What do you get recognised for on Lemmy?

We're a small tight knit community. We see the same names everywhere. I'm sure many of you have been recognised by strangers before.

What is your claim to Lemmy fame.

Lady butterfly is for example responsible for keeping Lemmy wholesome.

Blaze is posting meta stuff quite often.

The Picard Manoeuvre is the first Lemmy celeb for his accomplishments in memes.

Many names I can mention.

Perspectivist@feddit.uk · 15 pts · 292d (3 replies)

I make a new account every thousand comments or so specifically because I don’t want internet fame. But if I didn’t, I’d probably be recognized as that guy who says what he thinks even when he knows it won’t be popular. Then again, I filter content so aggressively to avoid threads where I’d be tempted to share those unpopular opinions that maybe I wouldn’t get recognized that much after all.

MelonYellow@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 291d (1 reply)

I tend to keep a lot of opinions to myself and especially avoid charged threads too. But I just want to say you’re recognized and your opinions are appreciated. You debate thoughtfully and respectfully. We need more of yous on here.

Perspectivist@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 291d

Thanks, I appreciate it!

sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 292d

This is what I used to do on reddit but it pissed off the control freak mods so I'm afraid to do it here. But I should have limited my engagement like you're doing instead of just showing up to places to keep doing "le epic hot takes" and be a stupid little main character

moondoggie@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 292d (9 replies)

I mostly lurk, just like how I’m primarily scrolling through this thread to see if the 21-23 year old virgin who’s looking for a 30 year old girlfriend is in here.

SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 292d (7 replies)

Scuse me?!?!?

moondoggie@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 291d (6 replies)

So there’s this one user who had posted about a story idea they had wanting to know how old the protagonist is. Someone replied that looking at his post history, they would guess 21-23. So I clicked the dude’s name and man, what a crazy ride. Like 80% of his posts were either about what people thought about someone in their 30s dating someone who was 21-23 (and stated in one that of course if the older person were in their 40s-50s dating a 21-23 they should be killed) or how it was impossible for a 21-23 year old to ever have sex because women didn’t want someone with no experience. I always forget his name and his posts have branched out more, but I’ll be reading something that feels slightly unhinged and then someone in the comments will make a 21-23 year old reference and I realize who I’m reading. It’s like Where’s Waldo, the text-based version.

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 291d (4 replies)

Their name is Grimreaper and their latest post is complaining that AI didn't give them the answer they were looking for in response to their wild fantasy about Superman's son dating someone ten years older and becoming a superhero to avenge them

Anyway, I recognise a lot of names on these threads. In a way, it's very wholesome and warm but also a stark reminder of how small lemmy still is. Not that it's a bad thing, but sometimes there's not much, if at all, discussion for more niche stuff

SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 292d (2 replies)

Yeah niche comms are still tough. Really need to keep posting and finding the right people. And even if you do theres like 5 right people who are different levels of interested.

But I still value the wholesomeness higher. I would rather keep the current vibe of Lemmy over a 100x growth

Fondots@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 292d

I don't think I get recognized, but I've had a handful of people say that they like the way I write, so maybe I have a group of dedicated followers somewhere.

Funnily enough, I just earlier messaged some random lemming that I had tagged for a while as "this guy seems cool" to let him know that. I figure everyone likes to get a little compliment like that from a stranger now and then. Just some random dude whose username kind of stood out to me and I noticed every time it popped up he seemed like a nice guy. So some of you are probably out there like him being recognized for just being a decent person.

Everything online is recorded. You can literally scroll through someone's profile and know everything they've said and done, the red and blue of upvotes also shows what you thought of em on previous interactions.

You dont just have evidence of previous encounters but also other history.

I love to troll a tankie but I'm serious but probably more harsh with anarchists, because it sounds very very good, but it also seems like it doesn't work, so wanna sell me heaven you gotta have some solid plans, again IMO. Still curious though.

SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 291d (5 replies)

I know everyone hates this answer. But if you think anarchists haven't made a good case it means you haven't listened.

David Graeber, Naom Chomsky, Saul Newman, Kropotkin, Bakunin, Goldman, Colin Ward. Theres serious academic and theoretical ideas in their vast works that are picked from real world communities.

It's honestly shocking that you think there isn't enough anarchist theory when every other community on Lemmy links to the anarchist library everyday.

Not only do they have solid plans they have proof of concept for many cases.

Valmond@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 291d (4 replies)

Ya, but empiric evidence is important, so where is it outside small groups? There are books about how communism, nazism, democracy, christianity (the list goes on...) is so great, but history seems to have some clear answers when they are actually tried out.

SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 291d (3 replies)

And is there one thing on the planet that has turned out well?? Has capitalism lol.

Noone is calling for a utopia but a better way of building society.

I'm really not one who tries to convert people honestly, I'm not a debate bro or anything. You have a sea of knowledge of people much smarter than me in front of you, you are free to make up your own mind.

Valmond@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 291d (2 replies)

At least you're honest, and yeah I'm one of those people needing to question/answer things.

But saying "thing A is bad, that means B is okay" is just a fallacy. Also, "building a better society?" Yeah I'm all for it obviously, but those anarchists I have discussed with seems to want to replace our society, which seems more than risky. We're here today by bettering things during millennia, with ups and downs. Are there still things to fix and make better and even scrap outright? Totally. Is there another system that will work better? Maybe but you have to argue why. IMO.

As you don't like q/a I'll leave it here (except if you have any questions or anything of course).

Cheers

SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 291d

That is quite a misguided opinion. But a rather common one. 'Capitalist realism' is where I recommend you start. We have NOT bettered things during the millennium by adding things to a system, capitalism is very young. You desperately need to read some history before holding opinions that strong. Capitalism revolutionary displaced a system before it. Communist and socialist states have done so too.

Thing a is bad, b is good is ridiculous. Thing b is better because of its intrinsic qualities and not as an offspring of the other. Anarchism is not good because of capitalism but its own moral values. And its why anarchists are consistently in fights with tankies etc. Because we dont define ourselves by a contrast to capitalism. Even though a fight against private property is a primary concern.

So no one is making that claim but you, you are refuting an idea you yourself have pulled out of thin air.

Again I don't care about who you've discussed anything with. If you want real theory, its readily available. The anarchist library is a brilliant hub of knowledge, because anarchists dont hide knowledge lol.

You consistently seem to want someone to come sit you down and explain to you why you should pretty please like anarchism while treating it like childish folly. When you can freely educate yourself with free resources.

And once again there ARE good arguments, thats what the theory is.

My real identity isnt attached to my online self, especially on lemmy.

Im not left, socialist, communist, anarchist or anything like that, a bit liberal though, socialist too a wee bit. Im very much not like an average lemmy visitor. My views on politics, religion and intelligence are in contrast to an average federated lemmy user.

I wouldn't ever want to be doxxed here because leftist aren't just violent, but they are actively violent, and i would expect they would try to follow through with threats more than an average group.

No, it feels like the attitude of some on the left is that any self identifying Republicans cause harm and deserve harm and that it is a righteous act to cause that harm...

This can't be only me that feels this kinda way? I mean, for one recent example is all the destruction and vandalism of Tesla vehicles because Elon worked with Trump basically... these people are mentally ill to vandalis someone's personal vehicle thinking they really "stuck it to the man". An example, someone randomly keyed my brothers tesla... seriously, some of these people are driven by hate.

You're right on money. Nearly all the violent, threatening, extremist shit talk is only that, talk. But then there is the 2% youre talking about, that comes after all the violent rhetoric. Ive heard leftist threat/wish violence against certain groups/individuals who i could be classified as. Im sure the threats and potential threats keep the cops very busy.
