Dr. Greene?! Paging Dr. Marjorie Taylor Greene?!

timewarp@lemmy.world · -56 pts · 1d (17 replies)

She has some terrible ideas, but the way they smeared her over this reminds me how they attacked Mamdani calling him an antisemitic Jihadist. Sad so many people on the left merely parroted their pro-genocide AIPAC politicians at the time.

TheTechnician27@lemmy.world · 75 pts · 1d (14 replies)

Dude, fuck off. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a white supremacist. She was talking about nonsensical antisemitic conspiracy theories she got off of social media (she was blaming US wildfires on "Jewish space lasers"). Do not try to "well, ackshually" her with this revisionist garbage. She never had a point, and anything resembling one was accidental.

Edit: Oh, you're one of those Jill Stein assholes. That actually checks out.

dickalan@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 1d (11 replies)

ewwwww jill stein can eat rocks

LeFrog@discuss.tchncs.de · 6 pts · 1d (9 replies)

Non-US guy here, what's going on with Jill Stein?

VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 1d (5 replies)

Our electoral laws naturally result in a two-party system with (for the last century) the Democrats as the relative left and Republicans as the relative right. There are only two other parties that have any significance at all - the Green Party, which is ecologically focused party that backs renewable energy as their main feature, but is also very socially liberal; and the Libertarian Party, which is like the Republicans except they're in favor of legalizing recreational drugs and abolishing even more regulations than the Republicans.

Jill Stein has been the head of the Greens since 2012 or so. Under Stein's leadership, the Greens don't really run for any offices other than President. Despite their platform being very popular in Democrat dominated areas, sometimes more popular than the actual Democrat platform, they almost never make a real attempt to run for city or state positions. Instead, the Green Party almost exclusively runs in the presidential election, and exclusively fields Jill Stein as their candidate. Due to our archaic first-past-the-post system, having two candidates on the relative left makes it easier for a candidate on the relative right to win, even if a majority of voters would prefer a relative left candidate, due to the votes getting split. The Greens also make bigger pushes in what are expected to be closer elections, spending more money and maintaining a larger media presence, siphoning votes from the Democratic candidate despite never having done better in a presidential election than 2.7% of all votes. However, in areas that flip parties frequently, that percentage is higher and they often function as a spoiler candidate, handing what should be a close win for a Democrat to an easy win for a Republican.

Stein herself has also been seen at events with Putin, has repeated Russian propaganda about Ukraine and NATO, and has been investigated by the FBI for possible collusion with the Russian government to interfere in US elections.

from the article:

"And my own connection to RT, you know ironically, it takes a Russian television station to actually be open to independent candidates in this country and that is a shame. A shameful commentary on our own media," she told NBC's Alex Seitz-Wald

there is nothing suspicious about her presence at the event

tar@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 1d (2 replies)

she condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. hilary Clinton has been seen at events with Putin. the investigation found nothing untoward on her behalf.

this insinuation is insidious.

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

For everything she can say, what she did was help split the vote and get us to here we are. Also, fuck her opposition to nuclear energy.

Wataba@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Shes a Putin patsy that manipulates 3rd party voters into throwing away everything to further enable Trump's shit.

Theres a photo of her sitting at Putin's table.

timewarp@lemmy.world · -14 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Way to repeat the smears that were investigated and proven by the Senate Intelligence Committee to have no merit. The only people that enabled Trump was Genocide Joe, Kamala Cheney, and all her joyful pro-genocide supporters.

That's a pretty neat party trick. I can fit seven up my nose before it starts to tickle my brain.

timewarp@lemmy.world · -17 pts · 1d (1 reply)

She never said "Jewish space lasers." You're doing exactly what I said.

TheTechnician27@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1d

I'm aware she never literally said the words "Jewish space lasers". What she did is blame the Rothschilds (by name) for funding "what looked like lasers or blue beams of light causing the fires".

There's absolutely zero reason for her to be bringing the Rothschilds into this except as antisemitic dogwhistling. She has a history of antisemitism outside of this too, of course:

In December 2018, she shared a video on her Facebook page, which features a prominent British anti-Semite [note: Holocaust denier] explaining that “Zionist supremacists have schemed to promote immigration and miscegenation.” This is a conspiracy theory that seemingly motivated the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter’s rampage in October 2018, less than two months before Greene’s post. Despite concrete evidence that these ideas were endangering American Jews, Greene chose to spread them anyway.

She's also claimed George Soros "OWNS Antifa" and is an "ex-Nazi billionaire" (notably, Soros survived Nazi-occupied Hungary as a Jewish child).

She knew exactly what she was saying; her post boils down to "Jewish space lasers", which is why anyone with any sense called it for what it is. Do not try to play pedant to pussyfoot around MTG's white supremacist antisemitism, you little weasel.

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io · 10 pts · 1d

I mean, reporting on things she actually said isn't smearing.

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d

MTG was just saying anti semitic shit and this one was simply close to being correct.

infinitevalence@discuss.online · 54 pts · 1d (3 replies)

So....a Jewish space laser controlled by the Rothschild's?

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io · 14 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Unfortunately the Rothschilds have been basically irrelevant since WWII so it'll be controlled by someone else, but yes.

infinitevalence@discuss.online · 11 pts · 1d

It's still sad that the line between satire and reality is so blurred that my post is taken at have value.

darkwing_duck@sh.itjust.works · -2 pts · 22h (2 replies)

When they say they are planning to develop them, what they mean is that they are planning to make their existence public. You should assume Jewish Space Lasers are literally a thing today.

stoy@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 19h (1 reply)

Nope, a space laser is a stupid weapon.

