things that could be (and previously were) handled by school discipline instead. But since school admins don’t want to deal with it, (because it would require actually making decisions on a case-by-case basis), it’s easier for them to just default to having a kid carted off to juvie by the SRO. And SROs come with all of the same problems and trappings as regular officers; massive racial disparities, being trained for violent escalation as the default, etc…
The stats for SROs are actually pretty staggering. The idea started in the 1950’s, but didn’t really become widespread until the late 90’s when the government started funding specific SRO grants and initiatives, to make them more easily accessible to schools. Columbine (and the subsequent rise in school shootings throughout the 2000’s) poured more fuel on the fire. By 2010, around 45% of middle and high schools in America had SROs. By 2020, that number was nearly 70%.
Schools that invest heavily into SRO programs see a marked increase in arrests (and subsequent drop-outs as kids inevitably end up in the prison system) before graduation. But because no public figure wants to look like they’re soft on crime, politicians keep pushing SRO programs onto school admins. Because more arrests makes it look like they’re cracking down on crime. When in reality, the SRO’s primary role is turning minor problems and disagreements into life-ruining ones.
They were originally hired to stop school shootings. Hard to count the ones that didn't happened because a kid decided not to do it cause them. But they're have never stopped one that is happening.
Ok now we need a benevolent mma or boxer with a media presence to reach out and offer to teach this kid proper technique explicitly for his future Nazi punching activities
The saddest thing about it? The kids that so eagerly embrace fascism don't realize that the fascists and tech-oligarchs they will help to put in charge don't give a fuck about them. Those kids are working hard to create a system that will oppress them. Just like MAGA farmers they will realize they're fucked once it's too late.
The punch was sufficient to pass a message without causing serious body harm that may get the kid into very real trouble.
Ofc nothing prevents the nazi scum from getting someone else to punch him really hard so he can claim damages, but he seems too much of a pussy for that.
Kid in high school already wants in on the right wing grift. annnnnnnd he's done it. the other Nazi's will hold him in high regard like that fat dough pissy boy rottonhouse. He'll be getting calls from Erika asking him what he thinks of her new leather pants cause we know she likes em young.
You're not leaving much room add onto the insult later; you're just 100% into the idea that refusing to use pronouns is the same thing as causing a Holocaust.
The current administration is rounding people up and putting them in concentration camps. If you can’t see the literal fascism, you’re a fucking imbecile. At this point idgaf about whether or not they use the right pronouns, that’s an issue we can fix later, right now, I want them to stop murdering the people protesting their authoritarianism.
Not surprising there's kids like that in lake Zurich. Tons of privilege there. This kid has a good head on his shoulders. Don't let the cake eaters get to ya bud! I went to school in the Chicago suburbs and felt like the poor city kid in a sea of wealth and fame. And I wasn't poor by any means, but let's say a lot of our money went to education.
I had the same experience. One of the poor families in a rich suburb. Now I look back and realize I lived in an admitadely run down castle and am like. Man I wish I was as poor as my dad.
heck Im doing massively higher level work theoretically. he was a janitor (who never went to high school) and my mom did not work. I have stem bs with a dual major and a masters and have done lab work and IT. All the same I have no chance of affording a house like he payed off. Heck we will see if I lose my little two bedroom condo.
Anyway, you guys, I was friends with a chunky guy like that. If you're the chunky guy protecting the other kids, thank you! You got a bright future, don't you worry. I don't encourage violence but what I'm saying is that you guys are usually the big guys all girls wanna be with. The reason why your buddy is not skinny like the other kids is that its getting ready for a growth spurt. So jump in the gym and let that puppy grow. You got the potential for a Viking's body!
Kid 1 has a pro ICE sign and a second kid warns him he is going to punch him if he doesnt stop showing it off. Shitty ICE kid gets punched by kid 2 for being a Nazi.
Yes the kid who shared it was the shitty kid. OF COURSE he would make himself a victim but I am anti-fascist, a social worker and DSA member. You need to touch grass and calm down.
Jesus christ. Go read the comment above. You came in hot for no reason. I was standing with the kid who punched the Nazi. I specified because I didnt realize my wording may be confusing until someone ASKED ME politely to clarify.
Non-violent protests work because it really highlights the brutality of the oppressor in contrast to the moral righteousness of the protestor. It's a public opinion tool.
However, the moment you move into the arena of violence, all of this is null and void. The only question is: who has the bigger guns? That person will win.
In this case, whatever you think of the moral standpoint of the two students, the ICE-banner student has the optics in their favour. They can claim (and have in the video) that they're peacefully protesting and exposing the violence of their oppressor, opressor that resorts to violence at the slightest disagreement. Truth doesn't matter anymore, everything is about optics (look at the DOJ FFS).
Good on the kid I guess, but this same admin called in the National Guard because Big Balls got jumped. Ggwp
This is historically inaccurate. Historically successful revolutions usually take a multilateral approach using multiple groups and approaches including taking up arms and meeting violence with violence. A good example of this would be South African liberation from apartheid
That's so historically inaccurate I'm amazed it's got so many upvotes. Let's go through the SA case:
the ANC's armed wing insignificant and largely ineffective throughout the struggle (Mandela himself acknowledged this, and that the MK was largely symbolic).
