While I do see AI usage as a danger, I don't see an AI gaining super intelligence within 3 years and killing everyone.
The pollution from the data centers is the bigger threat as is the cognitive decline of the users.

The problem isn't AI gaining intelligence, it's allowing AI to have agency and then it gets an potentially dangerous prompt that leads it to hack into, just for the sake of being funny, a bunch of places to delete the entire stock market. As funny as it would be it would lead to a complete economic collapse. I'd actually feel safer if it did have actual intelligence. We're talking about a technology where if you have broken unit tests (software term meaning a certain set of tests the code has to pass to be considered functional) and you tell AI to "fix the unit tests" there's a non-zero chance of it just deleting the tests and saying it's fixed.
AI is dangerous not in the way movies present it where it gains sentience and wipes us out. It's dangerous in the opposite way where it doesn't have intelligence and wipes us out because it doesn't understand it's doing something that's going to kill us.

Those are both valid threats however we've also seen LLM agents so some really dangerous stuff with hacking already. They can do a lot of damage to the world just by messing with software. If they attacked the right places the global economy could literally collapse. We're thoroughly dependent on software to keep nearly everything running these days.

AI Usage should almost be like that teacher that was really good at school. Engaging you to make you better, not replacing you or brainrotting to hell.
I do think the two professions that are likely about to die however are customer service (not all, just 90% of call centre workers) and non-tool assisted programmers.
AI coding is going to be the future but instead of just big corporations doing it people should be using it for building out tools they need. AI in it's current state is just a smart printer and I'm sure there are a lot of business ideas we haven't even come up with yet that will make humans and AI complementary, not one to replace another.
I would rather not have AI at all, but pandora's box is already open and if we don't at least try and integrate it into our workflows we will be left behind.

That's such a weak attack. The water and resources are being depleted by the second and irreparably because of capitalism and infinite exponential growth, the real problem is that it is a means to influence and control billions of people, take away their jobs, and decide how wars are waged and how our societies are run, and it's all up to some dumb cunt with an engineering degree who never got laid or read a book that wasn't all equations in their life.
That's not democracy, that's feudalism. That's a private citizen determining the fate of humanity because they were good at making money.

Hey listen I'm with you all the way. I just think the problem goes deeper than AI. They're abusing the power of money to get away with anything- we shout "hey stop that you could get us all killed!" and they're like "Sure but think of the money I'll make!" and go ahead with it because they kick back to the rulers who let them.

Yeah, That is a large part of it. The problem is that the type of people willing to do this should not be allowed in a position of power. They and other like them are the reason why mental health has been systemically dismantled in the US. After all when you know there is something wrong with you the last thing you want is a system that can spot you and prevent you from being a horrible person.

OpenAI/Anthropic want regulation to make sure they dominate the market and prevent any competition. Nvidia wants no regulation so they can sell as many GPUs as possible and keep driving the prices up. That's pretty much all there is to this supposed debate about the dangers of AI.

“As fast as we can” isn’t as fast as it was a year or two ago. Looking at LLM benchmark scores over time, it appears exponential gains stopped as of mid-2025 and now it’s just small, incremental gains. OpenAI and Anthropic are aware of this, which is why they want regulations to kneecap competition, but it seems Jensen didn’t get the memo.
Or maybe he did, and that’s why he bought Huggingface. Now that the frontier is crawling along, open models are rapidly catching up and he doesn’t care whether people are using open or closed models, so long as they’re running on Nvidia hardware.

I feel like both positions are wrong (and obvious attempts to either make this product more impressive than it currently is or avoid meaningful regulations). There is not currently evidence that LLMs pose such an existential threat to humanity, but that's not to say there won't be.
A much bigger threat as it stands is these companies having such terribly safety processes that their technology keeps acting in unexpected ways. These are not companies that should have a financial stake in energy infrastructure, not to mention the further consolidation of power by these douchebag billionaires.

I agree with him, im not saying everything is gonna be peachy keen but if we start a third world war, it'll just be our fault. We already had two world wars last century without any help from ai. Ultimately, the problem with ai is the flawed nature of human beings, just like every technology that came before it and every technology that will come after.
