Financial obesity is an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.
Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but trillionaires should be forced to transition into billionaires, and billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.
They set up a loyalty program like you would have for any grocery store, which helps with inventory control, and these people think it's an ID verification system.
I don't think that it's going to matter if they do. The very fact that they are offering groceries at a lower price will put pressure on grocery businesses to shave their margins, which are already quite large due to "inflation". (These places posted insane profits in the years since tte pandemic started, and even more after it was declared over).
They've been complaining about voter ID and being dunked on for making the argument that you need ID to buy groceries and now the Mamdani grocery stores require a membership ID

ID for voting is stupid. It is PROVEN that voter fraud is a non-issue, so voter ID laws pivot exist to disenfranchise voters.
On the other hand, as the mayor of a city, you can't run subsidized or non-profit grocery stores for the whole state plus new jersey. It's just not sustainable, especially not during the delicate early phases where any hiccup will be blown out of proportions by the media.

I believe access to food should be a right and will continue to support policies that lead to that goal. However, I also recognize that we are not there yet. Voting does have that level of protection, and I will fight like hell to defend it because voting supports the pathway for more rights like access to food.

The question has always been: if I don't have an ID, can I still vote? IDs make it much easier to prove eligibility to vote, but is there a backup plan, a safety valve, for people who don't have an ID on election day?
If you want to buy alcohol, there are legal ways to acquire alcohol without an ID, if you are actually of legal drinking age.
If you want to fly on an airplane, there are ways to get past TSA and get on an airplane without an ID. TSA only recently started charging a fee for this, but there's always been a safety valve for people who want to fly but don't have an ID on them. Otherwise, what would someone have to do if they were on vacation, lost their wallet, and wanted to come home?
Oh, and the actual proposal for the shopper card at the NYC grocery store won't actually require proof of identity or proof of residency. So if the proposed voter ID laws were going to be equally loose, I don't think there would be any opposition to a system by which a person who doesn't have an ID could get one that day, at the polling site, in order to vote that day.

I don't think that it's going to matter if they do. The very fact that they are offering groceries at a lower price will put pressure on grocery businesses to shave their margins, which are already quite large due to "inflation". (These places posted insane profits in the years since tte pandemic started, and even more after it was declared over).

For everyone one of him there are probably thousands of others waiting to replace him, sure. But at least it's one less. By the way I would much rather prefer he actually goes to prison for murdering 600K+ people through USAID cuts, plus a million other blatantly illegal things he's done. Pretty disingenuous post to be honest. Regardless of what one thinks of the wind bag. His entire take is: NYC ID for voting? Bad, horrible, not gonna happen. NYC ID for buying discounted groceries? That's logical, common sense, we must take measures to ensure only valid residents can partake.
Even the most staunch Musk hater has to be able to see what a precarious position things are in. Logically, it is impossible to honestly defend one stance while rejecting another. I hate that this seems like I'm defending him, but it is more like I'm imploring people to be intellectually honest and consistent with themselves so others don't use them as tools in a bigger game.
People are already saying intellectually dishonest things like "voting is a right, the grocery store isn't." Then will have a post history that talks about food being a right, thereby confirming it is just more zero sum logic at play. Lots of words, but it all means nothing.
Plenty to strongly dislike about him. This ain't even on the menu.

ID for voting is stupid. It is PROVEN that voter fraud is a non-issue, so voter ID laws pivot exist to disenfranchise voters.
On the other hand, as the mayor of a city, you can't run subsidized or non-profit grocery stores for the whole state plus new jersey. It's just not sustainable, especially not during the delicate early phases where any hiccup will be blown out of proportions by the media.
One is a provable non-issue, the other is a significant practical risk.

I know you don't want to hear this, but I feel it should be pointed out for others. There is a distinct difference between "this thing SHOULD be a right" and "this thing IS a right."
I believe access to food should be a right and will continue to support policies that lead to that goal. However, I also recognize that we are not there yet. Voting does have that level of protection, and I will fight like hell to defend it because voting supports the pathway for more rights like access to food.

You're wrong, because you're either lying or have been lied to about the voter ID measures.
The question has always been: if I don't have an ID, can I still vote? IDs make it much easier to prove eligibility to vote, but is there a backup plan, a safety valve, for people who don't have an ID on election day?
If you want to buy alcohol, there are legal ways to acquire alcohol without an ID, if you are actually of legal drinking age.
If you want to fly on an airplane, there are ways to get past TSA and get on an airplane without an ID. TSA only recently started charging a fee for this, but there's always been a safety valve for people who want to fly but don't have an ID on them. Otherwise, what would someone have to do if they were on vacation, lost their wallet, and wanted to come home?
Oh, and the actual proposal for the shopper card at the NYC grocery store won't actually require proof of identity or proof of residency. So if the proposed voter ID laws were going to be equally loose, I don't think there would be any opposition to a system by which a person who doesn't have an ID could get one that day, at the polling site, in order to vote that day.
