I'm sick of hearing and even reading about GTA 6

I want it released already. Not because I'm going to be one of the many buying it or who pre-ordered it. But I'm sick of everything revolving around it. The Netflix Drama. Whether Rockstar uses Generative AI or not. The endless debates about the price tag. The activism people practice about digital vs physical that involves GTA 6.

Just tired of it all.

I've seen way way way more here on Lemmy bitching about GTA 6 than I have seen actually about it. The complaining about rockstar and GTA 6 is probably 80% of all the rockstar content I see here.

popcar2@piefed.ca · 30 pts · 4d (4 replies)

Seriously there has been maybe 3-4 posts about GTA 6 on this community in the last 2 months and every single one of them is full of people whining that they don't want to hear about it. It's so overblown.

GTA 6 is one of - if not the - highest budget games ever made. In one of the most popular and successful franchises of all time. It's the biggest release of the last few years whether they like it or not. Now... You're telling me we should stop talking about it in gaming communities because Lemmy users want to get back to talking about Linux and whatever 6/10 open source game is doing the rounds?

Sorry for the harshness but these posts and comments are so annoying. If you don't want to talk about AAA games then why are you in the gaming community?

P.S. I've seen posts talking about GTA or any major company (PlayStation, Nintendo, Bethesda, etc) just get huge amounts of downvotes on this platform because "we're tired of hearing about it". Why do people do this??? Just move on to the next post.

Cethin@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 3d (2 replies)

I wouldn't be as annoyed by hearing about it if Rockstar were an upstanding company. The union busting though means they should not be given any good PR at minimum, and ideally none.

I don't care if people want to discuss big games. We shouldn't accept positive discussion of games that are made by companies who treat their employees poorly. That should be a bare minimum rule people on this platform hold to. I don't care how excited you are for the game. You don't get to promote it.

ScoopMcPoops@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Well then you might as well ban almost every single gaming company from this community. Should this just be a CDPR, Blizzard, and Bethesda forum?

Cethin@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 3d

Most companies don't do union busting. Also, there are tons of indie and AA studios that treat employees far better.

scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 4 pts · 4d

I actually do agree with you. I am tired of people only complaining and brigading on anything GTA. Its so cringey to me, they could simply ignore the content, but instead have to make sure everyone knows they're on the Lemmy bandwagon. They're hipsters, plain and simple. They are too cool for the next star wars and biggest game of the decade, and they have to make sure eeeeveryone knows this. I am excited for the game and wish I could engage more with that side.

ampersandrew@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 4d (10 replies)

And posting genuine news about what is going to be one of the biggest gaming events of our lifetimes just gets downvoted here. Come on, people; it's clearly relevant. You don't have to upvote it, but then when people downvote anything they personally dislike, you end up with people who only get their gaming news here saying, "I've never heard of [one of the biggest games of the year]."

knowone@slrpnk.net · 8 pts · 4d (3 replies)

One of the most nonsensical things I see, the whole downvoting things that you don't like or don't agree with, even if it's still being put in a negative light or the person is just curious and asking about it. Happens all over reddit, especially in comments. Obviously if someone's stating rather than questioning and being bad faith or argumentative then I can understand it but it still happens all the time when they aren't

ampersandrew@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 4d

Seeing as Lemmy does nothing different than Reddit on a fundamental level, it's no surprise we see the same problems. We're just partially shielded from some of them by way of being a smaller community.

scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 4 pts · 4d

It's that it's not downvoting at this point. It's brigading. That's what I'm really annoyed at. It's not that people disagree, it's that everyone dogpiles on because GTA bad must hit downvote to send it to -1000. That ruins it for those who do want to enjoy it and makes it harder to see, and then we can't have an honest conversation about it until someone posts "hey it's kind of annoying that it's being brigaded"

Zarobi@aussie.zone · -2 pts · 4d

To most people it's basically just the "fuck you button"; my theory is it gives them a small burst of vindictive joy or something. I made an unpopular opinion post about this a while ago and the reception was basically peak toxicity. Even the mods piled on šŸ˜‚

I really feel like Lenny amplifies and concentrates it in a way that makes it more visible at times. And GTA6 is an example.

Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 3d (1 reply)

Lemmy does not consist of nerd spaces though.

It's a combination of reddit 'refugees' who went looking for something better(and got that for a few months) and the absolute trash that made reddit reddit and now comes to lemmy to keep behaving the same way.

And somehow all of them got banned for no reason at all. Or because the mod didn't like them, a classic that one.

paraphrand@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3d

Maybe nerd is too specific. I just mean ā€œonline peopleā€ I guess. But I personally have a focus on tech, games, video, etc. It’s something I’m increasingly self aware about, after spending the time since 2020 more online. Including in synchronous online spaces.

The spaces I’m talking about felt very different to me 15+ years ago. And the synchronous space I’m talking about felt very different 9 years ago.

Anyway, you’re not wrong. Your framing is still the people I mean. And now I see their type around me in more spaces. And yeah, it’s funny how it’s always a baselsss ban.

500 hours in project zomboid, 250 in Space Haven, Wildermyth, Kingdom Two Crowns.

Just got moonlighter, into the breach, tactical breach wizards.

Literally don't know who even is playing AAA games anymore honestly like what would you bother?

Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2d

I'm playing baldur's gate 3 and loving it. Wasn't that AAA? I'm planning to try the game of the year winners and nominees for the past few years - I haven't much gaming experience, but if a lot of ppl think they're good, that's a recommendation to me. I think they're not all AAA productions though. The only problem I see with AAA games is the expense - but I can wait for steam sales. But yeah, in thinking to play tactical breach wizards next, looks great.

HerbGrower@slrpnk.net · 1 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Need to play Space Haven, I got it along with a bunch of other games and I am still going through them. The Riftbreaker was discounted at the same time and so far is the one I have played most of my recent purchases, also got The Last Starship at the same time and have played a little of that. Riftbreaker also has DLC I haven't touched yet though. Sandustry was another fun one.

deft@lemmy.wtf · 2 pts · 2d

Wow I'll have to try all of those. Space Haven is really chill I definitely suggest playing with sandbox a little the game can feel almost suffocating the first time you play without it

AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3d (2 replies)

I'm not interested in it, because it was written for a console, Sony, I think, and will be ported to PC by AI (you know it's true) which means we'll get the usual port drama, only worse.

Anyway, it's like GTA5, the only difference is one digit, big deal. It's like those footy games…

Scrollone@feddit.it · 6 pts · 3d

I think they already have a PC version ready. It's probably the "real" version they developed first. But they're going to release the PC version later in order to get some sweet money from Sony and Microsoft.

Obi@sopuli.xyz · 4 pts · 2d

I mean I'm no GTA fanboy and probably won't get it (or if I do, much after it's released and goes on sale), but I don't think the comparison to FIFA is warranted, the last installment was released 13 years ago and the new one is sure to have a massive jump forward and will be a completely new game, whereas the footy games release every year without missing a beat with barely any updates besides the team rosters.

Welcome to the current state of all video games. It's more than a theme these days to rally people to hate on everything game related, it is it's own group of people who have found a market to complain or make up controversies to get views and subscribers. It's not just GTA its most games that end up having some crazy thing to complain about to stir the pot. I've been sick of this trend for years now. Anyone who actually loves games should always be celebrating a new release and not caring about stuff like is this game woke... thankfully I avoid most social media and don't watch those videos on youtube, but sometimes i hit it by mistake or see some article online hearing about what preasure the game is facing.

Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 4d

Am I just good at ignoring stuff? Where are people visiting that they're getting overwhelmed with GTA content?

THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 4d

Well since we're here, may as well BS a little.

GTA 5 was the first rated M game I bought myself with my own ID when I was 17. Now, I didn't get married and have kids like everyone else my age back then, but I did finish high school, start and finish college, am well into my career, and am about to become engaged.

