Since you're mentioning Bezos: why not leverage the fact that he and Musk are building rockets? Let them realise their aspirations of colonising the Moon or Mars. But let them do it themselves.

Even if it's a target that's not widely popular, it will be used to push policies that hurt the people of the US more.

That's how we got the patriot act.

Don't care. As long as that shit-stain is in power, damage mitigation just plays into his hands.

The US is plagued by a cancer, and there's no way to excise it without further casualties. The only hope we have is chemotherapy and the hope that when the smoke clears it's the patient that survives.

Apathetic, moronic accelerationists set us on that path. The consolation is that a bunch of THEM will assuredly suffer too.

unrealistic risk of danger to the U.S.

Bro...

Have you seen the people in charge of anti-terrorism?!

It's a bigger miracle we haven't had a serious attack in the last year than it was that not a single hurricane made landfall last year.

We can't handle any type of disaster, and even routine shit are realistic risks of danger.

Risk of terrorist attack is sky high and it would likely be something huge that gets thru.

But...

trump isn't doing anything, he's not driving the bus and hasn't been for a while. The people who tell him what to do/say are trying to normalize American deaths to him.

And because he's trump and he just repeats what people told him a second ago, that's what he did when he went on camera.

He's never concerned about something or trying to reassure anyone. Whatever he blabbers about is what people were saying to him moments ago.

ohulancutash@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 163d

Terrorists aren’t exactly the smartest either.

flandish@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 163d

the problem is that the reason the folks on US soil have such.. douche hubris is because we’ve never got our teeth kicked in because there are a couple of oceans guarding us.

it is only temporary “unrealistic” a danger, Iran will figure it out and another 9/11 will happen and.. queue up the enrollment and bootlicking country songs for 20 years.

All the while … profit, massive profit, is had.

Man_kind@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 162d (5 replies)

Of course he is. The people at risk aren't trump, or anyone that risks anything for trump or his family.

If Trump could press a button that would kill 10 million people, maim another 5 million, and make 50 million people go from middle class to abject poverty, in order to give him 10 billion $ and more power, he'd press that button without hesitation.

Total no brainer for him. And Americans are just letting get away with destroying democracy and destroying their freedom, and way of life, so HE can have more.

They seem upset, complain on social media, but do nothing. Not even boycotting. They just sit in their echo chambers. They dont organize. They don't protest on congress' front lawn, they hardly boycott, even after seeing it work for Kimmel.

The citizens of america are failing the world.

Poojabber@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 162d (4 replies)

I hear what you are saying my friend... I(US citizen) am not happy with what is going on, but what can I really do to make a change? I vote, and other than that, I work 50-60 hours a week to try and support my family and try to teach them to be good and do the right things. I dont have the time or resources to go protest in Washington.... Im working my ass off to suport my family. The system here sucks and was built by others before my time. Do you want me to grab my guns and go battle ICE/the government single handedly and leave my kids to fend for themselves? Im just trying to get by. I havent been to a doctor in decades because I cant afford it... I send my kids instead, because that is more important to me. So you can sit on the sideline and say I am doing nothing, but Im voting and hoping for the best, but I cant battle the government corruption single handedly while I am trying to keep my kids alive and healthy. Tell me what to do. PLEASE!!!!

sen@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 162d

There are so many of you with this exact same sentiment on every comment related to this topic. Imagine what you could do if you were organised.

I don't think any of us have the answer for you, aside from casually pointing out that 2A is meant for more than the classroom, and if none of you do anything you'll be raising your kids in a fascist theocracy within the decade.

They're actively fighting to get voter registry information. Why do you think that is?

polysexualstick@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 162d

Being politically active is so much more than just voting. So many options to do more. You can write to your representatives or call them. You can donate to NGOs fighting for what you believe in. You can be vocal in your opinion on the internet or towards colleagues, friends and family. You can take part in demonstrations or even organise. And a lot of other options.

The mentality of "I vote, what more can I do" is so defeatist and a huge part of the reason why the political right wing can do what they do.