MK sabotage campaigns never posed a genuine military threat to the apartheid state
By the 1980s, most MK leadership was in exile, imprisoned, or neutralized
Apartheid was successfully brought down in SA mostly because of huge international economic sanctions and divestment, mass civil disobedience and labour strikes (read about the United Democratic Front's campaigns), and the moral delegitimisafiom of apartheid through Non-violent resistance.
Same with the US: people love to point at the Black Panthers, but they were systematically destroyed or marginalized (so ineffective besides vibes). The Civil Rights Movement succeeded precisely because it maintained non-violence even when met with brutal repression.
I maintain that anyone that encourages violence, especially online these days must be a glowie. Want to be radical and revolutionary? Stop paying your taxes lmao.
Unfortunately the kid who did the punching fell for the trolling of the asshat doing the recording. The aggressor (the asshat) was intentionally trying to provoke someone into a confrontation, and succeeded. And the puncher is now guilty of assault and battery (and there is video proof!) and will be punished, while the asshat will walk away even more smug and empowered to do it again to someone else.
The point I am trying to make is to not feed the trolls. It doesn’t matter what bullshit they spout, or how angry it makes you: do not engage them unless they are literally (and I mean literally) endangering you or someone else. Ignoring them is the best way to shut them down.
Edit:
I interrupt this regularly scheduled downvote-fest to bring you an important update. I feel like this needs to be said because it appears people aren’t using their heads and simply reacting on pure emotion.
If you are standing by yourself (even in a crowd of people), and someone comes along and does something worthy of being punched or otherwise assaulted, don’t. You are by yourself, and you will either bore the sole responsibility of any trouble, or if the other person is not alone, you will get your ass kicked. And for what? Principle?
Principles sound great, on paper. But when you’re alone in the back of a cop car/principal’s office, or bleeding out in an ER, they don’t do shit for you. Nor do they do shit when you’re in court being arraigned for breaking the law (regardless of how morally right you are).
It’s simply not smart.
Now, if you really want to make a difference, you need to bring yourself up (and above) their level. Believe it or not, they are on a level higher than petty assault and battery. They are organized, unified, and they are working the system to their advantage. They have power in numbers.
So do the same. Organize your people. Do not stand alone. Gather evidence. Turn their system against them. Just like in Minneapolis, France, and Hong Kong.
Use your brains people, otherwise you’re really no better than they are (different side of the same coin).
Now you may continue downvoting me because “punching nazis”.
I used to feel this too but honestly it's been Nazi punching time for a while now. They're not just trolling anymore they're actively pushing the envelope for what we're willing to normalize. I hope they get their jaw broken next time
🤷♂️ It is serious. It may not directly affect me, but it is a growing mentality in society as a whole that I do worry will undermine any valid attempt at “fixing” our situation (whatever that may look like).
But at the end of the day, I will move on. Hopefully the glasses kid in the video will be able to also.
Silence only helps the oppressor, never the oppressed. Your silence is what empowers them to continue spouting their bullshit, not people standing up to them regardless of what the law says.
We do not tolerate intolerance. If they want a fight, then give it to them.
The only takeaway is to recognize that the law is not your friend, it is actively what empowers them to have a voice and acts as a shield for them to hide behind.
No, you teach them to be smart and not act on just emotions. You don’t teach them to go and get arrested because somebody said something they disagree with.
Maybe teach them to organize against people like the aggressor, and rally them out of the school. Or teach them to worm the system so that admins will be compelled to get that asshole out of there.
Simply “punching nazis” because you had an emotional reaction only reenforces the asshole’s behavior, and causes unnecessary grief on you.
But yeah, “punch nazis” because “mah emotions”. Real smart. That’ll teach ‘em!
The lesson isn't "punch Nazis because mah emotions", and the fact that that's what you take away from it says more about your outlook than any of theirs.
The lesson is that direct action against racism and fascism is immediately necessary every time, lest we end up in the flaming dumpster fire that we're currently in, and if that direct action involves negative reinforcement for a racist piece of shit, then it's a lesson sorely needed that their parents should have taught them long before situation like this.
You'd better believe every child in my extended family is being educated on the paradox of tolerance as soon as they're able to grasp it.
'ignoring them is the best way to shut them down' haha lol, lmao even. I wish I could still believe this. As the other person said, silence only helps the oppressor.
"Children" aren't some foreign species that lives in a vacuum, who only pupate into actual human beings the moment they hit 18. This line of thinking absolves them off all responsibility and parenting, often used by horrible parents to excuse their behavior because "they're just kids" (aka I completely failed to raise my kid and don't know what to do about it). And it's high school, not kindergarten. You're the weirdo for infantilising them.
Never suggested kids shouldn't face consequences for their actions. I just think it's weird that adults are sharing video of them in school and making commentary on it.
This shit should be nothing but the business of the kids, their parents, and the school.
Oh nooo, did your poor fascist feelings get hurt? 😢. Stfu bitch, look around you, look at the pain and suffering that people like you are causing the world. You are the parasite draining our world of its resources and its people. Fuck. You.
If they agree but not enthusiastically enough → secret Nazi.
If they agree too enthusiastically → definitely a Nazi trying to blend in.
Conclusion: Everyone’s a Nazi except me, the last sane person on earth.