I'm pretty excited for it, but I'm almost equally as excited for Gears E Day. Been waiting to see E Day played out in-game for almost 20 years now. Also Ocarina. It's going to be a busy end of the year and I'm here for it after a sort of dry year in general for my gaming up to this point.

KC_Royalz@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 4d (14 replies)

Most of the people bitching about it will still be buying it day 1 guaranteed. It's all bs people just like to complain and everything surrounding gta6 is just made up or petty.

It's going to be an amazing game. Wether people finish it or not is another question. I finally decided to complete red dead redemption 2. There was one achievement that popped up related to story that only 18% of players had gotten. So most people must have never finished the campaign

To this day red dead redemption is still one of the best looking games out there. GTA 6 is going to be better

Crozekiel@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 4d (5 replies)

[...] one achievement that popped up related to story that only 18% of players had gotten.

I see this a LOT for some reason. Like, there are lots of games I play where the achievements make me think a majority of people that bought and played the game only did so for 30 minutes at most. I've seen achievements like "completed the tutorial" (completed by 60% of other players) and been like, wtf, 40% of people never even finish the tutorial?? And it seems to trend down from there. I wonder what that means often. Maybe people are playing the games in such a way that the achievements don't register? Or there really are a ton of people buying games, playing them for 5 minutes, and then never touching them again??

betelplouf@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 4d (1 reply)

I've got friends who are buying games on sale, because maybe they will play it someday, and then they have 150 games they will playvsomeday (the list is growing bigger).

Those are friends with thousands of hours on CS or Hoi

Crozekiel@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 4d

Does it count if you buy it but never even launched it? That could be a significant portion of these things, but I kind of assumed the game had to have been launched at least once to start tracking achievements...

yermaw@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 4d

If its a game that appears on gamepass I probably feature in those stats. I dont have the time/attention span for a big epic game any more, so I'll play it for a little while and when its obvious the scope is outside of my capabilities I just drop it. RDR2 I dropped as soon as I got past the prologue and into the camp. It showed me the size of the map, and then all the little fetch quests you'd need to reshoe your horse, and you need to keep your camp stocked with food, and I just said nope.

I'll also drop games if they don't feel "unique" enough. This is pretty subjective and open to hypocrisy on my part. I gave up on Hogwarts Legacy after the first fight. I was excited for Bully or Skool Daze in a magical world, but it was just assassin's creed with magic wands.

slimerancher@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 4d

Sly Cooper (the first one, I believe) has a trophy pop-in as soon as you get control of the character, after a short cut scene.

That trophy isn't 100% either.

scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 1 pts · 4d (7 replies)

Fully agree. It's the zeitgeist right now, it's the biggest gaming moment in a long time, and while the hate of crunch and union busting is real, rockstar has a solid track record of near perfect games. Few of them, but near if not actually perfect. Guaranteed most people here complaining will pick it up after a while and justify it to themselves.

KC_Royalz@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 4d (6 replies)

If it exists. I don't know why rockstar wouldn't release the next gen update for rdr2 now. It would give us 3 months to explore that world again. Because once gta6 hits nobody will be playing that and once online hits RDR2 will be forgotten about. Granted I never got into gta5 online but think I will this time

scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 1 pts · 3d (5 replies)

I'll be honest, does rdr2 need a next gen update? Or is this a specific release for ps5 or something?

Personally I don't play GTA 5 online, but I like how Alana Pearce put it. I don't like it, not my thing, but it's just a money printer that lets rockstar make whatever they want to with near unlimited budgets. So thanks to those who buy shark cards and micro transactions so we can have masterpieces like GTA and rdr

You think people will stop talking about GTA 6 when it's released?

Actual playable gameplay will fuel games media for at least 7 months straight as people discover singular easter eggs and make a whole 12 minute video to talk about someone else finding the easter egg.

Unless the game is genuinely unplayable. Then it will only be like 4 months of people talking about the end of Rockstar and what they might have to do to come back.