A system of kinetic impactors would be far more practical.

MonkeMischief@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 2h

To be fair the article says "Space Weapons", not necessarily lasers, so something stupid and destructive like dropping some kinda mass payload from low orbit would also count.

ALoafOfBread@lemmy.ml · 35 pts · 1d (3 replies)

They need to be able to orbitally bombard Palestinian schoolchildren - matter of national security

benjirenji@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Hamas made them go to space obviously.

I thought there were agreements regarding the fact that weapons should not be deployed to space.

empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 55 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Israel's track record of abiding by international laws and treaties is.... Well. Less than stellar.

jamesrandi@lemmy.zip · 13 pts · 1d

Baddum - Tsss...

kreskin@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1d

they'll use those weapons too. And they'll feel great about using them.

finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world · 26 pts · 1d

Ha! Israel following agreements regarding weapons. Ahh ... good one!

mobyduck648@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1d

From what I understand it's only WMDs that are internationally banned from space, while obviously a rather distasteful thing to do it's not unlawful to put conventional weapons in space. The Soviets armed some of their space stations with autocannon for example, which isn't even the best example of their space programme making Bond villains everywhere look like complete scrubs.

unknown@piefed.social · 4 pts · 1d

Yeah but as we all know by now, it's considered deeply antisemetic to say no to israel.

bedwyr@piefed.ca · 1 pts · 1d

No one was ever going to respect such an agreement. This stuff has been in the works for a while. Russia looks like it's testing out it's own satelite killing tech as we speak as well.

Technically they were, but they worked for the americans (Operation Paperclip took in nazi rocket scientists and physicists, providing them safe haven in the us in exchange for them working on the gadget)

TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 13 pts · 1d

Ah yes, like the nazis with the V2, the first rocket to reach space! They are so on track with the nazi agenda.

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 1d

Israel will set them up to fire on everyone if they ever fall. It's the same thing with their nuclear arsenal, but even more out of reach. That's what they use when they can't bribe politicians to support them.

This will result in the station getting blown and a lot of space debrees. I don't think it is gonna be a good tool, USA already had Rods from God idea and it wasn't implemented cause the cost/effect is questionable.

I mean, it's clear international law no longer applies but isn't this another example of that?

Ashrakal@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 8h (2 replies)

Space is a neutral zone like the Antarctic. Like they have any right to bring weaponry over there.

Rather than having weaponry to protect Earth against external threats like asteroids, they’d point the weapons inwards to oppress the population of Earth.

This administration should be dismantled as soon as possible. It’s toxic to the world.

A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 7h

Like Israel has ever cared about laws or decency.

SippyCup@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 7h

Rather than having weaponry to protect Earth against external threats like asteroids, they’d point the weapons inwards to oppress the population of Earth.

What, a fine upstanding state like Israel? Never.

I didn't read the article, I would assume no one reading it is dumb enough to think Israel has any intention of using weapons deployed in space for anything other than killing Muslim schoolchildren. And probably eventually Jewish schoolchildren who's parents don't align with Zionism.

adwijoma@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 8h (1 reply)

With the US footing the bill, I'm guessing.

neobunch@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 8h

And you'd be correct. The only reason Israel is a tech powerhouse is them having a captive and defenseless population in which to field-test anything they come up with, AND THEN have everything paid for by the US taxpayer.

Avicenna@programming.dev · 5 pts · 1d

And make US pay for it

You could make one that shoots the moon.

Akasazh@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1d (5 replies)

So... How are they going to launch them?

Reads a bit like the obsession a certain dictator had with wunderwaffe.

finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Elon Musk will probably gift them rockets. Given that his decision to cut USAid has already killed thousands of children, he certainly doesn't seem to mind dead kids.

Akasazh@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

I know they are banking on that, but strategically it's not the soundest investment.

kreskin@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d

America will do it for them. Israel doesnt have much of a space program that can even come remotely close developing any of these goals on its own, they use a deep partnership with NASA ..aka they are gifted data and designs by bribed US politicians.. or they flat out steal it, like they did with all of their nuclear material stolen from the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_affair

they also dont have an economy large enough to fund researching any of this out or doing it. Israels entire GDP (PPP based) is only 600 billion. The tiny state of Massachusetts alone has a GDP of 780 billion.. about 25% larger than Israels.. just Massaschusetts. And the whole US gdp is ~50 times what Israels is.

Israel is reading out a list of what they will order Americans to provide for them for free so they can pretend they developed it themselves. Same as with the Israeli F-35 program and their naval tech. See how they pretend they have extended the F-35 with native tech to make it vastly superior to the US f-35: https://defense.info/air-power-dynamics/2025/06/israels-f-35i-adir-a-strategic-game-changer-in-middle-east-air-power/

They are bullshitters, pedophiles, criminals, and welfare queens.

bonesawmcl@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Israel has some launch capability, though they have to launch retrograde and don't have that much payload capacity to LEO because of it.

You know they’ll find a way to make the USA taxpayer pay for it. Like everything else they do.

Garbagio@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 1d

We'll see. Everything the Zionist oligarchs are doing is hurtling us off a cliff; it'll be interesting to see if Israel can pull this off before we collapse the entire global capitalist system. My bet is that this is just like everything else these fucks are doing: Not meant to succeed, but meant to rape the last bit of money Americans can provide before it all goes to shit.

Deme@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 1d

Space lasers yes, but I imagine that after the higher ups finally get the memo on that, most of the funding will go into optical imaging and SAR satellites for surveillance.
