MAGA has been swooning over an Army soldier and her pro-Trump message. She is AI

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/maga-ai-us-soldier-instagram-account-trump-b2942600.html

The account is an example of how artificial intelligence is being used to push political agendas in wartime

MAGA has been swooning over photos of a blonde U.S. Army soldier, walking defiantly alongside President Donald Trump to carry out the America First agenda. But there’s just one problem — she’s AI.

Images most likely generated by artificial intelligence depicted Jessica Foster wearing heels on a U.S. warship in the Strait of Hormuz, posing for selfies with Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and giving a speech at the president’s “Board of Peace” event earlier this year.

The account, which has since been taken down, gained more than one million followers since its mysterious creator started posting on it four months ago, The Washington Post reports.

astronaut_sloth@mander.xyz · 113 pts · 174d (16 replies)

Any MAGA who fell for this is beyond stupid (plus utterly unfamiliar with the military). Her uniform is wrong (skirt WAYYY too high). No one wears dress uniforms underway at sea in general, ESPECIALLY an enlisted soldier (who would likely be nowhere near a ship, even more especially in dress uniform). The ribbons on her dress uniform not only change from picture to picture, but are also the wrong size (sometimes) and not even actual US ribbons. I've never seen a regulation name tag say "US ARMY" and not a name. The undershirt in her camis isn't regulation. And this was just a quick look at the photos and only tangentially around the Army at work.

Oh and that's before the visible glitches because it's AI. This is laughably low effort.

EDIT: Damn, they didn't even use a real ship as the background. It's supposed to be a destroyer, and there are no US destroyers with an aft-facing bridge or part of the superstructure forward of the bridge windows. Just truly WTF

EDIT 2.0: I just saw a couple other photos because I got curious. One has her as a one-star general 😂, and a couple others have her wearing a (shitty looking) Combat Infantry Badge, which is only awarded for being in combat. So, I guess women CAN hack it in combat! Hegseth must be in shambles.

fizzle@quokk.au · 11 pts · 174d

Even without the technical knowledge of military uniforms, one look at any of these and my mind is just screaming "probably fake".

IDK why exactly.

I think it's mostly that she's so young and beautiful and doesn't have that vapid dead-behind-the-eyes look that most MAGA women do. She looks like a happy vivacious young woman, not like a highly decorated military officer.

IDK how to say this but if women like her actually existed we would already be overrun with real photos of them in the oval office.

The other red flags that don't require technical knowledge that trip the "probably fake" alert buzzer:

Who takes a selfie with POTUS in the oval office?

Why is she wearing a crop top that looks like it's from cost-co?

Why is she standing around on a ship in high heels looking serious?

Why is she walking around on a military base with Trump without the usual entourage?

The literal first photo in the article has the American flag patch on her arm backwards. Not flipped like a mirrored image, like the “physical object” is constructed backwards….

astronaut_sloth@mander.xyz · 2 pts · 173d (1 reply)

Of all the things in the photos that actually made sense. It's weird, though, and threw me for a loop when I first saw uniforms and such and had to ask back then.

On uniforms, vehicles, etc. the flag is sometimes "backwards" so that the union (the blue and stars) are "forward facing." The idea is that the flag is flown from the left side in normal orientation, so the union is closest to the pole. If the person or vehicle were carrying a real flag, based on what side a person is observing, the flag may be "mirrored." In other words, the flag is moving with the person or vehicle and not the opposite way. You'll see that orientation a lot on American military and para-military uniforms.

I never understood why we don't just put a normal oriented flag on the opposite shoulder for the same effect, but hey...America is weird.

lemjukes@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 173d

I admit my ignorance and appreciate the correction. But now I’m just also annoyed at how stupid that sounds.

IratePirate@feddit.org · 37 pts · 173d (5 replies)

Does it really matter? These people were detached from reality long before AI was a thing. These are the people who swallowed horse dewormer to fight off a virus, stormed the capitol to hang their own party's VP over election fraud that never happened (but that they are now actively preparing themselves), and attacked a pizzeria to save children from the clutches of pedophiles (all the while ignoring their idol's ties to, and probably involvement with the crimes of, pedophile child trafficker Epstein).

We must come to grips with the fact that a significant part of the U.S. population is living in an alternative, media-generated universe. Baudrillard would be laughing his arse off if he could see it. The question is: how to deal with that.

FlyingCircus@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 173d

Machinist@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 173d (3 replies)

It seems you've thought deeply about this. I've done so as well.

It really fucking freaks me out that such a large chunk of our society is detached from objective, verifiable realty. A fair amount of what they believe is pants-on-head crazy vengeance fantasy. Another big chunk has spooky parallels to literal Nazi propaganda such as the Protocol of the Elders of Zion, it's so similar that it's obviously just borrowed. It's shocking that more people don't see it for what it transparently is.

I have no clue what can be done about it. I don't know how society heals this or reinforces the value of facts, sanity, and critical thinking.

You got anything? Any thoughts about where we go from here? How to unfuck their heads? Where does this end if they aren't deprogrammed? How long will we be trapped in this?

Genuine questions because I ain't got a fucking clue at this point.
