Actually it was 64, and he won one of them but it didn’t change any results.

The man who has already attempted a coup
The man who has proven again and again that he will do just about anything to ensure he doesn't lose the majority he needs to not get impeached
The man who is a known compulsive cheater
The man who tried to call people to "find more votes" for him
The man who blatantly used jerrymandering to secure enough seats to maintain his majority
The man who knows damn well is in the gutters in the polls and who knows will never win the next election if it is fair.
You are asking if he is preparing a coup?
The outcome of the movie Titanic was less predictable than that.

Supposedly.
I'm not entirely convinced they did last time. The elections are highly compromised.

Isn't there a 22nd amendment to the constitution, which says a president can be elected for a maximum of two terms?
But why should that amendmend specifically or the constitution at all be respected by a criminal?
DaddleDew@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 29d
The problem is that Trump has demonstrated many times already that he doesn't let things like the Constitution stop him from doing what he wants
zergtoshi@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 29d
That's what the second paragraph of my comment was about.
I don't want to normalize his behaviour by not even telling what he's about to violate, violates or has violated.
Dentzy@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 29d
They have already presented the idea that the limit is for "two consecutive terms" so it wouldn't apply to him; it is bullshit -of course-, but that's the excuse they will feed their base and the MAGAs will parrot it gladly. So, yes there is an amendment against it, but no, it won't stop them from pushing a third term (or simply extend his current one by preventing elections altogether).

Trump's logic falls flat on its face, and even the most dimwitted magat can understand this:
If the US elections are fraudulent, then he won the presidency twice fraudulently.
Also, you'll notice he's not investigating the 2016 or the 2024 elections.
HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca · 50 pts · 29d
Not quite. They think all elections are rigged against them. When they win, they were popular and strong enough to win despite the rigging. When they lose, the enemy was evil enough to pull it off.
Can't lose logic.
jaybone@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 29d
He’ll claim he lost the 2016 election, so the term was invalid and therefore should be able to serve another term.
I swear some conservative “think tank” has seriously considered that approach.
phutatorius@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 29d
Fascists don't to logic.
Routhinator@startrek.website · 54 pts · 29d
At this point, to anyone surprised at this idea, I can only roll my eyes.
He was quoted, recorded on video, saying "You'll never have to vote again."
He told you exactly this. Morons didn't really think about what that meant. Many of us saw it for exactly what it was.
FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 12 pts · 29d
And those of us who pointed it out were treated like conspiracy theorists even when the fascists released a public document announcing it

The coup, along with other nefarious plans, was prepared a looooonng time ago.
I'm not an expert but if I had to guess I'd say that the usa is about 60% through being completely overthrown. You've still got time to stop this insanity though.
The most hilarious, yet tragic, thing is you aren't being overthrown by a hostile foreign country. Or evil genius mastermind.
You are being taken over by an old dementia riddled pathological liar and narcissist, that paints itself orange who also raped/rapes children and women.
If I went back to the 90s and wrote a book about a 'rich' hitler loving nepo baby who raped kids becoming president of the us using Russian money, and then taking it over from the inside I would be laughed at. Not one publisher would touch me.
Hell, even if I got rid of the fat cunts 'greatest' hits of child rape, etc, and just focused on the failed reality TV 'star' and all the casino bankruptcies with the blatant corruption becoming president then no publisher would have touched me. Yet here we are.
FrankFrankson@lemmy.world · 30 pts · 29d
Trump has the backing of multiple countries that want him to fuck the US up. He also has the backing of the overwhelming majority of billionaires.
This isn't a coup of a reality tv moron....the reality tv moron is being used as a tool by the actual engineers of the coup. Trump isn't smart enough or functional enough to pull off a coup or even conceive of how to do one with outside help. Trump is a functionally illiterate moron of a puppet being propped up by a multi-billion dollar propaganda machine.
historicaldocuments@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 29d
Kayfabe.
A person who's bad at chess plays the game thinking that the opponent will step into traps that have been laid out for them. They don't think about the opponent being smarter, more experienced, having a will of their own, or looking out for themselves. That person would be great in a wrasslin' match, because now it's time for the opponent to run into a clothesline or whatever.
Back in the real world actions have reactions: “no nation has friends only interests.” Make NATO uncertain that the US will show up if needed, and threaten to pull support for weapons? That looks great in the wrasslin' match. Big strong man yelling at a TV camera impresses people who tuned into watch wanting to be impressed. In the real world it will take generations for the US to build back the trust it had if it can. Anyone wanting to make moves on a global scale will do so before that situation reaches a steady state.
The only thing that could make it worse in the real world for the US is if it started an unnecessary war for no reason and expended a huge amount of hard to replace munitions in a very short time while simultaneously giving an adversary a lot of looks at what modern US equipment looks like. It plays great inside the wrasslin' match, though.