Man_kind@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 161d

You need to get together with like minded people. In real life. Find people that think like you do, and get together, and plan together. Create funding. Start meetings. Go to political get together when you can, or organize funding and donate to that. Go to freedom fighting political parties and ask to help or volunteer, or whatever to get together in real life. Sacrifice for it. Be tired for it. Miss your leisure for it. Boycott maga friendly companies. Companies want money. If trump is in power they can pay trump to let them break the law and have more money. That includes removing your rights. So, fascism is profitable for them, at your expense. No taxes, no worker rights. If you continue using their products or platforms or whatever, then destroying your freedom is most profitable to them. You need to sacrifice, and go on a fast of your favourite things to hurt their bottom line. You need to make sure what's most profitable is freedom. Because if they attack it, nobody buys there. Or watches their shows, ir uses their social media.

You as an individual, you need to do that, even if you're alone. And you need to tell everyone else to do the same. Only use and shop at companies dont threaten your freedom or democracy. Even if it tanks your economy. You have to be cold hearted and vicious with it. And choose sacrifice for freedom. You alone won't make a dent. But you cant think loke that, and you cant tolerate that others do. You need to talk the talk, and walk the walk. And you need to protest in front of congress. Create funding, organize, and youll have funding to be able to go without work, or make billboards, or get buses so people can protest in Washington from all around.

Build it, and hurry up. You aren't powerless. But even if you're alone, act as though everyone will do as do. Encourage it, and make the sacrifice yourself.

They are brainwashing people with meta and twitter and tiktok. The big american companies are working to take your freedom. Don't give them money. If their stock is projected to fall, it loses so much value.

If you give giving them your money, you're fucked.

stylusmobilus@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 161d

No one rational expects you or any other US citizen to grab guns.

We get that you personally, voted.

Unfortunately though, you and other US citizens like you are going to have to risk those jobs and that healthcare and go into a sustained national shutdown. Here is what is expected; the US citizens start doing something to fix this problem.

It’s unfortunate because those you need to lead such things and give direction, like Democrat reps, popular personalities, past presidents, none want to step up to the plate and lead it. The truth is, the administration really does reflect the nation in so many ways. A third care, a third don’t and most of that third along with the third that support are lazy, selfish people.

But no, I for one certainly don’t expect you to go out and battle ICE et al with your firearms. That’s the hardest, most awful way. The easiest was voting, the next now is a peaceful shutdown to get the houses to act. Yes it’ll be hard and yes, it’s easy for us not having to do it to say it but you’ve seen already how some nations like the French react to it, we’d be doing the same.

You’re the only ones can do it too, none of us can help here because he was elected and we couldn’t anyway. If I lived there, in your shoes, I’d start with writing your nearest Dem reps and any influential people you can to start leading it. That’s something.

The Reichstag fire (German: Reichstagsbrand, pronounced [ˈʁaɪçstaːksˌbʁant] ⓘ) was an arson attack on the Reichstag building, home of the German parliament in Berlin, on Monday, 27 February 1933, precisely four weeks after Adolf Hitler was sworn in as Chancellor of Germany. Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch council communist, was said to be the culprit; the Nazis attributed the fire to a group of Communist agitators, used it as a pretext to claim that Communists were plotting against the German government, and induced President Paul von Hindenburg to issue the Reichstag Fire Decree suspending civil liberties and pursue a "ruthless confrontation" with the Communists.[1] This made the fire pivotal in the establishment of Nazi rule in Germany.

Godric@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 162d

I was told Dems were just BLUMAGA, yet here we are.

daannii@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 163d (25 replies)

There is a lot of talk on foreign news sites that way more U.S soldiers have been killed. All U.S bases in Iran were bombed. Yet only 6 U.S people killed?

That's not how that works.

Mexico and India news says reports were around 500-600 U.S troops.

Gop hiding it so it's not so obvious to us how much they fucked up so that Congress won't be as pressured to stop them. If the American people knew it was 500 casualties already from poor strategy, there would be more outrage.

Considering that the current administration lies about literally everything, I'll trust foreign news more.

duno 500 seams high.

Iranian missiles/drones are not very precise, and they take a while to get there, usualy enough warning time to run from a exposted position to the next bunker.

US bases are huge, just cuz something impacts somewhere on it dosent mean a human is nearby.

