It's not even the first blasphemy... There's been so much talk and memes from evangelicals basically making him out to be a messiah and he's totally embraced it over and over again.
Calling someone messiah is not a blasphemy tho. However, equaling yourself to God or his Son is a blasphemy. But now that you pointed it out, he was destined to fall for it at some point with his overinflated ego xD
Those are things he hasn't tweeted or said or done on video, they are things the people who are dumb enough (all republicans) to have ever been on his side can deny or think isn't as bad etc.
This is a specific thing done by him, it's something many of them can't do the mental gymnastics to try to disprove, explain away or angle into something else.
Frankly, this is making me furious. Even a friend of mine who has hated Trump all along is telling me that this "crosses a new line" for him. I'm having a hard time not snapping at him about this. I will bury the reaction and continue smiling for now because opposing Trump is more important for now.
Well, something about them does make sense. They are all a bunch of scared babies who want a mean daddy to fix all their problems (which are apparently 100% just brown people).
The saddest part to me is that they have been conditioned and misled to this position carefully, methodically, and maliciously over a few decades. If you aren't the type to push back and question what those around you do and say then it becomes your warped reality. It's the same misleading ensnarement used by cult leaders.
This isn't the first one made of him. So it took a few to push people over.
A reminder that it isn't Trump, but the ones who support him that are the problem, and there are so many of them. And even they are also just a symptom of a deeper illness. A self-perpetuating one.
There are lots of problems, but some are more dependent on the others, so pick your battles. There are also predicaments. Whether or not the biggest problems are really that is debatable. But have to start somewhere.
They want something to be nominally angry about because we all made fun of them for only caring about gas prices. This is cover. I won't assume intentionality where irrationality has always reigned, but the holier-than-thou crowd prefers a spiritual boogeyman to admitting they are just selfish little children.
I think that they were willing to go along with just about anything, so long as it seemed like he was a path to power. But, from their perspective, he’s committed the ultimate faux pa, he made gas prices go up. So his political agenda is dead in the water with no chance of recovery. This stuff is just the excuse to back away without loosing face.
That's what propaganda is all about. MAGA has the Conservative Propaganda Machine, and it is mature and effective, and the Dems have nothing to counter it. Doing stuff like this is about all we have at the moment.
THIS time Trump posting Himself as Jesus is TOO FAR! He BETTER go Back to his NORMAL posting of Himself as Jesus otherwise I'll HOLD MY NOSE when I vote for him AGAIN!
Do we know if the anti-Christ is aware they are the anti-Christ? Because it seems like trump just accidentally stumbled into embodying that concept so perfectly just by being his normal piece of shit self.
No, the idea of the antichrist knowing is a supposition of them being a servant of the beast. A cultural assumption of Satan's "human servants" having first hand communication like one does with a human boss.
Inasmuch as I could play with the idea of believing in revelations, I would believe that it's less about a "chosen one" antichrist, and moreso an "antichrist candidate" that when someone can fulfill the roll and obtain power; then it's a sign of times incoming. Also, (lego) Brick Bible Revelations is a fascinating interpretation.
I'm glad you posted that link, or I would have. That's the best summation of the Anti-Christ I've seen, and I've posted it many times over the past few years.
I don't believe in any of that bullshit, but if I did, this post would make an enormous impact on me. More Christians need to see it.
What, like several decades of evidence of him being a shit show? Pfft who'd have that? The Internet, major TV networks, and most new York News publications?
I'll put it out there right now: "God? If you're listening, if you send Trump to Hell in the next 24 hours, I promise I will go to church every Sunday for the rest of my life."
And I mean it. I don't believe in any of that nonsense at all, but if that prayer is answered, I'm back on board.
Even if you believe that the only way that Trump could possibly die within the next 24 hours is the act of a god, which god was it? Maybe you're supposed to go to a Hindu temple, maybe it's a Jewish one, maybe it's Ra or Thor.
What a bunch of pathetic rubes. These people view politics as a team sport, and have collectively sensed that the tide is turning on the Trump regime (in no small part due to the same realization made by those like Tucker Carlson and Theo Vaughn, others within their purview). This is just an excuse for them to act out that realization. There is no moral conviction in these people whatsoever.
We need to convince them that winning looks like the green new deal and mass unionization across all labor sectors.

Really, he rode the coattails of the black President's economy and then completely bobbled things during Covid. If they think that's doing great on the economy, I just don't know what to say because he completely screwed the pooch on doing the very basics of handling a pandemic.