The end boss won't be Trump. I dont mean to minimize the damage he's done, but in the end he's a useful idiot. The work horse that is plowing through systems of protections to plant the seeds of whatever comes after. The bull in the china shop, or even just a developer as he's always been. He's the middle man in the story that is America's shift and collapse/reformation.
He says and does things to enrich himself and his family but he wont be the power behind the throne.
I cant say that I dont hate him, but he's just one piece of the machine at work here. He doesn't have the skills or the strength to be a true dictator. He's the tip of the spear that his supporters are using to kill America.
I would be more worried about who will take over when he's gone, or who's working behind the scenes. It's not one person yet, or at least, history hasn't revealed who that one person is.
What he is, is a demonstration. Proof that these things can be done with minimal pushback. And a lightening rod for our ire.
But it will get worse, and it wont be a Trump dynasty.

The USA is a republic and historically republics do fail from internal factors more than external.
vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 29d
Unless it's Venice. But those fuckers were weird and survived for a thousand years, also Carthage was destroyed by Rome so add them to the list.
MrNesser@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 29d
Carthage had plenty of internal issues before Rome turned up. Hannibal as actively disliked, they used mercenaries in their wars.
To be honest Carthage sounds more like modern USA the more I read about them.
Venice was an outlier and probably would have gone the same way if it weren't for Napoleon.
vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 29d
Just noting that Carthage and Venice were destroyed by outside forces. Sure Carthage would most likely have collapsed or otherwise become a dictatorship a la Rome but who knows maybe they wouldve reformed. As for Venice that's basically impossible to know, they reformed their government so many times in their history so as to keep power hungry assholes from getting power that who knows what wouldve happened had they survived into the 19th or even 20th century.
Though regardless I suspect the US may not have even 10 years left in it, hell it may not even have a year left in it if shit hits the fan badly enough.
MrNesser@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 29d
There won't be a military outside force for America. That will come from economic pressure, it will be a fast moving financial change that the market won't be able to forecast or adapt to.
vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 29d

What's funny is apathy is just going to let it happen. Everyone is afraid if losing their healthcare. Who would have thought all it took to cower people is healthcare.
Lupus108@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 29d
Tragically that was part of the idea of some of those concepts, connecting social security with social control.
For example Alfred Krupp pioneered a lot of those concepts in his business, next to company stores, company apartments, company hospitals and schools he also started having some sort of insurance for his workers, in case of sickness or disability you were secured by the company insurances.
Krupp didn't do this out of the goodness of his heart, in part those programs secured productivity and helped attracting and keeping qualified workers. On the other hand those things were also leverage that could be used against the workers, especially against strikers, unionist, political agitators or social Democrats. Of course workers profited from those programs, but when you live in a company apartment, shop in company stores, go to company hospitals and schools, the company holds your pension and your health insurance all of that can be taken away when you go against Krupp, you'd loose everything.
Like I said up top, it was always a mix of social security and social control.

xenomor@lemmy.world · 37 pts · 29d
At some point, local communities need to start addressing the overreach of this federal government. These are not national elections, they are state elections and the feds have no authority or role in them. trump’s thugs should be ridiculed, doxed, physically confronted, and driven out by local and state authorities. That means cops. That means governors deploying the national guard.
Of course none of that will ever happen because cops generally don’t actually give a fuck about their community or laws, and governors and the national guard are mostly showboating pussies.