Your comment suggests you’ve taken lessons from Joseph Goebbelz...not because you oppose fascism, but because you’re using the same tactic he perfected: weaponizing emotionally loaded labels to inflame outrage and mobilize people to violence.
Nazi concentration camps run by the Nazi Party during World War II were instruments of genocide, culminating in industrialized murder at places like Auschwitz.
ICE detention facilities, whatever criticisms one may have, are civil immigration detention centers...not,z extermination camps. Equating the two erases intent and trivializes the Holocaust.
As Goebbels himself famously argued, if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it...and that is exactly the propaganda playbook you’re running
Your comment suggests you’ve taken lessons from Joseph Goebbelz...not because you oppose fascism, but because you’re using the same tactic he perfected: weaponizing emotionally loaded labels to inflame outrage and mobilize people to violence.
Nope. Using the same tactic as someone doesn't mean you have the same values as them, or even learned the tactic from them.

Nope. Nazi concentration camps were not extermination camps from the get go. Read a book.
As Goebbels himself famously argued, if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it...and that is exactly the propaganda playbook you’re running
Nope. This is way wide of the mark. You seem to think you've proved something but you really haven't.
What you have done, though, is defended ICE. Why would you do that? Here's a question for you: what would it take, at a minimum, for you to accept that ICE are a fascist organisation? I think before you answer you might do well to review the definitions of fascism.
I disagree with you, and I'll feed the troll one good time. I've always liked tossing treats to the animals, ya just can't feed them too much; or they can get comfortable and become a menace
If you are only trolling, you're not just getting a reaction, you're actively being malicious
If you can't figure out why what you said is malicious — well than yeah, you sound like a nazi and/or sympathizer
I don't really care which, be better. Or don't, and live as small as you feel. I disagree because you're wording sounds insincere. You disagree because you are sincere, or dangerously ugly... maybe both
Maybe you truly don't understand, but ya don't sound like you care to understand and I ain't your momma to tell you how to politely disagree with opinions. Be better or sit down, cause the adults are speaking
Are you seriously comparing school shootings to someone being punched in the face after holding up a sign that they likely knew was going to be inflammatory?
Edit: I recognize that it doesn't matter what the sign says, he doesn't deserve to be punched. It is the kind of statement that reeks of teenage edgelord humor, that I hope the young man grows out of. I think the comparison is in bad faith though.

despite_velasquez@lemmy.world · -9 pts · 184d
Ggwp
Formfiller@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 184d
This is historically inaccurate. Historically successful revolutions usually take a multilateral approach using multiple groups and approaches including taking up arms and meeting violence with violence. A good example of this would be South African liberation from apartheid
despite_velasquez@lemmy.world · -4 pts · 184d
That's so historically inaccurate I'm amazed it's got so many upvotes. Let's go through the SA case:

All the more reason to teach them fully the first time that fascism is not okay.
Negative reinforcement works great for that, especially for brains that are still developing.
You know what doesn't help with problem behaviors in children?
Ignoring them and hoping they'll go away.
dohpaz42@lemmy.world · -8 pts · 184d
No, you teach them to be smart and not act on just emotions. You don’t teach them to go and get arrested because somebody said something they disagree with.
Maybe teach them to organize against people like the aggressor, and rally them out of the school. Or teach them to worm the system so that admins will be compelled to get that asshole out of there.
Simply “punching nazis” because you had an emotional reaction only reenforces the asshole’s behavior, and causes unnecessary grief on you.
But yeah, “punch nazis” because “mah emotions”. Real smart. That’ll teach ‘em!
AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 184d
The lesson isn't "punch Nazis because mah emotions", and the fact that that's what you take away from it says more about your outlook than any of theirs.
The lesson is that direct action against racism and fascism is immediately necessary every time, lest we end up in the flaming dumpster fire that we're currently in, and if that direct action involves negative reinforcement for a racist piece of shit, then it's a lesson sorely needed that their parents should have taught them long before situation like this.
You'd better believe every child in my extended family is being educated on the paradox of tolerance as soon as they're able to grasp it.

Tldr you a nazi.
As Goebbels himself famously argued, if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it...and that is exactly the propaganda playbook you’re running
crapwittyname@feddit.uk · 9 pts · 184d
Nope. Using the same tactic as someone doesn't mean you have the same values as them, or even learned the tactic from them.
Nope. Nazi concentration camps were not extermination camps from the get go. Read a book.