I like to remember that America recovered from the robber barons and monopolists of the Guilded Age. It's unfortunate that the thought rides tandem with the fact that it took a major world conflict and America seizing control of the world economy, and the America that emerged was really only great for white people. But maybe modern progressivism is less racist than it was and the next social revolution will be class based instead of race based. A guy can try to hope, a little bit as a treat.
You don't realize tech has changed things. They have total informational awareness, to the point they can turn a mother again their own kids. There is no bottom to this, unless we stop it, which we aren't.
While I agree there is no bottom and never was change will always happen....unless all of humanity die.
Especially when you take everything away from someone and they have nothing left to lose. As seen with recent plumber brothers.
Problem is nice Chunk of people see this as winning. I always wondered how in 1984 ppl saw their lives. Its soo disappointing and disgusting to see them enjoy themselves in filth like pigs.
And the self serving cunt will skate away yet again because so many people are scared, of changes, of people who don't look like them, of being told that they had it wrong, that they'll lose their little piece of the whatever they have...
Oh they're mad. They'll tune into Faux News to find out what they should do next and receive their OTA update and be back to normal boot-lickery tomorrow.
I am aware of at least one real instance of this happening. Not the hat burning, but my wife is Facebook friends with an old coworker of hers who is self-identified MAGA. This is his latest post, under the Trump/Jesus picture:
Always been a fan of the guy, but the last 3-4 months I've lost all respect for him. Has turned into Israel's puppet with this war, turned the entire world against us by joining a side that is quite literally murdering thousands of innocents left and right in Gaza and Lebanon, and now posting this blasphemous shit, on the day of Orthodox Easter, no less. Fuck him.
I don't know if this is happening in numbers significant enough for it to matter, but it's one real case.
I live in a purple area. I've seen some homes take down their maga flags. While it doesn't necessarily mean they turned on him, they're at least less enthusiastic. On the other hand, I've also seen homes double down and add more maga flags or the tpusa flag.
I don't really care about this whole "they're turning against him" thing. These are stupid, stupid human beings. They'll vote for the next child rapist felon the GOP props up. Because stupid humans make stupid decisions.
That’s what I’m thinking. I think there will be a higher proportion of Maga Catholics who essentially turn at least somewhat away from their faith due to Trump’s actions compared to Maga Catholics who turn away from Trump for those actions.
Less and less. As a thrift shop junkie it’s always interesting to watch how long it takes consumer trends to fizzle and the shelves fill with the must-haves of yesterday year. Currently it’s Baby Yoda, Squishmallows, and MAGA/Trump gear.
Image 2, at the top. It's f*cking Baphomet lol. The AI stuck a demon into his picture and one of Trump's minions had to go back and replace it in his follow-up picture. (some folks are saying it's Abbadon but try an image search for Baphomet).
The modern The Satanic Temple (TST) uses Baphomet as a symbol of critical thinking and pursuit of scientific knowledge.
If you don't know, the TST is an atheist/agnostic religious order that is , in some ways like the church of the flying spaghetti monster in that it's existence is, in part, to point out problems with religion. And specifically challenge religious laws.
The tst often uses its own doctrine to fight against laws with religious exemptions. Such as abortion bans. As they say it's in their religion to allow women autonomy over such things.
In cities where the 10 commandments have been placed in state buildings and schools (after laws passed to allow religious things to be placed there) then they sue to make sure their religious icons are also placed there or to force the government to ban all religion stuff.
That's a really weird metaphor. It doesn't really make any sense.
There's a well known metaphor about burning your own boats so that you're unable to retreat. But, those aren't lifeboats.
If you're talking about not letting people get rescued, why not "sink the lifeboats"? Setting them on fire would be annoying, but a fire would be easy to put out if the boats are out at sea. There's water all around. The article seems to be more about not allowing people who have abandoned the sinking ship to come on board. So, why not just "ignore the lifeboats". You don't have to approach them and set them on fire. You can just refuse to rescue the people in those lifeboats and leave them floating out at sea.
I know driftglass has made his enemies, especially among never-trumpers and the MSM, but I doubt it's extended to Lemmy, LOL. Maybe it's a blogspot thing?
Yeah, the domain is blogspot with a dot com. If you search driftglass blogspot and burn the lifeboats, he's written about it (and probably so has his wife, bluegal) and talked about it on their podcast several times over the years in regards to the teabagger movement and the offramps given to Republicans so they can temporarily claim to be "independents", and then go right back to voting Republican.
Corporate consolidation of media, systematic dismantling of the education system, decades of red-scare rhetoric and crackdowns on left-populism, corporate capture of both parties and the state-funded spread of radical Evangelical churches.
This has been the general plan for decades, ever since the New Deal and Civil Rights movement, to unwind every inch of progress ever made since the abolition of slavery. The Epstein Class will take us all kicking and screaming back into the darkness of unenlightenment, a new dark age of unspeakable horrors.

Rounding up random brown people, including American citizens and sending them overseas to prison camps?

Raping children for decades?

You don't realize tech has changed things. They have total informational awareness, to the point they can turn a mother again their own kids. There is no bottom to this, unless we stop it, which we aren't.
Spacehooks@reddthat.com · 2 pts · 158d
While I agree there is no bottom and never was change will always happen....unless all of humanity die. Especially when you take everything away from someone and they have nothing left to lose. As seen with recent plumber brothers. Problem is nice Chunk of people see this as winning. I always wondered how in 1984 ppl saw their lives. Its soo disappointing and disgusting to see them enjoy themselves in filth like pigs.

I am aware of at least one real instance of this happening. Not the hat burning, but my wife is Facebook friends with an old coworker of hers who is self-identified MAGA. This is his latest post, under the Trump/Jesus picture:

Image 2, at the top. It's f*cking Baphomet lol. The AI stuck a demon into his picture and one of Trump's minions had to go back and replace it in his follow-up picture. (some folks are saying it's Abbadon but try an image search for Baphomet).
daannii@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 158d
Which image? Also Baphomet isn't a demon.
Baphomet symbolizes balance and knowledge.
They have a whole network of lawyers. https://thesatanictemple.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoquML54swNBR5BvIh_Hy0fMyBzPagoa2uED70JdVuH78-vXR5Eh
They do good work.

Meanwhile, the rest of us need to Burn The Lifeboats
https://driftglass.blogspot.com/2019/06/burn-lifeboats.html
merc@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 158d

This blog was from 2019.