I kinda doubt they could even hide 500 dead, even if they tryed.

daannii@lemmy.world · -6 pts · 163d (16 replies)

It's definitely more than 6.

I bet its a few hundred.

einfach_orangensaft@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 163d (5 replies)

few hundred...no just no.

For every kia u have multipe wounded, and i dont see spikes in wounded transports to military hospitals in europe (usual extraction route for usa wounded in the middle east). If there where 500 dead it would mean 2k wounded and thay would mean constant helicopter medivac flights from airports to hospitals in europe...feel free to check historical data of flight radar (public info) on that.

Let me know if u come up with some facts that actually have data speaking for em.

Is there anywhere else US soldiers could be treated more quietly, e.g. navy hospitals, nearby Arab States or Israel?

einfach_orangensaft@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 163d (1 reply)

Arab hospitals are considered a security risk and israel probably dosent has the capacity that nato nations can provide, the extraction route was developed during the gulf wars and the afghan war and i would wonder if they would suddenly change that

GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 163d

They’ve had no problem suddenly changing everything else for no good reason.

daannii@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 163d

Yeah. Israel.

AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 162d

Kegbreath didn't plan anything so they probably aren't even prepared for that scale of transport

treesapx@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 163d (5 replies)

The families would be coming out of the woodwork.

GreenBeard@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 163d (3 replies)

If they had been told.

ohulancutash@feddit.uk · 5 pts · 163d (2 replies)

Theres a limit to how many times “can’t come to the phone right now” will work.

GreenBeard@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 163d

It's only been a week. Don't get me wrong, time's going to run out when the can keep it quiet, but we're not there yet.

IratePirate@feddit.org · 2 pts · 163d

Maybe that's what the recent Facebook patent that allows them to have AI take over a dead person's persona is all about?

We really are living in a Black Mirror episode...

daannii@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 163d

It's been a few days. It's not always easy to reach service members.

How would they know?

It will take another week or two before we start learning the real numbers.

HermitBee@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 162d (3 replies)

I bet its a few hundred.

I'd happily take that bet, but I'd like to know what source you'd trust for the final figure.

daannii@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 162d (2 replies)

Foreign news is saying Iran has stated they bombed all U.S bases. They report 500 casualties. Would they exaggerate ?

Probably.

Would they turn 6 into 500. Not likely.

Would department of defence lie to conceal how badly they fucked up ? 100%

Even if both are lying, the middle is still a few hundred.

I still don't understand why any of you would trust what the trump or hegseth says.

But I can tell you that soldiers are not allowed to leak information all the time about on going operations.

We don't hear details about most things like this until years later.

And I do believe they can hide death counts easily in the short term.

I trust foreign news over U.S news. And you should too.

HermitBee@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 162d (1 reply)

I trust foreign news over U.S news. And you should too.

I've never watched US news. What's your "foreign news" source?

daannii@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 162d

Well I read BBC and watch France news on YouTube. I gave such a link in my first comment. I also watch other foreign news in English. India also has such a news channel on YouTube.

The link below is the india one.

And here is the French one.

Naaah. That’s fanciful tabloidism.

Bases are large. They have hardened bunkers. Iranian missiles and drones are crude. Anyone non-essential would have been evacuated before this all started.

Hundreds - even dozens would be impossible to keep quiet.

AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 162d

Iranian missiles are also super- and hypersonic

daannii@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 163d (4 replies)

Israel hid a lot of atrocities for decades.

The u.s government basically controls all major news because a single family now owns it all.

You all realize they do lie about everything. ?

Why would you trust ,"6". ?

ohulancutash@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 163d (3 replies)

Because these hundreds of dead soldiers were hatched in a military facility and never had family, friends, neighbours or bank managers. Or you’re saying thousands of people will just not notice?

daannii@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 163d (2 replies)

I'm saying it's going to take more than 3 days for people's families to figure it out

ohulancutash@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 163d (1 reply)

And then what.

Oopsie, heres some corpses we forgot to tell you about?

daannii@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 162d

It will be a bigger deal than you might think. It could help pressure Congress to stop the war.

Maybe not. But maybe.
